Why Villa match Sunday, when they play today?

Post by northeastclaret » Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:07 am

Just noticed they are playing away at Hibs tonight, rather than the normal Thursday night in the Europa League , so why change our match to Sunday?

To give them the best chance of winning?

At the time the game was moved, it was expected that Villa would be playing on the Thursday.

Thanks Tony. Why not give themselves an extra day to get over the arduous trip to Edinburgh and get some of the fringe in as well , so nice and refreshed for our match.,

It was only changed at the end of last week and it is because Hearts are also playing at home in Europe and so one of them had to move their game. That was Hibs and they have to kick off at tea time to ensure they are not playing at the same time as a Champions League game.

By last week, it was obviously too late to move our game back to Saturday.

Then we play away 3 days later and they play at home 4 days later.

It's nothing like the Luton postponement, one is a club unable to get its ground ready and the other is having to fit in with UEFA rules.

Just unfortunate that the change was made to their match this week so late.

Both are decisions that at least inconvenience us and help our opponents and neither are our fault

Sadly Villa didn't get the drawn away in Kazakhstan that would have been far more favourable for us.

Once HIbs n Hearts were both drawn at Home on the same night UEFA rules were always going to kick in. The game was rightly moved before the draw as fans are quick to complain at fixtures being moved at late notice. Not sure anyone can be blamed for not thinking what if Hibs n Hearts get through are both drawn at home 1st leg and HIbs will get Villa then we don't need to move the Burnley game.

As it is there is a train strike on Saturday so Sunday is much better :D

I don't think the Luton postponement benefits Luton at all.
Newly promoted teams usually raise their game in their first home game,(so we've dodged that), and I expect us to be way stronger later in the season once we've completed our transfer business and the team has "settled down" - as happened last season.

And neither have been made for the purpose of inconveniencing us.

Proper tinfoil hat stuff going on again.

They shouldn't be as refreshed as we are after our fortnight off.

I think it was good news for us, I wouldn't have wanted to go there for their first home game in the Premier League.

We've had two weeks to work on any problems we had during the City game. The whole squad should be in good nick and raring to go for the Villa and Forest games.
