Steve I'm right with you on that choice. Plague of Lighthouse Keepers is another spine tingling track from Pawn Hearts.

Are Pink Floyd considered progressive......?
If so surely it has to be one of their epics:
Atom Heart Mother (my favourite) - the album version:

And an interesting non Floyd cover:

Echoes

or Astronomy Domine

Cinema Show.
Though I could probably have chosen any track off 'Selling England by the Pound'.

I looked up the 'progresive' listed bands (whatever that means) and The Strawbs featured.
On that basis, it has to be 'Part of the Union'
They won't get me I'm part of the Union!

There are some odd selections in the Wiki list - The Animals for example.
The outstanding bands must be the likes of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis, Hawkwind, Yes, ELP, Moody Blues, maybe ELO, Rennaisance, Traffic, The Enid. I also like Wally, Rare Bird and Barclay James Harvest. I think of Focus as progressive too, and some of those German and French groups from around that time. And there's things like John Mclaughlin mahavishnu Orchestra.
Re: What's the single greatest progressive rock song of all time?
What's so good about those musical times - 1966 to mid to late 70s - is that record companies would give bands a lot of free reign to make this sort of experimental music. Incredible really and we are lucky to still be able to hear much of it, some of which passed us by at the time.

Suppers Ready-Genesis
Re: What's the single greatest progressive rock song of all time?
Beautifully crafted. Faced with a single choice from the yes blacklist, I'd pick "the gates of delirium" of the yesshows live album. The studio version doesn't flow as well as the studio version of close to the edge, though.

Hard to argue with that, but I'd have it just 2nd to The Court of the Crimson King.

Depends whether you can class Devo as prog rock but mongaloid is a tune and a half.

Stonehenge - Spinal Tap
Seriously though difficult to not pick Genesis - Supper's Ready is the obvious but I think The Musical Box, Cinema Show or Firth of Fifth possibly beat it.
Shout out for Opeth too - heavily prog influenced (some serious mellotron vibes on quite a few of theirs .. Eternal Rains will Come is fantastic
