We look good in flashes but not sure this shape is helping us at all.
Look really open every single time villa go forward.

Got to stop these silly offsides.

No I'm not sure it would do anything either tbh! But we won't dominate games in the prem in a way that allows us the luxury of Amdouni, Foster, Koleosho and Benson on the pitch at the same time.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 2:29 pmNot sure that would do anything.
They are just much better. Brownhill and Larsen would be chasing shadows.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
For the second time we're trying to build a team almost from scratch when the season has already begun, except this time were up against the big boys and going to get punished.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Like a knife through butter, too easy to play through us
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Not feeling Koleosho much at all. Loads of potential but he's been poor today.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Delcroix did well to save our defensive blushes.
Need to be more patient and stop giving the ball away cheaply. The Villa team look most dangerous when on the counter with their pace, and we are playing right into their strengths.

I do think this formation and players selected just isn’t working.
One of them 4 needs to be taken off for a more industrial type player IMO.

Delcroix with an ecellent tackle at the last.
I think this ref is going to give us nothing.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
it's a huge ask for him at 18 years old, to come into the best league in the world as a promoted team and perform. I'm very suprised he's starting tbh ahead of someone like larsen.

I read that Aston Villa have caught teams offside more than any other this season. It was a ridiculous amount for 3 matches.

Absolutely. Or Zaroury.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 2:35 pmit's a huge ask for him at 18 years old, to come into the best league in the world as a promoted team and perform. I'm very suprised he's starting tbh ahead of someone like larsen.

Probably an unpopular opinion based on this thread but we’ve looked alright

Absolutely. He must be very special. It was his first ever professional career start against City too. Talk about being thrown in the deep end…willsclarets wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 2:35 pmit's a huge ask for him at 18 years old, to come into the best league in the world as a promoted team and perform. Went through our left side far too easily again. This time we got away with it. We have to step it up.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
I know what you mean, there’s flashes of potential here.
But I think undeniably villa have destroyed us. However I wouldn’t rule out a draw, the flashes could turn into something next half

Haaland misses pen to keep it at 0-0.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Pinged it about a bit but nothing is sticking upfront and the midfield is non-existent off the ball. It's been total men against boys. It could be three or four.

Cullen yellow. Ref is giving a lot of soft ones against us.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
We have in general play aye, we just look very vulnerable on the counter without threatening too much at the other end. The big moments are all being produced by Villa.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
I don't have intention to write anyone off but Berge has been awful and just like a lot of SUFC fans described him. Running doing nothing.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Maybe go back to the City formation and put Foster out wide. Will give Cash something to think about.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Hmm at times yeah. I mentioned before but the 2 week off gap for us hasn’t been ideal. Villa have had quite a bit of game time which helps with fluidity. While we haven’t, and not just that, still gelling new players.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Lovely by Amdouni, just shame he couldn't finish it.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
They've ripped through us pretty much every time they've had the ball.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Good from Amdouni. I know I sound harsh but we've got to test the keeper there. Chances are few and fair between.

I’m not sure I understand the hate today for Berge
I think he’s been ok. Definitely no worse than cullen

Amdouni brilliant, there.
We need some magic from somewhere.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Midfield on the whole has been atrocious. I'm expecting us to find it more difficult than last season, obviously. But not for teams to gallop right through us. It's been really poor.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 2:45 pmI’m not sure I understand the hate today for Berge

Think it sums it up when Foster has been better defensively than he has up top.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
I do think no matter how well or badly we all think we’ve been so far, a lot of it has come from Villa being so good.

Berge makes some clever runs forward, but we've not got enough behind him when he does.

Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
That’s fair, but similar to under Dyche we have decided to play a 2 man midfield against a 3.
We are really struggling in midfield and I think it makes sense either Ramsey or Brownhill comes on to give us a bit more solidity in midfield.
As much as Koleoshi looks bright, I would sub him to help with our team structure

His problem is that he looks like a 'lolloper'. He made a couple of excellent interceptions, laid them off and appeared to drag his heels before moving on.

Defended him against City but Berge looks well off it. Look rough.Atleast Foster tries.
Re: Clarets v Villa Match Thread
Agree, think the shape has just been totally off it and Kompany's got that half very wrong. Been totally schooled by Emery.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 2:48 pmThat’s fair, but similar to under Dyche we have decided to play a 2 man midfield against a 3.
