So what's the answer ?

If white queen moves to g8 then black Knight puts white in check, so more than two moves.
Qg8
Nxg6 +
Bxg6 ++

Still checkmate in two.

Unless you put black King in check on your first move, black Knight will put you in check.

Which will mean 3 moves minimum.

Yes there is. Bishop takes Night e6 and checkmate

Qxg7

Lots of options for blacks next move, but none of them prevent check.

Nd7 prevents checkmate in 2 moves though. Its the 2 move bit which is tricky.

Answer is Qg8

I've just seen that if Qg8 and black plays Knight e6 then Qa8 is checkmate. So I think Qg8 is the answer

Do you have a rating for your online Chess?

I've recently started playing on Chess.com and they have given me a rating of 1400. Not sure how good that is?
I have beaten computer players with 2000 rating but have struggled to get anywhere against 2200 rated player.
My rating is 1845 (last time I looked). I’ve not been under 1800 for a couple of years but never have quite made it to 1900 (highest was in the 1890s). When you start at first your rating is usually defaulted to around 1200 but goes up quickly if you win a few games. 1700 is considered good club player standard. 1800+ is better than average. 2000+ is excellent. 2500 and you are getting up to near grandmaster standard. If you have beaten players around 2k your rating will shoot up quickly.
There is a debate going on as to the best site actually. I prefer Gameknot but many prefer Chess.com. If you give Gameknot a try look me up for a game. User name simply housby. I think I am registered with Chess.com but can’t remember last time I went on.
NB. If you do want a game in friendlies I always ask for ten days per move. I almost always move every day, sometimes more than once, but things occasionally get in the way so I allow for that.

1, Qg8 g2 (for example)
2. Rxe5 1-0

I use lichess.org - strong site with some decent engines.
