Weghorst Reception
Absolutely stunned by the fans in Belgium singing “Weghorst is a W@nker” and then booing him onto the pitch.
Yes he’s been crap for us, yes you might have issues with how he left but bloody hell. If Kompany thinks he’s worth a chance (or, and more likely, we have nobody willing to take him so are stuck with him) then we all need to wipe the slate clean and judge him on the here and now in THIS system.
The thought of this happening at the Turf in a league game really worries me. The relationship between players and fans last season was incredible and possibly a key component of promotion.

Won't happen on the Turf.
Some fans just showing him what they think of him in a nothing game.

He needs support, not that today, regardless how one feels about him. Won't do anything any good getting on his back like that. Very disappointed....and it weren't the odd boo either, quite a number making themselves heard.

Fully agree Jedi, and as a rule, travelling fans seem to be the most sensible ones. Just as well it happened abroad and not the Turf and hopefully he will return from these friendlies with a couple of goals. It will also show how mentally strong he is

You're over in Belgium on the beer on a Saturday evening in the middle of the summer and you're watching Burnley have a kick about. I think it's just drunk lads doing what drunk lads do: entertaining themselves. Not a chance that happens in a proper game, and if it does, it'll be shut down at once.

With a dutch colleague and her daughters trying to explain why his fans are booing a Dutch international plus trying to translate some of the words shouted. Really am embarrassed sometimes to be a Burnley fan

I’m not a fan of Wout but we need to get behind him and give him a chance. If we barrack him we will affect his performance and are shooting ourselves in the foot. If he proves to be Shoite I’m sure VK will drop him.

Re: Weghorst Reception
Maybe these fans are just human, like Wout himself.
Like the tantrum he had at Watford away, or refusing to play for us in the English 2nd tier.. as it was 'beneath him'
Everybody can act inappropriate/get carried away.

Re: Weghorst Reception
Honestly if you're at a dreary away day you've spent all that time and money on you work yourself up over absolutely anything just to feel something. Nothing more disappointing than an away day with nothing to get your blood pressure up over. Even the rage of a drubbing is something felt. When everything is flat, you find ways of entertaining yourself.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:42 pmImagine spending all that money as well as time to be a bellend.

Re: Weghorst Reception
I don’t want to have to throw out my ‘true fan’ card but I’ve had a season ticket for 24 years and go to roughly a third of away games…I don’t need to have been in Belgium tonight to know that booing a Burnley player and calling him a ****** is very, very poor.
Strange take from a sensible poster.

Just saying that he was honest enough to admit being less than 100% committed a that time.
I don't think the average fan is particularly interested in an agreement made by a player with the chairman, I guess that was a pre-condition of his signing for us.
Re: Weghorst Reception
I mean to be honest if anyone deserves it it's Wout. Not that anyone deserves it. But I'm just saying, if anyone did deserve it, it'd be him. But he doesn't deserve it, just to be clear. But if anyone did....

The average fan is best not to comment then if they don’t know what an agreement a player has. At the end of the day he’s back, for how long nobody knows, whilst he’s here the fans need to support the whole squad, he’s comfortably the best striker at the club right now so we will need himboatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:50 pmDid I say I thought it was OK?

I just think the whole loan/bring him back was never going to work. Hopefully a lesson learned for Alan and the team.
I shan’t boo him but he’ll never be a player I can fully get behind now.

Re: Weghorst Reception
I don't rate Weghorst and I hope we manage to move him on, but booing him onto the pitch and then abusing him is just shite.
Why go all that way, for a friendly, to boo and abuse one of your own players? Just bizarre.

It’s just plain wrong barracking and abusing any player pulling on the claret and blue shirt. It also makes us look like thick knuckle dragging northerners.
If Vincent trusts a player enough to put him in the match day squad then he should get our full backing. Shame on these idiots who did this today. Obviously drink played a part but inexcusable.

Just imagine signing for the club a matter of weeks /days ago, (as several of today's squad have), and then finding that our own supporters boo and abuse one of our own players. (One who might be integral to VK's plans).
