OT Car Keycards Rant
So, today my keycard stopped being recognosed by the car.
Unlocked the car, with the card, no problem.
Stick it in the slot.....no joy (wife says similar some days!!).
So, gets the spare out thats never been used and...same issue.
Changed the batteries in both and both lock, unlock the car but the car doesnt recognise either key - so I think the car is the issue.
Done a google and 90% say its the key, but with the spare doing the same I'm thinking its the car.
Anyone got any suggestions on a fix please?
I can't even get it to a garage

Re: OT Car Keycards Rant
Can you reboot your car?
I can mine and that tends to restore the oddities.
The dealers usually know a fix, otherwise.

Same happened to me last night, seems ok today, the battery is quite new. I drive a Renault Captur now and for some reason I always buy Renaults, in over 30 years only once did I have a key issue.

Re: OT Car Keycards Rant
Are you sure that the spare card has been programmed to work with your car?
There should be a facility to program a new card, hopefully not one that requires a working card to be present in the slot

You haven’t given make & model.
Do you have a flat battery? Not being a dick, just asking.

Re: OT Car Keycards Rant
It could be as simple as both keys need new batteries. I would try it. If that doesn’t work there will be videos on YouTube telling you how to reprogram the keys to match your car.

Have a read about how to reprogram your key to the car.
Could be that.
Usually involves putting a spare or something in the car with you and pressing some buttons or whatnot

Oh and to save yourself some time like what cost me two hours trying to work out why the **** my key wouldn't work after changing the battery, make sure you peeled off the stupid sticker on the bottom that says "it's generally a good idea not to eat me, but you already know that"

Oops its a Renault Clio 63 plate.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 5:30 pmYou haven’t given make & model.

Have changed batteries in both cards, and they had no stickers on them.
Spoke to a key replacememt guy who suggested shoving a knife in the slot with the card to help with the signal. No joy.
Car itself had a new battery 6 months ago.
Renault dealership (Rochdale) no longer "have the equipment" for working on a Car this age....
