Was a good bit of play that as well, absolutely sliced through their press and a good quality run from Amdouni
That was true quality play from Amdouni

From listening to Phil Bird, it sounds like "Marns" scored three today.
Bare minimum would be to pronounce the opposition's name correctly you'd have thought.

If VAR had rightfully allowed our equaliser the pattern of play would change and they wouldn't have scored those two goals. So the result should be 1-1, panic over.

I couldn’t stop singing “Dean Marney” all afternoon.

Can’t think of anywhere “Mainz” would be pronounced as it has been this afternoon.

Muric looked up for the challenge.
Beyer looks like a world class cb in the making.
Al Dak continues to grow in confidence.
As does Twine.
JRod look sharper than last year, and Zarouri looked a touch more aggressive.
Amdouni and the Italian kid both looked like cracking additions.
Cork did OK as did Roberts and the kid (Dodgson?) at left back.
Foster is having to spend too much energy rooting round for the ball..nothing much came his way from midfield.

There was a lot to like today....and a lot of mince on here, just like the same time last season.

And the offside given against Koleosho not long before their goal, when he was in our half when the ball was played to him.

Sounds about right unfortunately.

Is that 5 or 6 pre season games he failed to bag a goal as well?

most strikers struggle to score if you don't create enough chances. Andy Cole scored on average something like 1 in 6 chances that were created for him. Twine missed a simple chance today, it happens.

Not one of our forwards has scored against decent opposition; more to it than a player being as you say "pony".

He had chances against Burton and Benfica which he wasted.

As I say, didn’t see him today so don’t know if he was lively or not.

Using Foster as a deep lying 9 doesn’t play to his strengths, he’s all pace and power and since he’s arrived in Jan I don’t think we have played to his strengths once, that’s why jay rod looks better in the 9 role

I think now with last season and the pre season games he’s bagged 1 in about 20 appearances.

Is it everyone else we are blaming for his poor return? Is it his finishing? His movement not to get into scoring positions?

he works hard but we clearly aren't playing to his strengths - he is rapid but we are asking him to drop and whilst that creates spaces for overlaps it's not doing him any favours because too many fans are judging him only on 'goals'. Not saying he will or wont be good enough, I just think he is being unfairly judged by a few too many at this point.

Is that not what strikers are usually judged on?

I know Barnes didn’t get too many either but he put himself about a lot and ruffled feathers for other players to punish teams.

I don’t see what Foster brings to the party myself.

Kompany has said that the striker doesn't need to get the goals, if they come from elsewhere. Look at how we played last season. We must have some sort of record for goals scored/points accumulated but with the lowest scoring strikers.

footy has completely changed and as you saw last season our goals came from everywhere, so no, strikers shouldn't be judged by just their goals

I don’t see what Foster brings to the party myself.
It's very much a wait, see and hope with him imho. You either trust VK to get things right or you don't, there have only been a couple of signings that haven't worked out so far and if you consider we've signed what feels like 100 players it's not a bad record !

😆 I was wondering when you’d show up.

I assume you are pleased with Fosters performances pre season and it’s filled you with confidence?

He had a decent 15 minutes against Benfica (and still wasted two good opportunities mind). Other than that, from what I’ve seen he’s been pony.

Yes, but the key here is building up play by accurate passes into the target man (9). We didn't do it today.

What a d!ck the Rovers fan is to come on here without watching the match just to have a go at Foster, what a sad and desperate need for attention.

Tbf it’s a pretty common phrase in London , certainly with the 35+ whites , though they tend to spit it out like us northern monkeys say “ total Shiite “

Weghorst - Rumoured to be going to Roma. Man United and Roma in the space of a year, but some people think he's a bad player.

Benson - Injured

Cullen - Injured

Still think we need a striker, I don't see Rodriguez, Weghorst, Foster getting many between them.

We look really limited and lightweight in midfield with Gudmundsson and Brownhill.

I thought Roberts looked good at left back today, tucking infield narrow but then we don't have a right back to bomb forward with quality consistently. Taylor is not the answer, hoofs it to nobody far too often, this isn't Dycheball anymore.

I'd try move Bastien, Churlinov(loan) Weghorst, Rodriguez, Foster(loan?), Brownhill, Gudmundsson, Taylor on. Obviously keeping one of the three strikers, whichever attracts the least interest. The squad needs trimming.

Happy to report that the wurst, spicy and plain were both excellent as were the potato wedges. The brezel was pleasingly warm and salty (quiet at the back) and the beer went down very well if a little hoppy

Was at the match, performance by-and-large was decent, we just really missed the end product either through a bit of unluckiness or some bad decisions. Amdouni looks like a proper player though, he carved their defence apart 2 or 3 times when he came on. Luca looked good too in the first half, one or two mistakes but nothing to write home about.

Only thing I really noticed was the amount of miscontrolled passes from our lads. Gotta be a sharpness/match-fitness thing, but it easily happened at least 8 times that a ball was pinged to someone (multiple people guilty of this) and they received it, lost control and ended up pirouetting trying to find it. These things happen, but it resulted in a lot of broken down moves that could easily have resulted in chances. Again, nothing to worry about for pre-season.

That being said, VK is wrong about the offside goal not being offside. I was sat right in line with the ball and the linesman got it spot on. It was millimeters, but my mate and I both went "Damn that's tight, he's gonna call that offside" and immediately the flag went up. VK was across the pitch diagonally and would have not had a particularly clear view of it.

Still, all in all a promising performance from our new lads. As I said, Amdouni looks like he's going to be a handful for a lot of defenders this season!

😆 I was wondering when you’d show up.

I assume you are pleased with Fosters performances pre season and it’s filled you with confidence?

He had a decent 15 minutes against Benfica (and still wasted two good opportunities mind). Other than that, from what I’ve seen he’s been pony.
What were your thoughts on West Brom today, did you feel they deserved a point?

That's a bit drastic.
I think VK is ruthless, the squad needs trimming and we've got some who aren't quite at the required standard VK will want imo.

🤷 no idea, no interest in their game whatsoever.

Now you've really exposed yourself as a 'stard.

I'm sure we'll see some leave, but perhaps not all our No9 options.
