Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Had a Haffners Steak and Kidney, Peas and Gravy in the fanzone today and it was hot and tasty. Really pleased with it compared to the luke warm one I had at the City game.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Definitely seemed quieter in the Bob Lord. Without a big queue I was tempted to get a pie but at over 4 quid I didn't bother.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Are they still £6.50? They need to be chucking some chips on as well for that sort of money.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 9:29 pmHad a Haffners Steak and Kidney, Peas and Gravy in the fanzone today and it was hot and tasty. They’re only £2.50 in the little butty shop across from the Park View.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
I boycotted it again, got my food on way to the ground,I'm not prepared to queue then get the overpriced fayre on offer.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
I haven't bothered going down for the last couple of games and realised I don't need expensive, crap tasting beer to enjoy myself. Quite the revelation, really!
Enjoyed the pitch side interviews with super Glen and Ian Cox instead.

I know not being able to have a splash of milk in your brew can be upsetting but let’s not say hurtful things we can’t take back!

It seems the food in corporate has improved dramatically since Levy took over, but is worse than ever for the normal fan.

All's good then, the average punters are mugs and will continue to turn up whatever you give them.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
We went for a half-time pint, just after Chelsea's first goal. We're in the Jimmy Mc Upper, at the Bob Lord end.
The queues (at the bar) at half-time have been ridiculous, all season. Yesterday was no exception. Longer queue than ever.
Previously 3 service points were now 2 service points.
However, they appear to have 2 people at each point, one taking orders, one only preparing drinks. This worked reasonably well, and the queue moved relatively quickly.
I'm not sure what's happened to the promised modern touch-screen ordering service we were promised. I'm not sure, however, how they will reconfigure the space. The upper tier concourses are incredibly compact.

All in place according to Russell Ball in his pre-season interview telling us it’s now like McDonalds.

Not in the Jimmy Mac it hasn't. Notwithstanding yesterday's profiteroles which were excellent, generally the fayre on offer has been inferior to last season. If I never see another hot dog again it will be too soonQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 12:25 pmIt seems the food in corporate has improved dramatically since Levy took over, but is worse than ever for the normal fan.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Only what I'm being told.
Lad who goes in the Longside corporate quite regularly says the food is far better this year.
Another mate with a ST in the newly refurbished Jimmy Mac corporate loves it.
Might enjoy the beer more though as he hasn't mentioned the food.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
All about personal opinion I suppose. I was in Longside corporate for the United game & the food was ok, though a friend thinks it's worse this season. I have an ST in Jimmy Mac corporate and it's a bit chaotic & noisy compared with last year.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 3:54 pmOnly what I'm being told.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
On the food and catering front there's Nothing I've seen in the Bob Lord to suggest we've moved forward.
Over-priced Hollands Pies, hot dogs, crisps, chocolate and half cups of coffee.
You'd have thought the American owners who've been in charge long enough now could have come up with a better range of fayre than that at a better quality and price point than what's currently offered.

You've got to hand it to the owners. People complained about the queues, so they made what was on offer more expensive and more inferior, thus reducing waiting time.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
From what I’ve read on here and from what I’ve seen on match days, it looks to be horrendous.
You would think that the issues are the responsibility of Levy and their on site management at Turf Moor rather than BFC although our point of contact has to be the club for supporters.
I saw a video last week desperately trying to promote the Jimmy Mac hospitality. I think I’d be expecting considerably more than a hot dog for that money which is what the video was promoting.
Russell Ball is the BFC man responsiblle for it. He was the one who was interviewed about it all pre-season when he said it would be like McDonalds on the concourses with self ordering units. I’ve not seen any.
I reckon he’s the person people should be contacting with complaints and issues. It’s not showing our club in a good light at all. Catering on the ground wasn’t good previously but this season that seems to have been taken to a new level.

The Americans invented fast food - you'd have thought they'd have brought all their fast food skills and culinary talents with them.

Lager only, JHU at HT
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Never looked at it this season until today as we were hungry having not eaten since breakfast. Went to the counter to ask what they served as there’s no prices or menu showing. Told to go to the screens for prices and choice which we did. Clicked on the prices, couldn’t believe the cost of a pie. We decided we were not going paying those prices and didn’t bother, famished when we got home. To be honest the choice and the whole lack of presentation at the counter was beyond poor. Not for us I’m afraid.

They’d ran out of lager for 15mins at end kiosk , Mather bar at 2.20pm and the smiling yet staggeringly clueless staff couldn’t even use another dispenser . Not sure rest of ground ,I’m talking Longside lower ,though it appears food sales ( dunno bout booze ) are down almost 40%!

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
£5.50 for a pie, coffee and twin last season.
£8.10 for the equivalent now
Pies worse, tiny self serving point for milk etc. staff still restocking shelves just before ht. they’ve had two weeks to do it!
I won’t be going on again. Til the West Ham game

Clayton’s so much better than the burnt outside/cold inside or soggy pastry/molten fillings of Hollands soup pies

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
My lad wanted a bottle of water at half time so about 10 minutes after the whistle I made my way down expecting a big queue in the JMU - but to my surprise I walked straight to the counter and was served immediately. Are people voting with their feet? Or are people going into the concourse earlier as lots of people seemed to be leaving their seats around the 40 min mark to my bemusement.
Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
I bought a burger at the van parked at the Dyche, 30 seconds to wait, when I got to the JHL and saw the queue at the kiosk but none at the screens I was so happy that I'd voted with my feet and wallet again.

I’m not shocked though. I’ve given up. Just hope some appalling sales figures prompts some improvements.

Has the price of the beer gone up now that the club have outsourced the catering and bar provisions?
I only ask because yesterday I bought someone a pint of Guinness in the Trophy Lounge in the Bob Lord and it was over £7 !!
He said that it was just over a fiver last season. Needless to say I didn’t buy him another.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
I think fans should boycott the bars at these extortionate prices, although it is difficult for us to do in the lounge as we need a beverage or two with our meal pre match.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 10:58 amBeer on the concourse went up 50p for Sam Miguel. From 5.50 to 6 quid.
Probably better to have a few reasonably priced “decent” beers in town pre match than paying over the odds for a mediocre pint in a plastic glass stood on a concourse.

Neck Oil is reasonably pricey. It’s around £5.50 a pint here in Shrewsbury. Padiham must have gone upmarket if they can get away with charging over £6 a pint for it. Maybe it’s becoming the new Whalley?

I know the Lawrence charges similar, but that's a wedding venue place.

My first ever local was the Bridge in mid 90s, when Joe and Mary had it.
Carling was 1.30 a pint and the pool table had a massive slant.

£2 per pint of high quality cask ale at the New Brew’m has for a while been one of the best value pints in the country.
For an ale drinker there really is no decision to be made.

Prior to levy taking over I’d have loved to see the club working with a local brewer and putting on its own beers. That way the money taken would’ve also helped support local jobs.
Since that’s not happening now, neck oil would be my beer of choice to see on the turf.

Re: New food/drink rules at the Turf
Well I won’t give a name but 2 separate food suppliers to the actual franchisee that now runs the food op ( match day “fresh-ish” perishable deliveries) have supplied 40% less than opening 3 match days . Though can’t speak for booze or soft drinks .
I have noticed more staff though ( agency ) and the queues are definitely smaller /quicker , so perhaps people may regain a bit of confidence ? I think a lot just can’t be arsed and it’s pretty steep price wise too. I’m persevering but only just !
