When was your first served beer?
March 1978 at the age of 14... Went with mates to see Saturday Night Fever which was X-rated, unit-4 Brierfield. As we got in we chanced a half and got served.
After we went to the Wigglesworth Arms next door and bought my first PINT.
Then off to the Baltic and Old Duke, only to be turned away... Wiggies became a regular.

Re: When was your first served beer?
I'm not making this up, but fantastically, and appropriately, in the New Delight Inn in the hamlet of New Delight up above Hebden Bridge in June 1975 when I was 14 (15 in September 1975). I was in the company of 'responsible' adults so it was vaguely legitimate. Become a routine thing thereafter, my £1 would see me right for my round (for three of us), pie and peas and a game of shove ha'penny in The Ram in Cliviger or similar. Mis-spent youth, moi?

Re: When was your first served beer?
It would have been the Derby in Nelson, straight across from Oddies bakery and i would have just turned 16. I started as an apprentice in July 1984, the first couple of days i worked were as a 15 year old until my birthday. Summers were typically quiet and early finishes were the norm (as were early starts come to think of it!) so it was across to the Derby with some of the older lads and with your typical teenage bravado stepped forward and ordered a pint of bitter please.
If we are talking a beer specifically rather than in a pub, Patels off licence on Barkerhouse Road was always a good shout for an under age can or two. "don't drink them near my shop" was the instruction from the shopkeeper.

Re: When was your first served beer?
Can't remember how old, but I walked up to the bar at the Manor Barn and, having seen it in soaps, casually said to the bartender, "pint please".
The resulting "a pint of what?" question completely threw me and my overage ruse was over.

1983 Shooters Arms Nelson. Great pub, spent a lot of youth playing pool, having a few beers and then the long walk down Barker.

Talbot; 1968; age 14, almost 15; in walked Messrs Langstaff and Kelly. They said nothing but I got called to see Mr Kelly the following school day and received 4 strokes of his finest cane - and he had quite a few to choose from.

Tried my luck in the Hare and Hounds, Harle Syke. 1977 when I was 16 and looked 14. Landlord replied, "does yer mum know your out?" Brilliant red face and the laughs of the locals ringing my ears as I scarpered. Miserable devil.

Re: When was your first served beer?
The Inn Plaice, Burnley. Must've been 1980-ish because I was in the third year at Walton.
Went to the heavy metal night on a Thursday followed by rock night on a Sunday - last bus back, dropped off at Hour Glass and a nice walk up to the top of Walton Lane.
Round about 81/82 broadened my horizons to include:
Jimmy Nelsons
The Great Marsden
Shooters
Broadswords
Talbot
That metal pub on Standish St?
By '82 went anywhere including El Trop ...

Re: When was your first served beer?
15, at the Waggon & Horses in Clitheroe accompanied by a Steak Canadian & Chips ... to be fair I was nearly 16, 6ft 2ins and about 15 stone, could easily have been 18 ... thereafter, various Rugby Clubs all over the North-West, Annabella's, Cavendish Club in Blackburn. Buying my first legal pint in early December 1981 seemed to take some of the fun out of it ...

Likewise I ordered 'a pint of beer' and was turned on my heels and asked to leave the premises.
Another pub and plan B.

Re: When was your first served beer?
Circa '71/72.
Both me & my mate had wagged school to go poaching trout and, we had a beer at the long gone Station Hotel in Millers Dale.
We were so obviously underage but, even back then that place struggled for business after the rail line went a few years earlier.

Re: When was your first served beer?
September 1977, Lane Ends in Lowerhouse. Me and my mate, both just turned 16, elbowing each other as we approached the bar, bumfluff on top lips, and chins. “ 2 pints of Stones”, I confidently said to the barman, “ Barrels, or Schooners”? he replied. “ No, STONES”, says I . He shook his head, held up a Barrel, and a Schooner, and said “ which”? He must have known, but served us anyway, and we drank in there regularly till we spread our wings into Burnley centre, and The Talbot. We still laugh about that night in the Lane Ends nearly 50 years on.
Re: When was your first served beer?
1987-88 at Betteshanger Rugby Club in Deal, Kent. They wouldn’t let me drink Lager because that was for footballers so I had Stones bitter. Have preferred bitter ever since.

The tap room which was at the rear of the Prairie pub.
Me and a mate from school, nervous as hell.
Thought everyone was watching us , which they probably were.
Plain sailing after that.
