Good opening, should be an England pen here.

Negated for an earlier foul.

Two VAR's and what looks like a bad injury to one of Haiti's players.

Surprised the first pen was over-ruled for the earlier foul, it was.
I thought they only reviewed the pen incident as the ref had deemed the first challenge legal.
Some of our ladies first touch is dire.

Credit to Haiti. Making it very difficult for us to get a good flow going and are winning the physical battles. Far more interesting game than I expected. Still think a 2 or 3 nil victory for the Lionesses but they will have to be better on the ball to do really well in the competition.

Haiti are playing some good stuff

Little more composure in attack and they’d be back in it

England have been poor and impatient. Just need to get this out of the way unscathed and start again.

England have been crap.

I don’t think we have a chance in this tournament. Lost too many of the top players since the euros

Some of the passing has been poor but then I've also that about the men's side most of my life.

No. The plaudits they gave earned are worthless if they can't be xalled out when it is clearly poor.

The passing's been poor, the final third delivery has been disappointing but it's possible to say that without always triggering some huge debate about the standard of women's football. Plenty of times we've see the men's side stutter their way through group stage matches.

was expecting a Walkover but well played Haiti - a brave fighting performance - the goal keeper and all the team did your nation proud

Good game that

England controlled it after about 60 minutes and got better as the game went on

Big save though from Earps

Very watchable game with a few poor shots and passes but I enjoyed it.

We got it into their final third comfortably but time after time the crosses were awful. Far to many just training ground practise for the keeper.
Once you’ve seen a keeper come and take a few, effortlessly, then play them across the 6yd line bending away from her. Make her make a decision and give the striker something to attack.

I went to Haiti in 2016. I doubt you could see abject poverty like that anywhere else in the world.

Football will have given all those women a way out and a chance in life. Many getting soccer scholarships in the states and playing football in France.

Thought they put up a good performance and that number 6 is a class act.

Notwithstanding my ironic username, do you think the standard of the game earlier was anything other than terrible?

It’s like in tennis. The women’s game is slower and there is less power when shooting. The thing is when two teams are closely matched and going for goals it can be entertaining ( as per men’s game). When one of the teams goes all out defence as Haiti did today it is far less entertaining. I expect the entertainment factor will pick up significantly in the knockout stages (as in the men’s game). It’s a sporting tournament so plenty to enjoy. Beats going out in the weather we’re having and given the timing not much else happening live sports wise.

Why do these female co-commentatresses and summarisers insist on sounding like someone at an audition for East- Enders?

The one today was particularly annoying and is constantly using the term ‘transition’.

Do they "insist" on sounding like they could be on Eastenders, or is it that they have London accents? I find Emma Hayes to be a really insightful co-commentator but that's possibly because I listen to what she has to say.

Haiti / Dom Rep is a very good case study for how poverty is very much linked to historical colonialism and its attitude towards slavery (plus a bit of geography / geology as well)
