Atmosphere tonight
Thought the team were generally OK despite the result. Real encouragement for the rest of the season
Atmosphere though was properly lacking tonight I thought. The odd wimper of a chant but other than that it was pretty abysmal. I was expecting it to be rocking but it was very flat throughout. Disappointing to say it was our first game back in the Prem

I was watching it on TV obviously and a lot of the time it's hard to judge because they deffo turn mics down, but it did sound exactly the opposite of what Kompany asked for

Electric before the game, soon as they got the early goal it sucked the life out of it.

Well as they say it’s a game of opinions, as with all opinions some are informed , some are perception , some have no foundation and some do…. I would suggest you can work out which this thread is..

But a third minute goal does. Suck the life out of things and so maybe to be expected. Kompany is absolutely right to ask us to be the 12th man but you sort of need the team to give the fans something to feed off - keeping it tight, a goal, etc.

I thought it was pretty good, considering that we were knocked out of our stride so early. You really cannot expect an electric atmosphere given your playing against a team that keeps the ball so well. Crowd reacted well in my opinion when they were given anything in the way of encouragement. Yes I was on.

Re: Atmosphere tonight
It was decent early on in the upper longside (towards the CF) but letting their keeper hold the ball for 20/30 seconds with nobody pressing, sucked the life out of the crowd.
Re: Atmosphere tonight
Thats exactly right. Pity about that because I thought it was a poor goal to concede.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:11 pmElectric before the game, soon as they got the early goal it sucked the life out of it.

Re: Atmosphere tonight
Exactly that in my opinion. Noise beforehand was great (in my armchair via Sky) - they even had to cut away because you couldn’t hear the pundits.
Going 0-1 down in 4 mins against a team that normally batters us popped the balloon. It recovered and then they scored the second.
The fans (bar 2) were great

Thought it was OK first half for about thirty minutes or so. Plenty of noise in the JHU. The family stand joined in. Bit lame in the second half though.

Why do other teams’ supporters such as Palace and Forest not need something to feed off?NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:28 pmI was there and it definitely was not what Kompany asked for.

The atmosphere was fine, we get these threads after every defeat, it’s very tedious - thankfully there wasn’t many last season. The early goal knocked the stuffing out of us a bit but it kicked back up again. We might as well bump this thread after every loss.

Different situation. First game back in the Prem following a brilliant Championship winning season. We’ve got an exceptional manager who we will be lucky to keep for the next 2 seasons.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:57 pmThe atmosphere was fine, we get these threads after every defeat, it’s very tedious - thankfully there wasn’t many last season. The atmosphere was poor considering the context.

Re: Atmosphere tonight
I'll disagree with that, I've got a season ticket holder mate and we message each other during games and there were quite a few occasions last season when he said the atmosphere was crap and that was with us having a great season. I've seen the same said by others too so it can clearly improve, the question is how do we as a collective improve it instead of having a pop at each other about it ? When you look at how immense the scenes were during the parade the passion is certainly there from peopleSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:57 pmThe atmosphere was fine, we get these threads after every defeat, it’s very tedious - thankfully there wasn’t many last season. Re: Atmosphere tonight
Same as any club - just like we sing “You only sing when your winning” to other clubs.
It’s part of English football culture - we react to what’s happening on the pitch. The Italian’s commented on it in the Euro 20 final that they knew the crowd would get nervous if they got after us despite being 1-0 up.
In Germany they have cheerleader types of fans who don’t even watch the match - just get songs going. The atmosphere is crazy in the Bundesliga - but still prefer our spontaneous songs

Re: Atmosphere tonight
Maybe he was too busy on his phone to notice how good the atmosphere was in the main last year? Post above is correct / the atmosphere tends to reflect what happens on the pitch. City games are, generally, tedious, because they’re too good. When we got at them a bit in the first half, the atmos was strong, when they were knocking it around our box 40 times, it wasn’t. Not many stadiums in this country have a constant white hot atmosphere - try taking in a game at the Etihad, tonight was like the Istanbul derby in comparison. Even so called loud fanbases like Palace are hit and miss.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 12:19 amI'll disagree with that, I've got a season ticket holder mate and we message each other during games and there were quite a few occasions last season when he said the atmosphere was crap and that was with us having a great season. agree with most of that mate. We just love to have a go at anytime to do with Burnley on this forum don't we ... the town centre, the night life, the fans, the this, the that.
The atmosphere at the Turf is ok most of the time certainly better than most other grounds and it's great in CFS where I go. Other areas of the ground can join in you know if it bothers you so much.
I don't think anyone who goes in the CFS makes any claim about creating a special atmosphere, most are just normal fans going on the Turf, watching the match and singing a few songs.
So I apologise to the rest of the ground for not screaming my head off for the full 90 minutes last night to keep you entertained especially after the inevitable early goal from city and then watching them suck the life out of it.
We must try harder next time.

Re: Atmosphere tonight
It was City. A bogey team for us even in the third division. I groaned when we got them first just as when we invariably get them in the cup.
Having said that it’s the best I’ve seen us play against them, foster was our sharpest player and looked stronger than last season and the Bob lord did actually sing once which means some crackle must have been in the air.
It’s out the way now - any other game this season we have a chance (Etihad excepted) so we can do the razzle dazzle jazz hands atmosphere thingy then

Re: Atmosphere tonight
Think the early goal plus City’s ability to slow the game when needed with their superb skill on the ball and passing ability subdued the crowd somewhat. At times when we had the gall I thought the crowd got behind the players.
Just read this on BBC sports match report
“ Burnley, roared on by a passionate home crowd, never gave up but City's control grew more emphatic as the game went on,”

Listened on the radio as I got stuck in traffic on a long drive to Turf, the Longside seemed to get behind them, by 3-0 it's never going to be rocking
