We don't need a high street anymore. More choice, better service, cheaper prices online

The Golden Egg.

Remember them from the 60s, rival to Wimpys and were bought out by Lyon’s group who owned Wimpys.

Not just convenient but also cheaper to buy online.
Certainly true that buying on line is often cheaper. I wouldn’t say the same for Amazon, in many instances, I think it’s actually more expensive.

I sort of accept it because of the choice and ease of ordering. Not good on my part really.

Soon there won't be a high street thanks to internet shopping.
It not just that is it. Superstores and these shopping parks have all contributed to the demise of some high streets. Where I live the High Street and local market are both very buoyant. Admitted there are quite a few Charity shops and coffee shops, but they are smart and busy and they are not chain coffee shops.

Maplins was an absolute rip off- they'd charge £20 for an adapter you could get online for £2.99

Wimpys (Though there was still one on the I.O.W).
They're still widespread in South Africa and when we were down there earlier in the year we tried one for'old time's sake'. It was bloody awful, it tasted like those tinned ones that used to be sold a motorbike race meetings and such... I couldn't even finish it.

The one shop i really miss - i don't do much shopping - is Maplins; you can buy all the stuff online, but too often I'm not sure exactly which component i want, so I have to buy two or three to be sure I've got the right one, or if it's something's expensive, buy, try and exchange a few days later.

He was a nice man was Malcolm, sadly passed away in the week before the country shut down in March 2020, he was 79. I am not certain on this but I'm sure he was involved at Burnley FC for a short time as a sprint trainer, probably under Adamson. I'm sure you are right with 1960 Olympics and he was definitely a 400 metre runner.

Dawsons on Standish Street was where I spent most of my Saturday afternoons as a Teenager. Trying loads of instruments then walking out with a couple of plectrums. Did my work experience there as well.

I think you are right regarding the sprint training at the club. Now you’ve mentioned it I remember him telling me about it.

I had forgotten about GH Mason & Sons so did a quick google and found that article... you got me thinking about Skipton High Street in the 70`s/80`s and Fred Manbys was the go to for that elusive hardware item ... Had one in Settle "Nuttalls" a few doors down from the Golden Lion towards the Police Station fantastic shops :)
