Gary O’Neil
Gary O’Neil
Left Bournemouth.
Re: Gary O’Neil
On the surface it looks pretty awful after the job he did last season. But I guess they are looking at the quality of managers in the Prem next season and thinking they probably have one of the ‘worst’ ones. Ruthlessness of football.

I should never be surprised at a manager going but I wasn’t expecting that

Could be a multitude of reasons.
Transfer strategy, fall out with the new owners….anything.

Silly decision that I hope sees them take one of the relegation spots.

Re: Gary O’Neil
Ending the season with 4 straight defeats wouldn’t have impressed the owners regarding the prospects for the coming campaign. The next appointment may give more of a clue as to their strategy in the transfer market etc.

not done him much favours though has it?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 12:47 pmReported in Bournemouth Echo that there is no connection

Crazy decision but good news for us.
Re: Gary O’Neil
Not sure why good news for us. They may well appoint a far better and proven coach.

Surely got to be Super Frankie Lampard with Uncle Harry as DoF.
Andoni Iriola is odds on favourite though.

Re: Gary O’Neil
Iraola is a free agent having quit Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season- so if he is getting the job that would explain the quick turnaround

Re: Gary O’Neil
A brilliant appointment, though expect him to have a decent season at Bournemouth and then next summer immediately get taken by a bigger club.
Re: Gary O’Neil
It’s going to be interesting because Bournemouth are currently third favourites for the drop (we are 4th). Everyone seems to have a good manager in the bottom half (though Edwards and Heckingbottom may get found out) but 3 have to drop.claretburns wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 3:10 pmA brilliant appointment, though expect him to have a decent season at Bournemouth and then next summer immediately get taken by a bigger club.

After all the stability of Eddie Howe they’ve now sacked four managers since he left three years ago.

Re: Gary O’Neil
If Wolves can hold on to their current manager and can make some useful additions he will keep them out of trouble. Wolves had a strong second half of the season having been joint bottom of the PL on Boxing Day but ending the season comfortably clear of the bottom 3.claretburns wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 3:38 pmSummer still to come with transfers etc but for me Wolves, Sheff Utd and Luton to go down.
Re: Gary O’Neil
They need to sell before they buy due to FFP. They are in talks with Traore but he is out of contract and there are a few teams interested in him. They area also losing Joao Moutinho who, even though he is 36, played 31 games last season. They will need replacing along with Neves with the £47m they get for him. I doubt they will get like for like for all 3.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 8:16 pmIf Wolves can hold on to their current manager and can make some useful additions he will keep them out of trouble. Re: Gary O’Neil
I don't know how much you have to prove yourself than take over a team that the previous successful manager had decided was incapable of staying in the PL. Blend a number of January signings into an effective team and comfortably stay in the PL.
Given the number of elite managers are only a handful and the rest seem to fail as often as they succeed I don't know what constitutes a proven manager.
