Of course.
I find it absolute rubbish that you'd post such utter nonsense as "left with the cheaper than cheap options" because we've been beaten 2-0 in a friendly after we've just spent over 30m in a week and around 50m total so far. Hope that helps.

Surely all we need to be concerned with is VK view on the fitness of the squad and how he feels they are progressing!
It’s preseason just enjoy the trips

Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
Perhaps you could elucidate on what the asking price for Tella is?
You’re awfully good at complaining at the moment about the shirt, the signings etc - now’s your chance to back it up.

Oh no. Our season is over before it has even started. Sack the board, sack Kompany and the whole management team.

They did seem press hard so hopefully a good fitness test.
On to the next one.

I fail to see why you have to abusive over the fact that I see Townsend as a cheaper than cheap option to that of Tella. The fact that we have spent a great deal on a goalkeeper and a forward has nothing to do with it.

Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
This is why I feel Kompany would prefer all friendlies behind closed doors and I don't blame him.
But at least it gives certain people something to whinge about for the next week or so.
Results in pre-season mean next to nothing. It's often a fitness thing first and foremost. You may as well have watched them run 10k. And yes, I'd still think that if we'd have won 5-0.
It always amazes me how men of forty, fifty, sixty years old who've watched football all their lives still don't get it.
The reaction on here after the Newcastle preseason kickabout last summer was hilarious.

Lets be positive.I would have been feeling worse 24 months ago under the old regime putting in this performance. Our second half v Sheff Utd away was really poor , but under Vinnie and backroom team look what happened immediately after. Today would have been a learning event for VK in so many ways

You seem to have a blindspot here. If Weghorst can do the job that VK wants him to do,then he's like a new signing, so that should free up more funds for Tella (or similar).dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:31 pmWe refuse to pay what I consider to be a fair asking price for Tella and are left with cheaper that cheap options such as a spent Townsend and the lumbering Weghorst. Alternatively if he doesn't fit in with VK's plans then we want to get as much money as possible for him to help finance a Tella.
Booing him, potentially damaging his confidence and de-motivating him is the stupidest thing to do if we're looking to sign Tella.
Furthermore, it hardly encourages potential signings to join us if they believe that we have a toxic fanbase.
Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
You'd have been booing Weggy if you'd have gone to the game no doubt. Considering you have tried to back out of this comment further down the line by claiming we have gone for a cheap option instead of tella, the comment really reads as we are being cheap with all options as you've also stated we are leaving ourselves with a lumbering weghorst and they are two different positions. How any one can say we are doing it on the cheap when we've probably already spent more than we ever had and also havnt really sold anyone is mind boggling.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:31 pmWe refuse to pay what I consider to be a fair asking price for Tella and are left with cheaper that cheap options such as a spent Townsend and the lumbering Weghorst. Don’t you start, Dermot. I’m already getting savaged on this thread, by a Welshman and a few northerners for simply saying that I would have preferred to have signed Tella and that I don’t rate Townsend and Weghorst. Someone even suggested that I was ‘booing’ the later at the game today! I’ve just been sheltering at home from the rain all day.
How are things with you anyway and how’s Little Dermot getting on with that plate in his arm?

So, just to be clear, you don't know what the asking price is for Tella, but the club should be criticised because (whether it is £15m or £25m), it's reasonable?dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:15 pmWell I read that they wanted 15million but don’t quote me on it as someone will no doubt unleash the hounds on me again.

It’s been reported on several occasions that they want 15m which I, and many others, by the way, have thought reasonable. So what’s the big deal?
Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
I've seen it reported on several occasions that they wanted £20-£25m.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 2:07 amIt’s been reported on several occasions that they want 15m which I, and many others, by the way, have thought reasonable. So what’s the big deal?
The point is that it's not really appropriate to criticise the club for something if you don't know if they did it.
Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
Tella isn't worth anywhere near £15 million, maybe half but we've signed a better player in Redmond for free.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:31 pmWe refuse to pay what I consider to be a fair asking price for Tella and are left with cheaper that cheap options such as a spent Townsend and the lumbering Weghorst. What is the obsession with Tella?
He'd be 4th choice winger now at best

Re: Genk v Burnley - Team News
I agree, Tella does not make financial sense. He costs far too much and isn’t a certain starter.
Burnley can not afford to pay 15-20m on a player that might not get that much game time.
If Benson, Zaroury, Amdouni are fit they all definitely start. Then he would have to beat out Redmond as well

He's had one good season and he's 24, it may of been a freak season it may of been because he was playing the style we were but lots of games he went missing last season.
He isn't a guarenteed success in the prem, Redmond is a better player and a proven player at a much higher level than Tella.
He's a better all round player than Tella makes much more sense to sign him on a free and save funds for elsewhere

I agree but think Redmond in our style may force his way in to the starting 11 if Zaroury or Benson don't hit the ground running, makes financial sense to take him over Tella I think it's great business.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 8:01 amI agree, Tella does not make financial sense. If we had Redmond and Tella I'd be choosing Redmond over him for the prem 100%

Honestly, you're all like a bunch of 7 year olds. I read many football boards and by far ours is the most childish. It is embarrassing.

As a genk fan I'd like to clarify that we have already been able to integrate our new players. finished up a lot of business already. Already started pre season near the start of july. Meanwhile burnley started just a while ago to build up match rhythm. I watched live in stadium. Burnley was first half very dominant in possession. We were barely able to get the ball. The only difference was that we were able to create more chances which led to the first goal. In second half it was more genk dominant in possession but it was quite 50/50 tbh. Later in the match in the 75th minute we substituted half our team so pretty much the first team was on the pitch with a strong chemistry from last season. The last 15 minutes were the only minutes burnley struggled If I'd have to say. Burnley just need to slowly warm up for the season. Don't worry about this result. We simply had more players back in to match rhythm. Also last season we were 3 matches away from winning the double and we are in UCL play offs. You didn't lose to a small club with a weak mentality at all.
(Fun fact: Kompany and Vrancken both coaches have a similar style in guiding youth and tactics. They have a similar approach and are befriended to eachother.)

I am not a claret but I love your club, since seeing the performances last season. Also burnley bought a bunch of JPL players I love to see, so naturally I'd stay updated on matches and highlights. Lots of love from genk! Good luck next season!

We were crap when he wasn’t in the side and struggled to score.
Tella was lethal man, pace over the top, relentless pressing and brilliant finishing.
15 is more than fair! Heck we spent 8 or 9 on Foster (who I’m still hopeful for)

He went missing in loads of games, he had a spell where he did nothing whatsoever then had a hot streak of goals where he scored several hat tricks which inflated his goal tally.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 3:32 pmWhen did Tella go missing?

Not against him he was great overall but at £15 million for someone who wouldn't make our starting 11 is a no from me

I point you towards the end of the season when he was injured, just how much we struggled to score without his in behind threat… not to mention games where his runs and finish either opened the scoring when it was close or rescued a point or three for us -
West Brom away prime example to win that penalty. I don’t think many in the league could do what Muric and Tella did there, running full pelt, took down the pin point precise pass perfectly and rounded the keeper - top top quality

Don't feel Tella missed loads of chances at all.
His miss at Boro felt like a shock, as he was clinical generally.

It's ok pointing out the way Tella took the ball down for the goal that ONCE but they tried that several times over the season and Tella mis controlled it the majority of the times.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 3:54 pmLiterally no player on earth bar prime Messi/Ronaldo continuously scores every game/every other game so I don’t really know where you’re coming at with that.

No doubting it was class but he isn't capable of it often.
His goal stats look better due to the flurry of goals he had in that run mid season, looks he was quality for us last season but I just don't think he's worth 15 million and have serious doubts he'd have an impact in the premier league.
No point pointing anything out at the end of the season we had several players missing and also had the team changed regular as the title was wrapped up so the form dipped it didn't dip due to Tella being missing
