Tour de France - 2023 edition
Happy Tour de France Eve everyone!!
TdF wheels out of Bilbao tomorrow, for its prestigious Grand Départ. A hilly stage to open with, as opposed to a TT like we often see.
Clearly looking like a straightforward head-to-head between Vingegard and Pogacar.
I’m all in on Jumbo, so Vingegard gets my backing. I’d really really love to see Thibaut Pinot have a great Tour: he’s absolutely awesome and frankly deserves more success.
Also interested to see if Pidcock can push on. His descents alone make tuning in worth it.
Enjoy the ride folks. Gary’s ready!!

Stages 9,10 and 11 are in my neck of the woods, a part of the route of 11 passes about 5km from my house, going to get on that with the Burnley top.

Wout for green, and yellow for the first week
JV for yellow, TP a couple of minutes back
Cav to take a single stage
Pidcock to take a stage
Yates to take a stage
Caleb Ewan to win in Paris
Can't wait

Part of me wonders if he will almost be gifted a stage...
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
I love watching the mountain sections, ok there is drug abuse revelations, but the scenery and the cyclists taking on the climbs is brilliant viewing.
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
I think that he’ll be given the Champs if he hasn’t won a stage by then, the Peloton is a competitive but respectful beast. Cav wont want that though, he will be all out to get it early but I’ve gone for stage seven for his win.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 10:59 pmPart of me wonders if he will almost be gifted a stage...
Ben O’Connor winner for me (got in At 80’s) with Pidcock top five.
Agree with Thibaut, hope he has a magnificent ride. Stage thirteen on Bastille day would be a great way to bow out.

Agreed. Nobody gifts the Paris finale. Sadly for Cav his best chance slipped him by t’other year when on a stage made for him his team let the breakaway have too big a lead.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 8:50 amNo chance. Wout didn’t gift it him last time so why would he now?

Avoiding the riots will give this year's race an added element of jeopardy
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
He will get his win on one of the flat stages so it won’t be an issue.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 9:31 amAgreed. Nobody gifts the Paris finale. Sadly for Cav his best chance slipped him by t’other year when on a stage made for him his team let the breakaway have too big a lead.
No one gifts it, but teams can be ordered, individuals can disrupt.

Pogacar broke his wrist in April which impacted his build up to the tour. The TDF finds you out if your not 100% ready.

Wout is amazing, I love him. His power and drive is unbelievable. Have you seen ‘Tour de France Unchained’ on Netflix?
He was wanting to take mountain stages off his own Jumbo GC riders last year. He’s an absolute winner.
Cav needs to find his moment; I’d be gobsmacked if anyone backed down and why should they?

They wouldn’t individually, but sentiment and goodwill travel quickly though the peloton.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:52 amWout is amazing, I love him. His power and drive is unbelievable. Have you seen ‘Tour de France Unchained’ on Netflix?

Super days racing. Sad to lose two team leaders to a crash.
Love the winner but will his team want to defend the yellow jersey from day two?

Rumours going round it might be cancelled due to protests and riots.

Decent first stage result, Simon had me worried.

It's all about Pogacar for Team UAE.
They might try and keep Yates around Pogacar a bit more if there are any doubts over Pog's wrist

Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
That’s true but it’s a bumpy day tomorrow also and, traditionally, the yellow jersey team lead the chase after any breakaway to keep the jersey. There is money for every day you wear any jersey. UAE might not be bothered, as you suggest.
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
Great days racing
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
Gone big for Adam again today with Pidcock (he might win it on the decent), N P, Corbin S and Alaphillippe as my other serious winners…
Chucked in Ben O ‘Connor and Jai H as my fun bets.

Todays lumpy stage.
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
Can do pal. Spent £5 yesterday and £20 today from yesterdays winnings (£13 on Adam). The £60 is going on date day Sunday lunch.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 8:49 amWill you also be posting unsuccessful betslips? Just for a bit of balance? Gamblers tend not to I've noticed!!
I don’t bet big, and I don’t really bet on anything but cycling and a start of season who’s winning the leagues acca.
My grandad and dad brought me up to think winning 10p from my them is worth more than £100 from a bookies, with inflation that’s now 50p, but it’s served me well!

Please please please can we not turn this thread, FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS, into a thread about the rights and wrongs of gambling? I have been more vociferous than anyone about gambling sponsorship and endorsements, on here over the last three years or so…but never questioned anyone’s right to make a bet, enjoy a bet and share their wins or losses. If people want to talk about their wins, that’s fine with me and can I ask that we don’t have a go at them for not posting other selections. We all know how it works…win some, lose some.
Let’s keep this about the riders, the bikes, the jerseys, the teams, the sprints and the mountains.

I respect your right to advocate the pitfalls of gambling, shouldn’t you also respect ours to be open and honest about winning/losing should we choose to be?
One post asking about losers and me happily sharing that info doesn’t mean that people are having a go. Seems a little pre-emptive in my opinion.
Happy to chat around this rather than it turn into an argument.

Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
That’s a very well-made point. My inference from WW was that it was a little dig at the fact that you were not posting your losing bets and I apologise for that if it wasn’t. Like I’ve said, I have no objection to people talking about it. I just don’t want people falling out over it. Apologies if people felt judged too quickly.
That said, I would now like to take issue with you about your comment about me not respecting your right to discuss your bets. When have I ever alluded to the fact that this should not be permitted? And in fact, in the very post you have quoted me on, I have talked about the fact that I have no issues whatsoever with people posting their wins or their losses. I’m a bit puzzled by that part of your reply to be honest, and I’d appreciate some context.

This could be a first for this board; I take your point and apologise. I understand you feelings on the matter, and I’m glad we could discuss the issues without it becoming a personal attack.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 10:25 amThat’s a very well-made point. No problems at all and thanks for the reply. Like I’ve also said, please continue to celebrate your wins/ talk about your losses…it’s not what my gambling agenda concerns. Fingers crossed for a good day in the TdF today. Congrats for your selection yesterday.

Phenomenal sprint from a full kilometre / kilometer out to win today's stage.
Flicking between F1 / Golf / Ashes and Tour de France managed to catch all the critical bits .
Quite entertaining for a weekend with no football.

Didn’t see that coming, thought they’d burnt all their matches yesterday! Nice to see though!
Re: Tour de France - 2023 edition
No winners today, and I don’t like betting on sprints, so I’m all in on Cav in spirit! Don’t think it’ll come until seven but I’d love it, I’D LOVE IT, if he won it tomorrow!
