Agreed but I’ve only spotted his bald pate once. They keep showing the young percussionist with the sticky up hair. It left me confused.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 10:03 pmHe’s got Ray Cooper on percussion too - he’s brilliant. The pianist isn’t bad either.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I’ve seen him live numerous times, the first of them back in the 1970s on the back of the Honky Chateau album.
He’s got better and better each time although I did wonder whether Glastonbury was right for him. Too true it is, just wish I was there to have witnessed this performance.

I know he doesn’t go for the highest of notes any more but I think his voice has been awesome tonight. That’s from me who thought he was past it 5 years ago.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Stunning performance from Elton - really jaw droppingly powerful, and at 76. What a privilege it must be to be there to witness this live.
I say I will try for Glastonbury every year then regret it when I forget to. I simply must for 2024 (appreciate that ‘trying’ is only half of the battle!).

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Really enjoyed tonight's performance, the only thing it's lacked for me was Dua Lipa and having to do the song without her. I think his vocal has been very good too which has surprised me.
Re: Glastonbury 2023
The infamous ‘I’m still standing’ performance during COVID got me thinking Elton was going to put a huge dent in his legacy tonight…he’s been absolutely brilliant and his voice is holding up really well.
Ah absolute master of his craft…must be a total privilege to see this live.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
The rolling out of the ‘old timers’ isn’t really my cup of tea. Often, they’re a shadow of their former selves. Whilst Elton John obviously isn’t what he was, that was one of the better performances that I’ve seen from artists of yesteryear.
Not my type of music but what a catalogue of songs he has.

What a catalogue of hits. And what a performer even at 76. One of the best Glastonbury headline acts.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Find it hard to believe you can post that after seeing that crowd.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an audience as completely enthralled & captivated quite like that.
Even sat at home I felt like I was there (almost)
I don’t think you could have a better set

BBC2 showing Queens of the Stone Age playing an intimate gig on the Other Stage. Never seen it that empty.

I could just watch Ray Cooper ( percussionist) all night.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Do you know when QUEEN stole the show at Live Aid and were streets ahead of any other act…Elton did that tonight by knocking spots off each and every act that went before him this Glastonbury Festival weekend. He was absolutely incredible.

Freddie was a bit special that day - frightening to think it’s 38 years ago.

I love this sort of comment - Queen stole the show ? Only if you happen to like Queen . They would be the last act I remember from Live Aid .

Surely you realise how blinkered that comment is? According to the public and, more importantly, the other acts they were clearly the outstanding performers on the day.thehistorylecturer61 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 8:19 amI love this sort of comment - Queen stole the show ? If your not a Queen fan that is your right but don’t deny them their day.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Loved Elton's performance, but you cannot measure it at all against THAT Queen performance.
I'll never forget watching Stevie Wonder at Hyde Park about 10 years ago. Now that was a performance for a "past it" entertainer.

I’m not denying them anything .. I don’t think they or the wider world would be too concerned at my critique Just makes me smile - for example several acts this weekend looked like a sad parody of their former selves but the BBC will tell you they were great.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 8:24 amSurely you realise how blinkered that comment is? Re: Glastonbury 2023
I watched QOTSA last night, so I can't comment on Elton John's performance. Most of the bands I'm into haven't been on the Pyramid Stage, but that doesn't matter one jot. Thing is, treating Glastonbury, like some giant music contest for middle-age men to score and argue about, is rather sad.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
In my younger years, i used to regularly attend Glastonbury and Reading festivals (circa late 2000s) and the smaller stages were where the best performances i saw. For example one of the best was Temper Trap (what even happened to them after their first album?!) and it was a tent of about 50 people. Alot of similar performances and experiences to that. I couldn't deal with camping nowadays given the unpredictable weather.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
For me, the extended version of 'Rocket Man' was the highlight of the gig at Ewood in 2017 and he absolutely nailed it again last night.
