You can't start a game without a recognised LB
Vitinho caught out for 1st goal at RB and culpable for 2nd at LB
CM weak again - saw one stat where Berge had the fewest touches of any player in the 1st half - just 6
But hey that was City
VK said before the game that tonight would be our poorest performance of the season
Learn and move on
Well he was a wing back with 3 CBs, there was miscommunication for sure. Maatsen in that role would be superb, but we have to defend better.

Bit naive at times defensively but lots to be happy about. Beyer got a grip of him before he pulled up with cramp.

I would say it probably starts 21st October when we have an easier run of games
Why be so glass half-empty? We played ok today but were outclassed against a world class team.

We have a gap next week to give Vinny more time with the squad (rumours that Ramsey was there tonight). We all saw after WC what more time at Gawthorpe can result in.

We also play a Kane-less Spurs (who finished 8th with his 30 goals) and Villa who play away in the Conference League on the Thursday before us on Sunday.

Lots of reasons to be glass half-full. But tonight was a reality check

The only things I’m disappointed about tonight are the set-piece goals conceded, Zaroury’s red card and Benny clearly not fit. Oh yes, and the two idiot fans!

When I saw the starting line up with 5 new players starting I didn’t expect to get anything from the game. We showed tonight we are a young, naive team with loads of potential but we need to wise up to the premier league quickly: two poor goals from set pieces, some silly wasted passes (against the best passing team in the world), unlucky sending off, silly tackle but he wasn’t trying to harm a player, yellow in my opinion.
I think it’s a good thing we have two weeks to bed all the new players in before playing again. We need a left back or play Taylor; I think we’ll be okay for the rest of the season. Foster man of the match for me, so it must be time to loan him out to the Championship or League One, after all, he is pony.

Could have been worse. Number of positives-for me the biggest being Foster's performance. Still raw and rusty but one of our better players. VK has his work cut out. Desperately need a LB, as Vitinho strays too much from his main role. Prefer Taylor to him, but emphasises the need for someone of Maatsens quality

Thought Trafford looked sound and can see him continuing. Much work to be done as City were only in third gear most of the time. Lets hope a few sides lose by more than three goals this weekend

Was that a penalty? I was absolutely convinced it was in the stand but others around me didn’t seem so bothered?

I’ve seen them given but it would have been soft. With the new directive of allowing contact definitely not a penalty

Merely happy we didn’t ship 5+.

The PL isn’t about beating City. It’s about beating the crap teams down the bottom. Beat them regularly, and you’re fine.

Every time we’ve been relegated, we’ve been crap against the teams around us. Onto the next game.

Don’t know about the invader but for the first one it would be a change of tactic for them to throw a butane filled lighter at a footballer on the floor. Almost certainly one of our “own”

Lots of plusses. Nobody had a poor game, although they all made sloppy errors at times. We just looked like strangers but that will be cured.
I will hate until the day I die our keeper playing it out to Cullen, facing his own goal, man on his back and he has to play it to a guy in either FB position who has no options.

The lighter would have been orange not yellow.

On other things, very positive from nearly all players, all put a shift in.. vithino at leftback is not the answer for the season ahead ( or wing back, whatever you want to call it). The 3 centre halves performed admirably. Al dakhil is a rolls Royce of a player. Cullen and berge will form a strong partnership , Trafford at the moment for me is not the best goalkeeper. He will be long term but at present, muric beats him on quicker decision making and playing evenly spreading left and right and long ball pings. Foster looked good , but that’s the thing with him, there is so much potential, can it be unlocked, but definitely worth persevering with. Koelsho will be some player can only get better… amdouni needs to get up to pace with prem, but again so much potential.. benny worry’s me a little bit seems a very injury prone player but makes an instant impact when introduced…. Hopefully buyers injury is minor , worrying that he signalled 3 times to be taken off before he was. A player signalling is never a good thing..

But great to be back under the lights. Oh and zaroury innocuous foul , but both feet of the ground so deemed not in full control so under the rules straight red..

I vowed last night that if I read on here the words ‘reality check’ after a game against Man City that I would have to hunt down the poster and beat them to death with my bare hands.

So pauliopaulio, if you’d be so kind as to pop your address on here I’ll bob round this afternoon👍🏻

You don’t want to look at too many negatives when you are playing against the best team in the world. Defence won’t have to deal with Haaland every week, berge won’t have to try and man mark Rodri every week. One thing we do need to do better on is set pieces, you can’t gift any team goals from poor defending at set pieces

Here’s a bit of a reality check. We played the best ( and richest) team in the world last night and here’s a report on what the same team did to one of the other top teams in the world a few months ago:

Manchester City are through to the final of the Champions League after a 4-0 mauling of Real Madrid in the second leg of their se£mi-final secured a 5-1 aggregate win.

Bernardo Silva scored twice in the first half as Pep Guardiola's side overwhelmed the defending champions. Carlo Ancelotti's team tried to rally after the break but Eder Militao's own goal and Julian Alvarez's stoppage-time finish only reflected the gulf in class.

……… and Haaland had an off night.

This is the first time in 4-5 years where we have not been totally outplayed by City. Plus they got barely more than 3 chances and took all 3

Knowing Vinnie he will dissect where it went wrong, and this game will be good as any pre season. The defeat means we go under the radar as far as the media goes but that suits us. Because of our general play last night I dont fear anyone. WE just need to ensure we take the chances that come along to start amassing some points in games to come. The signs are there.UTC
