I tried it with a VPN but no joy so logged onto Birdie and co on BFC official

Yep, it's free. Contemplating turning off the BBC and just listening to Bird because I glanced at a copy of the Daily Mail when I was in ASDA this afternoon and now I hate public-funded institutions.
