When was your first served beer?

At a guess it was either at the Turf Hotel or the Broadswords aged 17 , I remember yer one behind the bar got feed up with us one night and would only serve us half's .
Do recall you could get 4 pints of Toby Light for a £1 in the Waterloo .

At 16, me and three mates discovered we could regularly get into a few Working Mens clubs where, Phoenix Nights style, they generally an old bloke on the door who took the money, asked if we were 18, signed us in and in we went.
The best Friday nights out we had at that age were at the club in Cotton Tree Lane in Colne when there'd be a comic on and er, exotic dancers. However "exotic" they were or not didn't really matter to us....
Football the following day either first team at home or, if not able to follow them away, the Mighty Central League.
Cant remember the price of a pint then but my first pint at college in Bradford was 11p.

Mine was also in the Talbot a tad later in 73 I was 14. 17p for a pint of mild. Jeez. I was also at St Teds but never taught by Biddy as I wasn't a top scholar like you obviously were?

Not me, Biddy was a teacher for the gamma stream so us proper clever lads never had him. I'm certain I would have been a frequent target for one of his blackboard duster missiles though.

Ah the shepherd first pint in the UK after 3 years in the US. Think it was Yorkshire tetleys which was better than Lancashire tetleys.

I can honestly say ive never bought a beer in a pub in my life. I don't drink and the first time I went in a pub I was in my late 20s. Drinking never interested me in the slightest, I always think people who drink pint after pint must be very thirsty

Its actually frightening over a lifetime how much we spend on the booze. I do love a good pint but its bloody extortionate to go out these days. We compete so much more now on our leisure time with many sources outside of the pub.

Friend of a friend is a non-drinker, still comes out with us and stays for a few hours, on a water or a coke, occasionally gives us a lift back. Bought her house a few years ago, no kids, mid-high income, doesn't drink or have lavish lifestyle and has paid if off already in her mid 30's.

Weirdly, I never went back to that pub again and don't think I've had Murphy's since.

I had a school friend when I was at rosehill junior then Towneley high school whose Dad was the landlord through 60s and 70s so went in lots never bought a drink there but do remeber getting the odd small glass of beer.

Will have been early 2000's when we went up there. My best mate was the sous chef up there so there was a group of us that went up at weekends and sat in the corner with a pint each. Was always good when they had a function on though.

I remember it because I'd been talked into going out with my Saturday team Craven Heifer in Rawtenstall after a solid win, which were pretty rare. England beat Germany 5-1 and joined a few of the lads for a meal at Beau Binis on Bank Street after. These lads have now become my best mates.
It was a John Smiths, as my dad drank it and I though it was normal......
Probably my only ever pint of John Smiths!!!

I'm talking mid 90's so I suspect it was a little different by then!! It was a really friendly pub run by lovely couple. Sadly the landlord was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in the late 90's though. It stayed open for a couple more years before being sold onto developers and is now a house (as are so many in Todmorden now). I remember doing a 24 hour "pool-a-thon" with the rest of the pool team to raise money for cancer research. I can confirm that once you get into hour 17 of playing killer it stops being fun

Graham lives in France now and Pat spends a lot of time in France but lives near Cambridge.
