Glastonbury 2023

Post by karatekid » Sun Jun 18, 2023 10:57 pm

Looking forward to

Blondie
Cat Stevens
Guns and Roses
Sparks
Manic street Preachers

Who is the band you wish had played Glastonbury in recent times but hasn't?

Pink Floyd
They would have been a great headliner on Sunday evening.

Been to the last 3 and 4 in total but didn't try for tickets this time round.

It's too easy to chase the festival as I call it by seeking out the things you know you'll enjoy and missing most of the amazing things that are right under your nose.

Rather than worry about who might have performed, or who I should have watched in 2017 etc. I prefer to reflect on the many amazing experiences I have been priviliged enough to have there - the majority of which aren't bands.

I performed on the last free Glastonbury (1978) and not been since- I should imagine now it's a very different experience from the one I had.

Yeah I agree, apparently Floyd played in 1971 but haven't since so in the years when they rose to international fame they never went back. Strange as I suppose the festival opens you up to a whole new audience.

One of the weekends where the BBC comes into its own. Get some cans in, stick it on the projector, and watch Glastonbury from your couch (Ill be in Budapest so will have to do it on catch up, but still)

Don’t want io put a dampener on it but this years line up sucks. Especially the headline acts. Last year, Paul McCartney put on an amazing show especially considering his age but I can’t see chubby chops emulating that.

Only people who haven't been to Glastonbury focus on the Pyramid stage headliners to assess whether a line up looks any good. You could have no live acts at all and still have the best few days of your year.

Its very subjective, is music. I'd take Elton John over McCartney given the choice, for sure.

Macca was amazing partially because he got Bruce and wotsit from the wotsit who used to be in Nirvana and some stunning videos.

Sensational show ......

Elton will no doubt put a great show on but I don't think his body or work is the same.

For me, Glastonbury is about the up-and-coming bands you hear in the late afternoon and evening on 6Music, etc.

I remember a group of us posting on here last year during Paul McCartney’s performance last year. I don’t think most of us were expecting too much but we got a stunning two and a half hours from him.

But as has been said, a lot more than the pyramid stage to see.

Failed to get tickets in both the Oct and April sales

I had said Elton John before this year, although he struggles to get around the stage now, he has the catalogue and I'm sure he'll have guests like Paul McCartney did last year. Artic Monkeys were another I wouldnt have minded seeing on the Pyramid stage.

Re-formed Oasis could go either way.

Personally think the Pyramid is great at to watch bands, the whole setting works and the sound is decent for a massive field but the fun happens in the small corners. As someone who likes dance music, the South East corner is where I spend most of my time.

For those that have tickets - enjoy 8-)

Just a clip from Paul's Glastonbury show - I've got a feeling interspersed with clips from John from the Apple rooftop sessions (I think)....!

We had a gang of us round my house and it drew a gasp from everyone.

To be fair, the kids were upstairs listening to badly rhymed dross about 'smacking up your hoe' etc. Quite why anyone would want to beat up a gardening tool I have no idea but there you go...

So, I guess you'd have to be of a certain musical vintage to gasp at Paul and John singing together again...

Recommend Young Fathers and The Comet is Coming from this years lineups. Both showcase incredible musicianship and performance.

AM are the band of a generation but I just can't get on board with their new stuff. Sounds like a tribute act to something and Alex looks like Richard Hammond.

Oh god, he does look like him 🤣

I liked a lot of TBHC but The Car was self indulgent and boring. Also heard some clips from the recent live performances, and he seems to use that lounge singer voice to all of the tracks, even the early stuff. Just a bit weird and slows everything down.

Went up his own arse best part of 10 year ago and hasn't really emerged since, the stuff prior to this was really good the later stuff very weak.

Yeah, I totally get they can't be making the same stuff they made when they were eighteen. It'd be a bit weird if they were still singing about pulling girls in Sheffield. But I cringe when I see them now. They just don't sound as original as they used to. Put down the handbook, strip back the 70s tribute act and his lyrics are still absolutely sublime though.

Like I said, band of a generation.

Agree. Although pretty difficult not to go up your own arse a bit when he's had the success, mansions and models he's had.

Weather looks great for it. I’ve been twice, one with similar ish to this one and one where it was a complete mud pit. Both good but preferred the first. Enjoy!

Went to the 1970 one, which in a sense was the 1st, at B & W showground. A brilliant music festival with some of the very top acts of the day.
Can't say I like what it's become.

Oh my 3rd bottle of Poretti, enjoyed Texas, Krept & Conan, Courteneers and Foo Fighters so far.

Arctic Monkeys later on, unsure what to expect after bad reviews from people who recently went to see them live.

The Comet Is Coming are one of those groups that could play some little hidden away tent at 2pm on Friday, or they could be main support on the Pyramid stage Sunday night and they'd fit the part either way and probably be one of the best acts of the weekend. They're banging. Followed them since their near enough their inception and they so, so good.
