Drew 1-1 against a Turkish second division team. ‘Strong’ maybe overstating it somewhat!

Re: Tella
I think the boat as sailed with this one , i hope that I'm wrong and hope we can come to some sort of agreement for him.
Re: Tella
I genuinely don’t get this fascination with Tella.
Yes he did well for us in championship but basically he’s an untried premier league player. Small… lightweight who I don’t think would get a sniff against premier league defenders

We’re knackered then because that covers most of our squad!
Re: Tella
I'm with you on this one I don't think he'd step up, he was brilliant in certain games last season but then went missing in many more too.
Think there's much better about for the 15 million quoted. Benson and Zaroury are better
Re: Tella
Southampton fans saying he doesn't fit in their style of play and they have better than him. I don't think he will be happy being a bench warmer after last season. He does seem lightweight but teams won't sit back against us and his pace would still cause problems in the Premier.
Re: Tella
Zaroury got carried through the second half of the season after the world cup imho.

Re: Tella
Its a strange one with Tella. I thought he was brilliant for us but i also don't think he's worth the money they want. (it appears the club agree) He was unplayable in some games but also very poor in others. However, when he was injured at Reading i thought we missed him while he recovered.
Re: Tella
The saving point will be that the other two teams coming up are weaker than us, so we only have to finish above one other
But, we are well short in terms of height, strength and speed across central midfield and central striker options
I can do without Tella if we address these other two areas

Re: Tella
Tella looks well worth a punt - his fast and intelligent movement will terrify most PL defenders. He’s a known quantity, likes the club and seems to get on well with the other players.

Re: Tella
Tella was brilliant for us last season , a class above the Champ and his goals were instrumental in our season . To get a confident class centre forward who is fully on board with our style is huge IMO. If we lose other loans like THB/Maatsen along with possibly Muric and most of the old guard we could be in the very tricky situation of bedding in a new team again .

Re: Tella
Tellas average position on the pitch last season would suggest different. He was the most advanced out of any Burnley player and his average position was just right on centre mark.

Re: Tella
I wouldn't read much into that. Ward-Prowse, Lavia and Livramento were involved as well but there's no way they all stay at Southampton. Still lots of outgoings to come given their financial situation.

Re: Tella
He got us a phenomenal number of points last season and will continue to be a "points earner" in the Prem. For me his energy and pressing, speed, and his touch and superb finishing make him easily worth £15m.Under VK he will get even better. Che Adams of Saints also priced at £15m-I know which one I would invest in. Sell Taylor and McNally and we have a fair chunk of the money to make it happen

Re: Tella
Tella scored 19 goals for us last season!! Remarkable achievement.
You would have to go back a llong ong way in the record books I suspect, to find a player scoring so many goals for us in his debut first season. Would possibly have been 25 or more if not injured.
He will thrive in the EPL....go get him Vinny!!!

Yet another from last season to add to some posters ever growing list of players who weren’t that good.
Amazing how we absolutely walked the league.

Re: Tella
Absolutely with you on the tella situation, but sell Taylor we've no left back. I'd be using mcnally in part ex for flemming from Millwall, mcnally and £7.8m. But agree that one way or another we need to get tella back, he's instrumental in the system and will get better.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 9:37 amHe got us a phenomenal number of points last season and will continue to be a "points earner" in the Prem. Re: Tella
I agree about Taylor and the need to keep him unless we get a new LB. I am confident we get a new LB as Taylor seemed to struggle in convincing VK he should be starting, but VK invariably used him as a CH, where we now have good coveralwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 9:57 amAbsolutely with you on the tella situation, but sell Taylor we've no left back. Re: Tella
Tbf to Taylor I think he was unsure where vk wanted him to play, because of he's exploits to turn him into a cb, he eventually was neither. Taylor was never ever a cb, was always a left back, but eventually lost confidence in himself to play that position, and was very exposed when he came on at Ewood, because he'd simply not played that position all season. Vk imo needs to realise he's a left back and only that, that said I just don't think he fits into vk's system but at present is the only left back we have.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 10:04 amI agree about Taylor and the need to keep him unless we get a new LB. Re: Tella
I would love to have Tella back.
He's fast, can find space & and has an eye for goal ,which for me is his most important asset . That is something that can't be taught.
However, I don't think he is worth £15m.

Re: Tella
Who was the last player to score 19 or more goals for us in a season?...George Beal perhaps!!
Re: Tella
It's not just his goals which were important to the team. It's his speed, positioning, work rate and enthusiasm (which rubs off on other players) that caused so many problems for other teams even when he didn't manage to score. I would love him back but I'm not building my hopes up as I think Southampton will play hard ball and price him out of a move. They know what he can do in the Championship and won't want to lose him.

Re: Tella
Love his energy and enthusiasm. He takes his chances as well. Really intelligent movement. Looked like he enjoyed every game. A little bit underrated in terms of his feisty nature as well so the physicality isn't going to bother him. Think we will have less of the ball so quick players on the counter away from home will be more of an option. He's a tad reminiscent of a coach that we have on the bench currently. Would love to see him back.
