Climbing the table.

Post by No Ney Never » Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:27 pm

Since dropping to the foot of the table following our opening day loss to city, we're slowly climbing the table towards safety. We move up another place following today's results, only goals scored now keeping us in the relegation zone.
If we can avoid having to play a game before the end of this month, we could find ourselves mid table going into September. That's great progress.
All teams work on their off the ball game, but our off the pitch tactic appears to be another innovation from our brilliant management team. Wonder how long it will be before other managers catch on!

Or put more simply - if Everton beat Villa tomorrow by any score, (then Chelsea beat Luton.........)
So we're probably out of the bottom 3 going into next Saturday's games unless Everton and Villa draw, although I reckon there's a good chance of that.

Really can't see there being much in it.
Everton played well last week but can't score. They will - typically - be hard to breakdown.
Villa's defence was shocking last week, and now they've lost both Mings and Buendia to long-term injuries.
(It's fair to say though that the bookies don't fancy Everton, but they rarely fancied us under Dyche either.)

Good call.

Just Chelsea to beat Luton on Friday and we climb 🪜 out of the relegation zone. 👍

The way Chelsea played against West Ham yesterday that's no guarantee.

We're 17th! At this rate, Kompany could get manager of the month with such a turnaround!

I’m really positive about this season. VK is being backed by the investors and the team are young, passionate and fighting to win. Enjoy the season. I won’t be surprised to see a mid table finish….maybe higher. I don’t fear relegation.

Based on games against Brighton and Chelsea, both away. I reckon they’ll surprise a few this season, at home.

It’s far, far too early to be making calls like this. I fully expect them to go down but they’ll take a few scalps along the way.

They will take scalps as we did, I think their manager is very decent, but they look a long way short on quality and nous. We may be short on nous, but have far more quality in the squad.

A point against a good villa side takes us to 15th, that'll do at this early stage.

It looks like the relegation spots will most likely be decided between ourselves, Bournemouth, Luton, Sheff United, Forest, Wolves and maybe Brentford.

If we can beat Forest at home and the others home and away we’ll have 34 points ,another win and we’re safe ,simples .

Looking at the table now I think the top 9 now will all be OK. So at present it is an11 team relegation battle. In another 5 or 6 games it will probably be down to 8 or 9 teams perhaps. With the start we have had it will probably be Game week 25 or so until we can get ourselves out of that battle, hopefully. Not sure which Cup competition we win.

Everton? I wouldn’t be putting too much on yesterday’s win against a truly dreadful Brentford.

Without a shadow it should represent the easiest winnable fixture to arrive on paper so far , excuses can hold merit failing against man city & spurs etc, sooner or later you will meet teams you are expected to get something from.

Still reasonably confident we will end up around lower mid table. These young lads have played Man City and United now… they will be starting to understand they need to learn fast and that Kompany is saying what he is for a reason…

Still expect us to stay up with some to spare.

In the next five matches we play Luton, Brentford and Bournemouth. If we can win those it would leave us with ten points from ten matches.

From 12th downwards they look most likely to contest the relegation spots. Can't see either Palace or West Ham being anywhere near.

Be surprised if the teams 15 upwards are in involved.

We are as good as, if not better than, Forest.
Plenty of time to make an impression this season.

Not in depth we aren't, forest have the capability to cause upsets & have already run some teams close where we would be swept aside with ease.

Look at the table after 31st January 2024 for who's in a relegation dogfight. A lot can change with the Jan transfer window.
