Paddy Power advert
Re: Paddy Power advert
I have to be honest but I just don't get it!?
It's a little bit funny I guess but it's just made up crap really isn't it? No one actually thinks this stuff, what's the point of it?

Re: Paddy Power advert
Made up? This messageboard has had people questioning the style, comparing it to Dyche, complaining about Muric, wondering where the goals are going to come from, suggesting Taylor at left back, moaning about Roberts not overlapping...
People may think it's not funny and the accent... fair enough. But it definitely has more than a bit of truth to it.

I’m a huge Dyche fan but it would be hard to argue against ‘rigid and direct’ characterising a large part of our football under him.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 4:48 pmI know that but it’s all the same ignorant bo0ll0cks.
& btw for anyone that’s bothered, i’m not ‘offended’ more unbelievably bored of that depiction.
Surely can do something a bit better?

It's called satire. Maybe the ones on here that struggle with that concept are the ones that moan the most about of it. Or maybe I'm a bit more thick skinned than most on here?
Harmless, tongue-in-cheek fun, by a firm known to use this for their marketing. Could have been one made at Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds and we'd all have a cheap laugh.

Exactly, its just cheap tongue in cheek shite football banter, hardly worth people getting upset about it.
Have a laugh, shrug it off and next week it'll be someone other team.

Actually thought it was mildy amusing , it’s so tongue in cheek and typical of your generic old school fan who’s never happy . It seems to have offended a few curmudgeons and quite a few of the giddy “ when’s the next reveal video “ types too , which can only be a good thing .
It’s a bit of harmless fun get over it

No it doesn’t and it’s cringeworthy.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:50 pmWhy is it embarrassing?
It’s in line with all their other fan denial type stuff, pick the obvious stereotype (which is present for good reason) and lay it on thick.
As said above, it represents a large chunk of this forum.

They've just made up a fan who is unhappy with Kompany to get a few laughs from the previous perception that we played Brexit ball.Pickles wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 5:16 pmMade up? I'd actually find it funnier if the specific things you'd mentioned were included and the parody was a bit more accurate. I'm not offended that they've tried to use us for a laugh I just think it's a bit of a crap effort that left me thinking what was the point?

There's a bit more to satire than getting one idea (in this case "Burnley fans are thick Northern idiots") and then hammering it with a sledgehammer for three minutes.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 5:19 pmIt's called satire. Re: Paddy Power advert
I actually think it would have made for a much better and funnier parody if the same fan had been hailing Kompany as the new messiah while sticking his Sean Dyche posters in the naughty cupboard to join the OC masks.

Honestly I think I’m seeing this way different to most of you. I think this is a subtle compliment about how we approach games now. Clearly that’s not a real Burnley fan, doesn’t even sound remotely like he’s from the Town.

a) Wrong accent although anyone south of Sheffield won't know that ...
b) If they'd have done it in conjunction with a few on here, it could have been a belter ... I was hoping he'd say " we've never really replaced John Deary "
c) Swearing unnecessary ..
Apart from that, mildly amusing ..

I read that as harmlessly Burnley FC have been so predictable for so long that fans don't recognise what they are seeing now with such great football, all with an ironic twist.
It's a compliment more than anything and a cheap laugh at second, I'll take it.
Watch what happens when they do a Fan Denial after Everton lose to Luton, same reaction from their fans. It's all a pisstake.

It's a brilliant advertisement.
If you don't get it , then it's not aimed at you.
If you don't like it , it's not aimed at you.
It's an advertisement aimed at a certain sector of the public.
Paddy Power don't give a monkeys if it offends a few ( or many ) people who will never be customers of theirs.
It's an advertisement to sell betting, full stop.

Absolutely spot on. My uncle who is an Officer in the Royal Marines in Landing Craft down in Hamworthy, Poole. Massive Burnley supporter but doesn't have a Burnley account. His son, my cousin has spent most of his life down south - Plymouth and now Bovey Tracy. Another big Burnley supporter. Listening to his accent, you would have no clue that he was from Burnley.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 7:20 pmDo ALL Burnley fans have Burnley accents? Not all Burnley fans have a broad East Lancs accent.

An observation from this and the transfers thread but Coolclaret is possibly the least cool claret there is.
Not in his dress sense or anything like that, I wouldn’t know he could be cool as cheese in that way but he gets awfully hot under the collar and anxious about things.
Maybe a name change to something like vexedclaret.
