Re: Mission to Burnley
I thought that there would be more episodes than 4 and more than 3 hours 14mins
Re: Mission to Burnley
Jeez, I made the mistake of reading this thread before watching the trailer and was expecting something entirely different.
I can't believe people are getting so worked up about 5 seconds of a trailer showing the streets right next to the ground.

Series 2 and 3 are already being worked on. It's called mission possible. It looks at our rise to champions League football over the next two year period.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:40 pmI thought that there would be more episodes than 4 and more than 3 hours 14mins

I’m a bit annoyed that they didn’t show the beach if truth be told.

Re: Mission to Burnley
And Burnley's local fan base isn't just the town of Burnley either - there is all of the borough of Pendle for starters, which has some of the most stunning countryside and most picturesque villages in the region, rolling on into Yorkshire and Skipton, as well as in other directions Rossendale, Tod, Hebden Bridge etc.
But we all know that TV crews have tended to search out the most run-down parts of Burnley, hopefully the Sky documentary crew have had the time and the research to realise that there is more to the area than just those back streets (which are also part of the town and shouldn't be ignored either). Maybe Bank of Dave will have had a positive influence on them.
Given the rumours that quite a lot of this doc is about Pace and his family - then they have probably spent some time in the Ribble Valley which will have opened their eyes IF they came in with pre-conceived ideas of what the area is like.

And a few others I've missed off, not all that bad really is it
Just laughable when morons from places like Luton and South London sing the '**** hole' song.

They'll have a job finding one, there aren't any.
The ever growing number of people, even some from Burnley, who realise they were conned,
as events are continuing to show, are clearly intelligent, perceptive human beings.
I doubt they'll make good television.

Re: Mission to Burnley
The streets in Burnley are not made of cobbles, they are made of stone setts.
Re: Mission to Burnley
It shows some old streets right next to the ground. Wow. How on earth can anyone be bothered by that. The setting of the ground in amongst the streets with the hills behind is all part of what makes it special. I love walking through these streets to the ground.

Re: Mission to Burnley
I live in a terraced house …it’s fantastic. Solid, stone-built , relatively roomy and characterful. Not like my previous abode… a small, boxy flat (albeit worth twice as much) in St Albans, smack in the middle of smashed avocado/truffle oil country. I know which area has the most attractive surroundings too.

There’ll be people on here who live(d) or grew up in the streets some of you seem so embarrassed about. Have a word with yourselves.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to watching it. Timed perfectly with my holiday.

Re: Mission to Burnley
You need to portray the gritty northern town look that's what's enticing to the outside viewer, showing nice parks with pretty flowers & rolling hills the viewer might as well tune into countryfile or something similar.
Re: Mission to Burnley
If turf moor was in a nice part of town, but they kept filming the terraced streets, then there would be a reason to complain, but it's not, it's surrounded by terraced streets,so that's what gets filmed. It's the same with Goodison and Anfield, they always show the terraced streets that surround those grounds.
More often than not, during a live game at Burnley the commentators will always mention the countryside viewed over the top of the Bob Lord stand, so it's not all doom and gloom, its the reality of where our historic ground is situated.

Re: Mission to Burnley
Why would people want this to convey something that isn’t Burnley? Parking up on Mitella St (or, until shut, the grass car park at Fulledge) and walking to the ground has been my memory of going to Turf Moor since 1992. I would assume that’s the case, or very similar, for most Burnley fans. I love walking through the streets there to the game. Burnley isn’t anything more than what it is and it’s pointless pretending otherwise - the key is that the club and it’s ground are right in the heart of it and the one shining beacon amongst what is, truthfully yes, a town down on it’s luck needing investment.

That's true & there's no getting away from that, for love nor money you cannot magically make the terraced houses disappear.Nori1958 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 7:46 amIf turf moor was in a nice part of town, but they kept filming the terraced streets, then there would be a reason to complain, but it's not, it's surrounded by terraced streets,so that's what gets filmed. Re: Mission to Burnley
Burnley is Burnley and we should be proud of it so give your heads a wobble, I'm proud to say i was born and raised around the Turf before i emigrated, the only thing that as changed is the people. I hope they filmed up Towneley Park as it's beautiful place.
Re: Mission to Burnley
I'm hoping the series will focus on the main characters, Pace and Kompany, staff at the club, fans, players and the great job they have done in the past 18 months.
I'm hoping the story is about the club and it's rise back to the Premier League after relegation.
I'm hoping it will show Burnley in a good light because most of the town IS good along with most of its people.
That's what I'm hoping for.

What do some of you over-delicate types expect to see on ground level across the road from the Bob Lord stand? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain...

I've not seen anyone link the title of the doc and our chaimans religious beliefs yet...
Seemed faily obvious to me when the doc was first annoucned.
Mormons are tasked with 'missions' where they travel to foreign countiries to spread the word of the church in the aim of expanding. I know this comes up in the doc a few times, although it is mainly about the football club & the season, it does touch on the religeous side too.

That trip to Chelsea on the coaches funny as ……..my son, plus others bunked off school………..sky tv got on the coach and asked everyone to cheer as they walked down the coach…..my son plus others all ducked down to avoid the camera!!!!Bobzuruncle wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 6:37 pmWhen we played Chelsea in the league cup a few years ago I went on the coach from Turf Moor with my kids, it was a big thing and a great occasion for a couple of lads who had only seen us in the lower leagues (both had/have had season ticket since 6 hrs old). A sky cameraman got on our coach and started filming coming out of Burnley, past where the Mitre used to be, I was sat at the front and said to him “please tell me you’re not going to film terraced streets and leaking drains and portray an out of luck Northern town” he said yes actually he was and apologised but said that is what is expected.
I am hoping we’ve moved on a little bit on this one but not holding my breath!
Ah, good memories!!

Taking onboard some of the notes above I think that the new program probably does have more of a license to portray the state of the town rather than a one off match and the exodus to our great capital

They could have used music with a connection to the local area in the opening sequence; Chumbawamba, The Milltown Brothers or, better still, The Hollies.

Re: Mission to Burnley
It will be criticised whatever they do. Hard to believe that at one time we would have been happy with a small paragraph on a teletext page. It would have been mentioned in the pre-match pub. Nowadays, a TV miniseries, that will receive worldwide coverage, is rubbished after viewing a 30-second clip. Some of you have turned into the most negative and miserable fans around.

The best pic to depict the Turf and show positives is to go to the upper reaches of the JH and take a pic showing the view over the BL. I doubt there are many views better from a ground in this country.

So far we’ve had this programme slated when it was first announced for potential Mormon evangelism, and now for a perceived negative portrayal of the town now we know its launch date.
All without anyone having seen an episode.
Tune in on the broadcast date for four pages slagging off the theme tune and font used in the titles.
