Post by Bosscat » Mon Jul 10, 2023 6:51 pm

Anybody seen them lately ... last Lindisfarne concert I went to above 40 yrs ago.

A friend has just got us tickets to see them in Settle at The Victoria Hall.

A real blast from the past

I went to see them in 1982 at Manchester Apollo, one of their Christmas shows. I then saw them again some years later at King Georges Hall Blackburn. Afterwards in the pub across the road they came in for a drink and we had a drink with them. Looking back now, all a bit surreal.

If they don’t make it to Settle it will because of the Fog on the Tyne but they’ll be ok if they follow the Clear White Light. They will be off quickly after the performance needing to Run For Home.

Many, many years since I saw them, around fifty years to be exact. Went with a mate from Uni who was from Newcastle and acted as interpreter.

Saw them once, very early 1980's. They were appearing at a festival.at Nostell Priory where the headline act was Jethro Dull.
I think The Blues Band were another support act.

We can swing together,
We can have a wee wee,
We can have a wet on the wall.
If someone slips a whisper,
That its simple sister,
Slap em down and saliver on their smalls.

I also Saw them at Manchester Apollo probably Christmas 82, seem to remember them dressed up like Showaddywaddy.

Saw them at Kendal Brewery Arts before that which I preferred as it was more traditional and personal.

Favourite tunes - Train in G Major, Alright on The Night, Fog on The Tyne, All Fall Down....many more I have forgotten.

Agree, won't be the same without Alan Hull.

Remember seeing Steeleye Span at Lancaster Town Hall around the same time - Maddy Prior's crystal clear angelic voice.

Favourite Album - Parcel of Rogues.

Think I must've been a bit of a hippie back then

I went to a couple of their Newcastle City Hall Christmas concerts in the late 70s, perhaps not the best I've been to musically but an unbelievable atmosphere. 2000 Geordies filled with Christmas spirit; Lindisfarne could've been reciting from the Newcastle phone book and they'd have been singing along

Must admit I’d never heard of Lindisfarne for many years (as a relatively young man) aside from Fog on the Tyne. Was introduced to them via Sam Fender, who did a cover of Winter Song a couple of years ago. Looked into them since, and Alan Hull was certainly a fantastic lyricist.

For anyone who’s interested in Sam Fender’s cover, here it is: https://youtu.be/92C7auMxer8

I have seen them a couple of times in the past few years, Apex at Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham Church( they had a bar in there...). I also saw them back in the seventies several times. Its doesn't have the same energy these days and Alan Hull's son in-law fills in very well for the great man. Just enjoy those great songs, have a couple of beers and it will be a right good night.

City Song, Peter Brophy Don’t Care, Passing Ghosts all remind me of my days at Newcastle Uni in the 70s drinking in the Long Bar in the students union that was open from 3:00 until 6:00. Those were the days of licensing hours, but you could go on a proper bender because of that bar’s opening hours

Saw them most recently at Wylam Brewery Newcastle about a year ago. Different gravy watching them live with a bunch of Geordies, but they are all good versatile musicians & Alan Hulls son in law does a good job on the vocals. Rod Clements is the only original member. Easy to forget how many banging tunes they brought out until you see them live.

My Mrs is a big fan and was at this concert. Said after Lindisfarne played a lot of the crowd left and didn't bother with Dylan. That's her memory, not sure if true.

Saw them back in 1984 erm or something at St James Park too many years ago and too many drugs ago (allegedly) with Dylan and Santana

My memory of them is a bit like my memory of most things from that year ..... foggy to completely blank.

And I managed to resist the foggy on the Tyne quip - well almost

Tickets for those Christmas gigs up in Newcastle were like gold dust in the 70s!
They were a great live group.

Reminds me of the one in Ilkley, saw Paul Jones there last year.

First saw them at Preston around 1969, think it was a Charisma label promotion gig. Also on the bill were VDGG and if my memory serves me well the early Genesis. If not them it would be Quintessence or Audience. Anyhow Lindisfarne were brilliant and had everyone on there feet.

Quintessence! That triggered a memory. My pal promoted them in Readibg Town Hall about 72 ish. I helped man the door.

Myself and a few friends saw Ray Jackson and Maddy Prior at Bacup Royal Court Theatre about 10 years ago.
We were treated to some classic Lindisfarne and Steeleye Span songs that night.
Marvelous stuff. 👍
