Eating out in Manchester

I am taking the Mrs out for a meal in Manchester next Thursday evening. I am considering going to Dishoom but open to suggestions for any other places in and around the city centre.

Anyone been anywhere really nice recently? As with the above 'Eating out in Leeds ' Post, I am looking for more Fence Gate than Sycamore Farm.

Sud Pasta in Ancoats is great option for pasta.

Gaucho for steak.

Bondobust on Oxford Street for picky Indian food. They brew their own beer as well.
The breakfasts at dishoom are amazing, I get one everytime

Dishoom is always a good pick, and for prime city centre the prices are reasonable .
For steak Hawksmoor , Fazenda or miller &carter though avoid Gaucho ( ludicrous pricing for just “ decent “ steak)

All the other suggestions on here are good and the choice in Manchester is quite staggering .

There's a lovely farmhouse style restaurant only 30mins drive or so away, does a lovely carvery but has high standards of it's patrons. Service with a smile and nothings too much for the staff.

Went to Miller and Carter in Leeds last week for the first time and whilst the food was fine it was a very bland experience. It had an American chain restaurant feel about it. I personally much prefer Gaucho’s - has a more high-end feel to it and I prefer the Argentinian theme. Also having just checked both menus the prices seem comparable.

Nawaabs is a very good if you like Indian food it’s an all you can eat buffet but very good for the price.

Re: M&C , while the Manc centre one isn’t too “ chainy” there’s a local one to me ( though great steaks ) does indeed feel a bit “ brewers fayre” in its vibe .

Yeah I've only been to the Leeds restaurant so can't speak for others, likewise with Gaucho's.

I'm a fairly regular visitor to Fazendas (also in Leeds, not Manc) and can concur with other recommendations, although the format isn't for every occasion.

If you are a bit of a foodie, ERST is absolutely top notch.

It's a small plate menu, a lot of the wines are natural wines... but the food is really top class. Its a nice buzzy vibe, relaxed staff. Definitely not your standard fair. Other similar foodie options include another hand, street urchin.... potentially kala if you want a nice bistro vibe.

If you were after something a bit safer the steaks and service at Hawksmoor are just about perfect. You do pay for it, but I'd say its worth the splurge.

I don't mind Dishoom. Probably prefer the brunch there to the normal menu.

Yeah me too. Went a couple of weeks ago and thought it was expensive for small portions (yes , I do understand it's tapas) of variable quality tapas.Certainly wasn't terrible but , yes, "underwhelmed" describes my feelings too.

Not made it up to Osma yet but heard very good things, it’s certainly on the list!

Another shout for Evuna on Deansgate.

Albert's Shed is smart with a location next to the canal and has a large outdoor area for alfresco dining during the Summer months. Solid menu and good service.

Quite like the Lebanese place in Spinningfields. Cote is a chain but I like it it and there are plenty of decent Tapas places.

Lavanter has just shut down in Rammy but have opened a place in Mcr I believe - not sure what it's called, which is not that helpful.

Osma is about the best restaurant in GM right now. There is a 2nd branch of it at Exhibition with Baratxuri, which is the old sister restaurant to Levanter.

Granny's list is about on the money and Erst is probably the best of the city centre places. You won't go wrong with Dishoom though. Get the Old Fashioned.
