Timber cut to size ...

Post by Clarets4me » Wed Aug 23, 2023 2:52 pm

Hi all,

Anybody know of a Timber yard etc who could cut me 17 lengths of Roof Baton type wood of 220mm X 20mm X 20mm,
or 34 of 110mm X 20mm X 20mm ? I am a numpty with DIY, so well out of comfort zone/area of expertise ... we live in Burnley ..

Thanks

I think I read Jewson in Colne cut somebody's timber to size for them. Might be better giving a few merchants a call, MKM, Howarth Timber, Travis Perkins, and Jewson all in the local area.

Surprised at you!
Just tell the Mrs to get a tape and saw out - sorted.

There doesn't seem to be 20 mm x 20mm batten.

Jewsons offer 19mm x 38mm in 2.4m lengths.

https://www.jewson.co.uk/timber/sawn-ca ... ber/batten

What some merchants do is offer you the chance to cut it to length, either with their saw or yours.

Yep, my worry was that trying to cut a 38mm batten down the middle for 220mm would be a problem ...

Am I the only person who opened this thread expecting it to be about the (recently injured) Arsenal defender?

I think Howarth Timber at Queensgate will be your answer, if you are local

Shuttleworth Hall Timber Yard. 07982 938615
Best place I know of for timber. He'll cut to size. Best prices too.

Howarths at Queensgate are very good and Mick is more than helpful
and ready to advise.

Tom always recommended the place behind the old Mitre pub. I took him at his word and they cut all sorts of sizes of timber for my garden hut. Wilsons Timber - 01282 458330

I’d cut you 34 @ 22mm x 20mm x 1100mm (note! 22mm)
For £25.00 cash
Or
34 @ 20mm x 20mm x 1100
For £30.00. Cash.

The 20x20 is dearer because I’d need to rip the stock 22mm down by 2mm.

This is rough sawn so you’d have to sand it if finish is important.
I’m coming to the game on Sunday, so I could meet you

Thanks for all your responses everyone .... a mate much more versed in such matters has suggested an alternative solution.
He's popping down tomorrow to have a look ... Thanks again, all !!
