Wolves Manager

Post by dandeclaret » Mon Aug 07, 2023 7:44 pm

Reading a few mates twitter updates - looks like they will be needing to appoint a new manager - seems Lopetegui has gone.

The more clubs in turmoil, the better.

Not surprised. There were strong rumours he’d be off at the end of the season but seemingly resolved differences with the owners, but they’ve had a terrible summer.

Gary O’Neil would be a good appointment though. Did a fantastic job at Bournemouth.

Add this to Sheff & Luton having poor windows, Everton not looking much improved, Fulham loosing Mitro, Bournemouth gambling on a new manager.

Any ounce of stability will see us safe this season.

Mitrovic more than likely staying now.

It's a shame for Wolves. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for them after experiences with them before and after the Sherpa Van Trophy Final, but the manner they went up under Nunes(?) had me wanting to follow their fortunes in the top flight.

It's gone so badly wrong, so quickly.

We as Burnley fans need to be mindful of how quickly things can go sour

It’s a shame their fans thought it was a good idea to say they were going to be a top four club

The owners originally stated they had a 5yr plan to reach the champions league I think
They got off to a good start and then China turned off the taps for money leaving the country and this is where it’s gone wrong for Wolves, amongst others like one of the Milan clubs.

Lopetegui does in fact have previous form of leaving a job on the eve of a major competition about to restart. He announced on the eve of the 2018 World Cup in Russia that he would be quitting as Spain manager to take over as manager of Real Madrid once the competition was over. He was then sacked on the spot and replaced by Fernando Hierro.

Bit of a strange one is this.
Obviously leaving because of a lack of funds, but the timing ?
Have the club been stringing the manager along ?
Presumably the club need to sell rather than buy due to FFP, but if they knew this and knew the manager would leave why wait until now.
The only reason may be spinning the new manager a yarn but then running out of time to sign ( intentionally) players for the new manager.

O Neil is a good manager but will struggle with a depleted squad.
Definitely one of the relegation favourites.

O’Neil did a decent job at Bournemouth in keeping them clear of trouble but he was given money to spend and signed several quality players in January. At Wolves seemingly it will have to be free transfers.

I think the writings been on the wall since they sold Raul Jimenez, Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins and the release of Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho. They are in for a struggle this season.

Wolves can dress this up all they like but it can't be good news when your manager leaves four days before the season kicks off.

Traore is still without a club isn't he? I'm surprised we haven't been linked with him given the number of wingers we've been after this summer! Good player on his day but his end product is regularly below par.

Too often no end product from him - I think his pace always had you thinking he was better than he was

Still feel Traore is a Premier League standard player and young enough to improve.

Allardyce had enough of a niche of coming in to try and battle relegation, but has O'Neil now established himself as the man to go for if your existing manager has a hissy fit over Budgets?

Apparently his wages are reasonable, but the lad you have to pay to open the gate when he's on a run is on a fortune.

I’m not sure the club is willing to cough up for the oil he covers himself in for games
