50 years ago, I was there. Where’s the time gone ?.
No segregation in those days certainly got lively around us after we scored

Played the promotion team, that wouldn’t happen these days with all the changes. Was Uwe our only summer signing?. I can’t remember.

If it was a blue double-decker I was on it. Most of the windows upstairs were put through. After the game City fans were fighting with Burnley fans on the top deck when we got back to the bus. Someone had to get the police to remove them.strayclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:37 amPost match we were stuck in traffic right behind a bus full of Clarets which was being bricked. We had a good side but then when I was writing it and saw Mike Summerbee, Colin Bell, Denis Law, Francis Lee and Rodney Marsh. They had some outstanding players.ThaiClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:43 amThat was an impressive side

I was on the Kippax that afternoon too. I remember it being a beautifully warm, sunny day.
I'll always remember Colin Waldron's diving header for the goal. It was the first time we saw a free-kick routine which, in one variation or another, we worked to great effect three or four times that wonderful season. Did I imagine it or didn't we even work a variation of it during the City game a couple of months later when someone else (Paul Fletcher?) stole round the back to head in at the far post?
Fantastic memories from my youth

Re: ARTICLE: Waldron scores another trophy winning goal
Like a few on here I was on the Kippax with my brother and his mates. Wonderful execution of a well thought out free kick routine. We did score another v City at home a few weeks later but on that occasion City concentrated on covering the late run so while they did Paul.Fletcher pulled a double bluff by just running to an unguarded near post to head in the free kick.
Couple of notes of interest for me were that this game was played just over 13 years since we won the league there in 1960. The attendance then was 65,000, this game just short of 24,000. The other point is that City had two players in their starting line up for the Charity Shield game that were in their starting line up for the title decider in May 1960, Alan Oakes and Denis Law.

We also signed full back Willie Watson from Man Utd on a trial period but he left after a few Reserve appearances. In addition we re-signed a 34 year old Jimmy Robson as a Youth Development Player/Coach. Jimmy played as a centre half in the Reserves but was not signed as a First Team player.strayclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:59 amPlayed the promotion team, that wouldn’t happen these days with all the changes. I was these too. City's forward line were like a team of galacticos but we more than matched them for pure football. The manoeuvre for the goal always a classic.

First time I saw Colin was at Ewood, when I think he was making his Bury debut. 8th October1966 and Colin was sent off for kicking one of the home players up in the air. I knew then that Colin was destined to be a Claret.

CT mentioned in a previous article that the only player we signed besides Peter Noble was Tommy Walker from Stoke. Anyone remember him?

Re: ARTICLE: Waldron scores another trophy winning goal
We signed Walker for a month but that was it - I'd previously mentioned Jimmy Robson who had come back in as a development player, basically a reserve team coach who played, much as happens at some clubs now with their under-21 teams. I mentioned Robson in the Noble signing article back in May.sandy richardson wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 1:32 pmCT mentioned in a previous article that the only player we signed besides Peter Noble was Tommy Walker from Stoke. Re: ARTICLE: Waldron scores another trophy winning goal
The winner was one of my favorite all time Burnley goals. I vividly remember the City fans around us laughing at us when it looked like we had screwed up the free kick But they were stunned when Waldron made a perfectly timed run to head home the delayed cross. Simply brilliant in every sense.
