Wow we are praising one of our young stars, and Cool Claret has eloquently outlined why he is one for the future, and some fans dont approve of the praise. Its not as if we have been spoiled with good players coming through our youth teams

well, I've re-read the thread and can't find a single person disapproving - what am I missing ?warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 10:41 pmWow we are praising one of our young stars, and Cool Claret has eloquently outlined why he is one for the future, and some fans dont approve of the praise. Re: Michael Mellon
Another goal yesterday in the Cup.
Just to be clear about this in the current maelstrom on the board: Michael Mellon's progress is extremely praiseworthy but absolutely not linked to our situation in the PL. Those of us pointing out how he's doing are just pleased one of our young players is doing well out on loan. Full stop.

Re: Michael Mellon
The young lad would appear to be too good to stay it hid current level much longer.
Looks like he's one of the best players in the league.
He's having a great season and hopefully he continues to progress.

Re: Michael Mellon
Radio Lancashire said he went off injured, if I heard correctly on Saturday. Has anyone got any more info?
Re: Michael Mellon
I agree, if we're back in the Championship have a good luck at him over pre season and see if we can use him in our squad.

Re: Michael Mellon
Checked the player list and he is older than Koleosho, Odobert and I think even Jude Bellingham. I havent seen him play but protecting him with a League One or Two loan because of his age seems a bit wide of the mark! I agree with Falcon on this.

Re: Michael Mellon
Another two goals on Saturday. I can't think of a loan player from us that has been this successful at the host club. I'm talking relatively and not at what level they are playing. 16 goals in 20 I think. well done.

Re: Michael Mellon
I watched all his goals last night on the Morecambe YouTube channel. He’s a finisher right enough. And I know the physicality is much different but those games where we had one chance and should have gone in front (Jay most recently but there’s others) he would have slotted those away.
Re: Michael Mellon
Surely hes proven himself at league 2 now. We prpbably need to find him a club in thr league above for the last 6 months of the season. Then we can get a better gauge as to what level hes at for next season.
If he succeeds in league one then weve probably found ourselves one of our 4 strikers for next season in thr champ.
Foster(if he stays), Obafemi, Mellon and one other

Think he’s on a season long loan so that’ll be tricky. But I agree a loan to league one would be the next obvious step.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 6:25 pmSurely hes proven himself at league 2 now. Re: Michael Mellon
Ged Brennan is on record as being very worried that he will leave in January, and admitted the more he scores, the more likely that is to happen.

Highly unlikely at this stage in his career. A humongous chasm between that league and the prem…….almost a different sportSouth West Claret. wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 12:12 pmLooks impressive I wonder if he can perform with his eye for goal in the Premier for us.

Re: Michael Mellon
The problem is we could recall him and send him to a club who decide not to play him, or he doesnt fit their style etc. Bit of a risk when hes doing well but needs to be done if we want to see how close he is to our leveldandeclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 7:14 pmGed Brennan is on record as being very worried that he will leave in January, and admitted the more he scores, the more likely that is to happen.

Re: Michael Mellon
Found the article again
"The 20-year-old moved to 13 goals in League Two for the season with his brace in Brannan’s first win in charge of the Shrimps.
While delighted with the overall performance, he fears Mellon’s hot streak in front of goal may count against Morecambe as they seek to keep the youngster until the end of the season." “It’s tremendous – but it’s not!” he said. “The more goals he scores, the less chance there is of us keeping him in January.
“I want him to go on and do really well, I really do. It’d hurt us if we lost him but that’s football.
“He deserves everything he gets. He’s a top player and getting to 13 already is just fantastic. If you give him the ball around the area, it’s a goal.”

I suppose we'd look at a loan into the Championship if possible.

Ex Claret Bedenau also on the score sheet for Morecambe at Doncaster.

Hopefully we can get this lad a loan to a higher level soon -
Goalscoring is an art - seems like a decent goalscorer can (almost) have success at any level.

Re: Michael Mellon
Didn't play against Milton Keynes the other day. And it showed as Morecambe were beaten.
Don't know if he's injured or suspended. Or maybe he's off to another club in a higher division?

Re: Michael Mellon
From Dundee:
The big story of the added time was a horrible injury to Michael Mellon who was battered from behind in an aerial challenge. The referee played the advantage and Costelloe broke into the penalty area where he was caught as he checked inside. There was no penalty this time.
Mellon needed treatment on the pitch for seven minutes before being stretchered off.

There was plenty of added time after Michael Mellon's serious-looking head injury, but Dundee were able to hold on for a vital win - just their third in 13 games.
