Which bit of the video highlighted that?Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 4:36 pmBetter. His entrance this morning highlighted his reluctance to be here. And that’s nothing against Barnes (loved him by the way!)

Re: Wout is back
The fact the club put it out on social media makes me think he could be here to stay. We'd look pretty stupid if one week was 'Wout's back', and the next 'Wout's gone'.
IF he stays, (and it's a massive IF IMO), he's going to need to bag a few early doors to get the fans on side. Let's be honest, we're a fickle bunch. If he does the business he'll be forgiven by the majority.

None, making it up to fit an agenda. On the pitch Wout gave nothing less than 100% as well. He had an agreement to not play in the championship and Pace honoured it. Proper non story.

If VK can't get Weghorst shaping up, I doubt anyone can. I assume they've talked at some length regarding the new season's possibilities already.

The bit in his head I think.
At best he was a bit sheepish knowing how his re entrance would probably be received on the social media airwaves….
As normal, people putting 2 + 2 together and getting something around 42 (no not the meaning of life)

Delighted with this, we'll need all sorts of options this coming season and Wout is a great one.

Re: Wout is back
It’s almost a decision made for us at present
Tella & Barnes gone
Obafemi injured
Jays fitness won’t survive multiples of 90 minutes
Foster doesn’t seem ready to lead the line
Gyokeres signing unsuccessful
Flemming looks like it’s not going to happen
So if we had Tella Obafemi Gyokeres Flemming Jay & Foster we’d have decision to make
We have a half fit Jay & Foster who didn’t start in the championship
So Wout Weghorst 28 starts or so for Man U in half a season
As a hold up player like Barnes was more than as a goal scorer, has to be a yes at present

Let's wait and see.
We don't know though whether VK sees him integral to the team. The fact that they have welcomed him back with a video probably would lead you to believe that they haven't brought him back in to shove him with the under 21s to train for example.
Personally - The 2 best things that could happen from here onwards are.
1 - He proves himself and scores his share of goals
2 - He proves himself in the next few weeks that his services will be better at another club.
What the worst thing for me is that he stays and we go into the season where he becomes the centre of every conversation after the game for all the wrong reasons.
Like you say - we will have to wait and see. I hope that if he is staying, he can show what he is capable of and that he can become someone we can all get behind for the positive impact he has had on our season.

Re: Wout is back
I thought he was going on loan to Galataray? Also rumoured to he wanted by Everton. He seems to have rocked up for pre season a bit late, suggest that he might have been waiting for something away from Burnley.
If he is here to stay now it will be interesting. Like everyone I hope he turns out to be a success with VK under a different style of play and set up. To me he seemed a bit of an odd ball, tall but average in the air, not exactly pacy and did not appear to be a natural finisher. He did though show decent close control tried to make room to receive the ball, although it did tend to make him look like he was constantly running away from play. But since transfers seem to a bit of a struggle for this close season (so far), he may well be needed in the end.

Re: Wout is back
If he puts in a few solid performances all will be well (-ish). Have my doubts about him doing that though, because as far as the PL is concerned he was shite at Burnley and shite at a better team in ManU where he ought not to have looked so shite, but who knows. I think he's a rubbish striker and too lumbering to be of use to us as a link up man in such a fluid system as we play, but if I were being generous, this team is night and day from the one he played in under Dyche, so it's a fresh start in a sense, even if that is a bit tainted by us watching him do a bad job of playing the Barnes role (deployed pretty much identically under ETH as Barnes was for us) for ManU. I'm all for wiping the slate clean and everything, but I'd rather sell him to be honest. He'll have my support if nobody wants him. We've given our backing to worse players to be fair.
Re: Wout is back
Clean slate now with me, it's how he left not that he left, his choice of words could have been better. If Roberts is OK with him as well that will do me.
Re: Wout is back
I think too much is often made of the Roberts interaction. I saw that as nothing more than in-game shithousery.

Re: Wout is back
Happy to give him a chance, although I still doubt he'll start the season with us.
As for his spell at Man Utd, Ten Hag picked him to start for them 19 times. They did better when he started playing for them than they had when Ronaldo was there. Might only have scored twice, but their results improved. He's painful to watch trying to run, he's won't get anyone off their seats but he's easily a lower-half Prem player and that's what we're hoping to be.
As for people still moaning about that miss at Villa, it was nowhere near as poor as golden-boy Cornet's miss at Norwich.

Re: Wout is back
Maybe it's just me but I think Wout would do well under Kompany's system. He's decent with the ball at his feet and could definitely play the Barnes role, linking up play and creating opportunities for Zaroury, Benson and (hopefully) Tella. Not sure we'll find anyone better for a reasonable price.

Still people want to ignore this. He only signed for us based on agreement that if we got relegated he could leave for a chance to play in the World Cup.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 11:20 amIts going to be fun either way
What I like best about discussions on him is the desire to make up stuff about him based on him having a verbal agreement to leave if we got relegated and a ten second altercation in a Wales v Holland match
Come on lads, don't keep us all waiting
Can’t say I was blown away by him, but he gave us some hope at the time, worked hard and he is a Burnley player. If the club want him to stay then that’s good enough for me.
Re: Wout is back
Roberts looked very unhappy and Weghorst body language was certainly not great. Let’s see

Re: Wout is back
I am glad to see him back and have never questioned the move away. He agreed to come to Burnley with a clause allowing him to go if we got relegated. We signed up to it, he signed up to it. Why shouldn't he show the ambition to play at the highest level available. In his case it was a loan abroad, World Cup and half a season at a pretty big club in comparison to championship Burnley.
We are back in the PL, Wout is back with us playing in the league he signed up for when he joined. Give him some slack, he's not a fan like us, he's a pro player and as long as he keeps to his side of his contract and does his best that's good enough for me.

Re: Wout is back
Weghorst certainly gets a “bad press” from the Clarets supporters! I (and many others) was brought up cheering on players who came to the town as young footballers, lived in digs locally and married Burnley girls and returned here when their playing careers were over. We are in a different world nowadays with players arriving and expected to fit in immediately. It’s not easy to take a liking to Wout with his abrupt almost arrogant manner and his seeming lack of interest in playing for Burnley. However he showed enough signs first time round that he was prepared to run hard for his team and whilst he didn’t score many he did use his strength and sheer awkwardness to be involved in assists for his teammates.
Other players have arrived from abroad and struggled for fitness (Defour, Cornet in recent times). They somehow remained popular characters even though they were unavailable on many occasions with unexplained injury lay offs.
I suppose if VK wants him to play we should accept that and get on with it. Lots of comments about his spat with Roberts but can’t see that being a big issue really. Roberts himself had a difficult start to his career at Turf and seems to be a spiky type of character which might partly explain a heat of the moment incident.
Wout’s time at Old Trafford was quite successful in terms of results improving whilst he was on the field. He will have a couple of medals for his efforts in a team that also finished 3rd in Prem League. I think the manager saw the benefit of playing his fellow countryman more so that the fans who were more used to the silky skills of Pogba and Ronaldo who preceded him at United. His ungainly running style is not what they are used to and in the end he got little credit for his efforts.
Let’s hope he proves us wrong and saves us spending £20m on someone who might not hit the ground running in any case.

He’s lumbering, with no acceleration. Weak, and easily muscled off the ball, tall, but terrible in the air.
He’s clearly a good technical player, as his time in Germany would show, but he’s shown nothing in 2 half seasons to say that he’s a premier league quality player. Virtually no assists or goals…. And an regular inability to finish when in front of goal.
What is it that you’ve seen in his premier league appearances that you’re hanging on to that make you think it will work? I don’t need faith, or World Cup cameo’s as the answer here…. He’s had a full season in the league now to assess his ability.

Could name 4 or 5 other people in the video that had the same body language as roberts.
Also weghorst first day at training ground for 12 months, full new team of back room staff and 18 new players from when he was last there, he’s obvs going to need time to integrate
Re: Wout is back
It's a wild guess but I think it may have been triggered more by Weghorst scoring an injury time winner against Wales than the previous Burnley season.

Regardless of him being a good player, it could upset the other players if he just comes back permanently. Yes he had an agreement to leave if we went down. Fine. But he also said that he would want to come back if we got promoted. Not that he would fight to get us promoted - just if the other lads did it. So, by all means try and get a place on a higher league but don’t expect to be welcomed back to Burnley with open arms

He did okay for United as well from what I saw (not the standard they need to push on, but he contributed)
He's technically good, works hard and presses well, and is pretty skilful - I don't think he's going to be a natural goal scorer at this level, but he will be much more suited to our current system than he was to the previous one
I think there was an argument on here that he might be our current best striker (Jay not the player he was, Foster still in development, Barnes moved on) and though that is more a criticism of our current striker options, its possibly correct
I'm possibly not seeing stuff that you are because I like him, but I think he can play a role this season
And if he's not fitting in, VK will bin him off asap, and I think the fact he is here suggests he's willing to give it all he's got
