Heads up - M65 J9
Road closure started yesterday, apparently for 5 weeks, at the roundabout by Network 65.
It's a 4 way traffic light system (ie each direction in turn) and therefore it takes an age to get through. Took my son-in-law 40 mins this morning to get from home near George IV to Network 65.
I'm sure that I've read somewhere on here that the advice to get to games from that direction is to exit the M65 at J9 and come into town up Rossy Road and down Tod Road because of the difficulties with road closure in the town centre.
I would give this advice a second thought tbh.

Isn't that the junction the club have advised fans to use on Friday night?

I work on Burnley Bridge Business Park and it was a massive pain in the @rse getting out yesterday. Cba with it for the next 5 plus weeks.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Well that’s well planned seeing as the club said this last week
Information for supporters attending Manchester City fixture at Turf Moor
Burnley’s first game of the 2023/24 Premier League season against Manchester City is fast approaching.
Due to take place on Friday 11th August, kick-off 8pm, the Club wish to remind supporters of the ongoing roadworks in and around Burnley.
Major roads in and out of Turf Moor are affected by the ongoing improvements. Supporters will be directed to leave at Junction 9 on the M65 and to follow diversion signs to the stadium.
Please note, Yorkshire Street will be closed to vehicles but open for pedestrian access. We strongly encourage supporters to plan your route in advance and leave plenty of time for your journey.

I have sent an email to the club in case they were not aware of this issue.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
And cones have re-appeared going up Rossendale Rd past the new housing estate. Down to one lane.
Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Bloody hell, this has effed up my journey coming from Blackburn after work. Be surprised if I make kick off! Thanks for the heads up.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:05 pmRoad closure started yesterday, apparently for 5 weeks, at the roundabout by Network 65.

Sometimes, it is as though there are some who plan for maximum disruption!

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Deep in County Hall one suspects, if such a responsibility still exists. Such problems would
never have existed when Burnley was the Highway Authority.
Regular planning was made at a senior level involving all Statutory Undertakers etc. And the Council had a veto other than for emergencies.
What really annoys me is that the fencing and signing is sub contracted and is never adjusted when it could to minimise congestion.

Is it not worth staying on to the Brierfield exit12 and either coming off or spinning around to exit 11?
Out of touch so just asking.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
It took me thirty minutes this morning to get from Accrington road up to the roundabout to turn into Network 65 business park. Hundreds of drivers were inconvenienced. To add insult I could only see just one guy in a high viz jacket carrying an ipad. Left tonight at 4:20 ish and no LCC or any other employee in sight. LCC obviously don't place any value on the needs of road users or the problems caused. If you go that way expect a rather novel system of cones and traffic management around the roundabout.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Not sure if it is still closed but the slip road at 8 coming off from the Blackburn direction was shut on Sunday so I had to use J9 to get to Padiham. If these are ongoing together it will be some s***storm they have concocted. Is 8 open now?

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
One might almost conclude that those in authority are quite deliberately seeking to make private motoring as difficult as possible
Re: Heads up - M65 J9
That might not be far off the mark. I've been saying for a long while that the timings of roadworks are purposefully timed due to jealousy & hatred.Claretnick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 5:18 pmLancs County Council HQ based in Preston. Don’t all be coming via Rossendale and Tod Road it will snarl up the traffic on my normal route to the ground ‘only saying!’Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:05 pmRoad closure started yesterday, apparently for 5 weeks, at the roundabout by Network 65.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
We're heading in from Darwen but have to pick somebody up from
Padiham so going to risk the Padiham exit (J8) and then head up Rossy
Road or along Accy Road.
Should be fun so setting off about half five.
Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Not a bad shout. Think I'll take the grane road to Rawtenstall, then head to Rossy Road through Crawshawbooth.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 8:22 pmWe're heading in from Darwen but have to pick somebody up from

Traffic building up at Junction 8 (Padiham) Eastbound on the M65 at 5:30 pm today. Other lanes looking slow.
Prepare for a bit of disruption on Friday.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Not yet, give it time !!!
Seriously though - no not really I don't suppose. It's just I think they're trying to
avoid the town centre which, the way things are going, will be the least busy. It's
very much pot luck as it stands.
Don't forget as well, most of the away fans will be approaching from that direction too.
Re: Heads up - M65 J9
I would normally come off there, go down towards town, then past the crown courts towards Burnley wood area, I couldn't really see why the closure of Yorkshire st would stop that, but I haven't been to Burnley since the last gameFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 5:50 amNot yet, give it time !!!

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
For those travelling back out of Burnley on Friday night it may be worth checking there are no scheduled closures on the M65 on Friday night. I’ve been caught three times in recent months with late closures when returning from work events. Tends to be specific sections ie between junction 6 and 7 etc but the diversions are a pain in the arse.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Whilst they are at it please can they get the Kierby roundabout back to 2 lanes. There's no work being done for the time being and no reason for single lanes on it and therefore on the approaches.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 4:43 pmBurnley FC Police reporting that the traffic lights at M65 Junction 9 will be removed ahead of Friday's game
LCC would have to pay Ventbrook to sort out the signs and barriers, but the congestion already being caused is ridiculous.

Re: Heads up - M65 J9
Had a message from my son-in-law that the roadworks at J9 have been
removed and traffic flowing as normal.
Only temporary apparently, to resume as planned next week, so be aware folks.
Looks like the club may have had some influence on this.
