On a train so just caught the last bit on my phone with a poor quality stream, but did the Spanish player who went down with a head injury not handle the ball when she went up for the header from the throw-in in the final seconds?
Just checked - it’s close but not handball

I personally think it’s a good thing that sexist posts are removed from the board. Each to their own though.

Those commenting on the ref, it's the same one who was dogsh!t in the semi v Australia ( she even gave a free kick against England in that one for the ball bouncing up off the ground and hitting an Aussie defender in the face 😂).

Spain the better team without doubt but the referee let them get away with falling on the floor and time wasting like we see every week in the men’s game.
In all other matches I have seen the girls don’t cheat by time wasting and wantin opponents booked.
They should have been down to 10 when a player deliberately kicked the ball away already on a yellow.
However if we had played another hour we would not have scored
One mistake by Lucy Bronze cost us the match

Probably wouldn’t have made a lot of difference but sometimes when a good decision goes your way it can spark a team into action. I’m referring to the second yellow that the Spanish no 18 should have received for kicking the ball away, it’s a text book yellow, I’m sure I saw the ref go to her pocket, realised she’d booked her previously then decided against it. Technically Spain were far better than us. We should have put James up at centre forward for the last 15 mins, she’s strong and technically good which may have caused them a few problems,

When fully fit, they are both about as good as each other.

For the euros, Spain had key players missing. For the world cup, England had players missing. Anyway, Japan were by far the best footballing side, but were overcome by the height/strength advantage of Sweden. They trounced Spain, remember.

As for the diving, as with many things, the women's game is behind the men's, but catching up fast. In the men's game, it was prevelant in Spain first, closely followed by Portugal and Italy (in Europe, anyway). Hopefully, it can be nipped in the bud this time around, because it is doing irreparable harm to the men's game, and there is not enough being done to even start irradication.

Not sure all blame can be apportioned to Bronze for their goal, we still had 7 players behind the ball.
I think the double change at the break was knee jerk, taking your best and only recognised striker off and expecting the same impact by the others was naive.

And for me, Lauren James flatters to deceive most times I've seen her. She is technically very good but lacks the awareness and off the ball work ethic players like Stanway, Walsh, Hemp and Daly have.

I’m sorry but I feel the same. A few minutes of extra time left and a Spanish player breaks through the centre. She has unmarked players to her right and left. Instead of passing, she decides to take on the two players chasing her, cuts in and just wacks the ball at one of them trying to get a glory goal. Painful to see.

Be careful Robbie. Someone abused me this week by daring to criticise the standard. I will put my neck on the line and say that boys under 17s level is better than the tripe the women have to offer.

The millions who watched it here in Australia would not agree with you. Sold out stadiums and in the media every day. Fast attacking football, very little of the Man City passing across the back four. Why do you think Ange did so well in Japan, at Celtic and will now try and emulate at Spurs.

There are a few incels rearing their very ugly heads on this thread.

I enjoyed the tournament and the women's team can definitely teach the men a few things about mentality and team spirit.

For me the question is why are the comparisons to the men’s game relevant or needed? It’s women vs women. No men involved. They don’t compete against men, and the existence of women’s football doesn’t impact the men’s game negatively. It’s not like the FA is thinking of shutting down the men’s game if the women’s league gets popular.

If you took your mate on Padiham vs Clitheroe and he spent the match saying “Burnley would wipe the floor with this lot” you’d get a bit sick of it. And if he said this every single time Padiham FC were mentioned, you’d start to wonder if he has a problem with Padiham

Premier League is very popular here in Thailand but as far as I could see there was no WWC on local tv.
I have a satellite dish which enables me to watch all Premier League games live as well as a lot of other sports ( not all at the same time !).
No WWC there either.

Woeism hasn't quite reached Thailand yet.

Thank Buddha.

So let's all get down Pleasington or Wilsons and watch your mates instead on a Sunday morning.

I'll have played at a better standard than them no doubt but wouldn't go round shouting that they're **** just because I didn't enjoy watching them

I watch quite a bit of women's football and that was a poor performance, gave the ball away far too easy.

Deserved to get beat this time unfortunately

I coached women's soccer in America back in 1977.
They certainly had a start on the rest of the world .
The girls (early teens) were extreemly competitive.
No time for losers !

Can people just be honest instead of being scared of disappointing the woke culture and just say that the football is utterly inadequate and not fit for purpose yet.

Can people just be honest and admit it’s nobody else’s fault that you’re unattractive to women and they won’t ever want you. No need to come on here taking it out on women’s football.

I sort of agree tbh, the women have had enough success that they can celebrate their accomplishments in their own right. No comparison to the men’s team needed

Why do you need to do that? Either don't rate it so don't watch (and don't need to comment) or watch, enjoy a competetive game of football and discuss.

If all you are going to do is say 'it's nowhere near the men's game' no wonder people think you have a problem. That's an obvious point but doesn't mean it doesn't have merit.

Fwiw I thought we were poor on the ball today. We were far too frantic and the Spanish controlled the game co pletely from about 15 mins in. We did well to keep it to 1, but we never really looked like scoring. Beaten by the better team but can't fault the effort and mentality.

I agree that it was a very poor England performance, but rest assured that they won’t get a media backlash reserved for the England men’s team when high expectations end in failure.

I never bothered watching it as it's never appealed to me, I've watched odd bits before but for no longer than 5 mins the standard just isn't there compared to the men's game & that opinion isn't based upon any dislike of the female species, I'm sure some people will like it & enjoy watching it & best of luck to them.

Honestly, a good few of you would be better served tidying up your appearance, smartening up your wardrobe, improving on your personal hygiene, and sorting out the lying and the inferiority complex rather than sniping at women on here. That won’t improve things for you. Only trying to help so feel free to ignore.

I wonder why folk who don’t like women’s football spent such a large chunk of the past month telling everyone they don’t like women’s football.?

I mean, there’s loads of sports I don’t like or don’t watch, but I can’t say that I spend a great deal of time talking about them or explaining myself.

It’s almost as if women’s football in particular makes them angry. I wonder why that is?

Nobody is suggesting Padiham or Clitheroe are better than Burnley and if there are any comparaions, context is applied.

When it comes to women coverage the difference is, as a football fan, you can't criticise it as there's an agenda in the media peddling that the standard is actually comparable to the men's game. Think otherwise, it's sexist.

Can you imagine pundits, sports journalists or experts daring to criticise an elite female player in the same why they do with Harry Maguire, Dele Alli, Patrick Bamford, Lukaku or David De Gea for instance? There would be twitter outrage.

Which bits of the media directly compare women’s football to the men’s game? Can you provide examples?

Your last paragraph, do you mean if they criticised an elite player based on performance, in context with other women players? Because I think that would go down fine to be honest.

If you mean the same kind of media campaign where someone like Alli or Maguire gets pelters in the media way, way more than any other (and worse players) for no apparent reason, then you have a point. People wouldn’t like it. Rightfully so imo, you’d think Harry Maguire is the worst CB in the world for the stick he gets. Some players just get targeted for some reason. It’s not the best side of football journalism or fan culture

What does woke actually mean? No ulterior motives in asking the question, I honestly would like to know. If anyone can answer I would appreciate it
It is someone, in this instance, who fears stating the truth in case they upset certain people or groups. You are probably one of these by your response.

Ah ok, thanks. I’m assuming you mean I’m the latter (one of the people or groups who someone is afraid of upsetting)

That’s a shame really because I’m personally more than happy to discuss something I don’t agree with, without getting upset about it. People shouldn’t have to self-censor for fear of offending someone, with obvious extreme examples of racism etc. But on the other hand, if you state an opinion publicly you should also be prepared to have someone question it.
