Cricket field stand
Re: Cricket field stand
I stayed until the end and clapped players at the end. Not their fault that we were ripped apart by a more experienced established and far better team,it happens,it will happen again and after time we will be the team ripping others apart.

If you ever wanted to know who the 'Supporters' are and those tagging along, just to say they were there, when it's going well!
Spurs support were mocking and laughing at them as they queued to get out.

Re: Cricket field stand
I've had a season ticket since 1973
You can count the games I've left early on three fingers
Yesterday 3 of us gave back word on a family function due to being at the game, and not for the first time
When the 5th went in yesterday we had the chance to attend the function if we left...which we did
Apparently I'm not a proper supporter anymore

Correct!TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 8:08 pmI was at the City game, and was shocked the way the CFS emptied at 35 mins and then again at 80 mins.
We have a young team playing in the hardest league in the world. What a difference it would make to see a full ground clapping you off and singing proudly, even if you have been soundly beaten.
There were a few CFS posters getting defensive after the City and Villa games because of the poor atmosphere, but if you sit in the CFS, you have to accept that the rest of the ground, the players, and VK, are looking at you to create an atmosphere.

So did I and I always will. If I’m going, I applaud the team off whatever the result. I feel sorry seeing them walk round applauding the empty stands so if I’m the only one there I’ll keep doing it till I stop going.
Not sure if they appreciate it or not but for me that’s part of the Matchday experience.

Re: Cricket field stand
According to this thread I'm a coke sniffing wet fart that isn't a proper supporter and should be ashamed of myself.
The reality is that I sit in the CFS because it's cheap and sheltered. You could count the number of games I've left early on one hand, though yesterday when the fifth goal went in it seemed like a better option at the time to go and sit in the sun outside the cricket club and catch up with a good friend.
I'll decide when I leave thank you, which pretty much every game is until the final whistle. But sure, if it makes you feel better to pretend that all those that left yesterday aren't as good a fan as you then go ahead.

Of course anyone can leave whenever they choose and anyone can comment on that choice. Just glad that Nori caught the final 25 minutes of the family function before it wrapped up.

A meal was booked for 6.30pm about 2hrs away from Burnley, on a clear run and not the time it currently takes to get in or out of Burnley, had we waited till the end we would not have made it in time, as it was we got there in good time and enjoyed the whole function
Re: Cricket field stand
Again......wrong in this case
Re: Cricket field stand
Same in Jimmy Mac lower,lost 8 1, West Brom,1969,stayed to the end,KEEP THE FAITH,beat by a better team,move on,We will bounce back,like We always do,UTC.
Re: Cricket field stand
Yesterday was one of those days when the team really needed us and it was great to hear the CFS bellowing out our anthem which was echoed by at least three sides of the ground. A big improvement on Villa which was embarrassing.
I felt proud to be a part of that support and even us family standers are joining in this year. People will always try to justify leaving early but thank goodness the ones who didn’t gave the team the backing they deserved.

Maybe the people that left early felt that their support wasn't rewarded with a good enough performance that warranted staying until the end or does it just work 1 way.claretbob wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 10:40 pmYesterday was one of those days when the team really needed us and it was great to hear the CFS bellowing out our anthem which was echoed by at least three sides of the ground. Are you suggesting that the effort wasn’t there from the players? As long as they are putting the effort in then they deserve our support!Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 10:49 pmMaybe the people that left early felt that their support wasn't rewarded with a good enough performance that warranted staying until the end or does it just work 1 way.

Yes & no I don't think everybody put a shift in & that opinion isn't determined by the difference in quality.PaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 6:59 amAre you suggesting that the effort wasn’t there from the players? Please name the players you think, heard or read that didn't "put a shift in".
No animosity here, I'm genuinely intrigued by your claim.

Re: Cricket field stand
People can leave when they want imo. As long as they are behind the players when they are there. Don’t think there are replacement fans who are guaranteed to stay to the end. Fans of all clubs will leave when the game is over as a contest. All this I’m a better fan than you stuff is nonsense. I find it more annoying when fans turn up consistently late and leave for half time extremely early and then return very late ( often to do with food queues).
Re: Cricket field stand
I left on the 4th goal. Sat in the cricket club and had a beer in the sun. On reflection I should have stayed but couldn't stand watching anymore and the alternative was appealing

You didn't understand the tactics from the first minute?pauliopaulio wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 9:23 pmLike I said I’ve left a handful of times. Today was one of those times because it was that bad.
I used to absolutely rinse anyone who left early when I was younger so I get it. But today, my God, I was so glad to go back to a family BBQ after their 4th went in. I just didn’t understand the tactics from the first whistle and then we made it worse after half time
What about that tactic in the 4th minute where Koleosho cut them to shreds to lay on our first goal, did you think Kompany had made a mistake there?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but games actually last for 90 minutes & not 4.

He doesn't see much of the game after the 4th minute. He's too worried about watching the exits for people who leave early without a valid excuse.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:12 pmI hate to be the bearer of bad news but games actually last for 90 minutes & not 4.

The point I was trying to labour is that it should work both ways, don't give fans an excuse to leave early & they won't.
Re: Cricket field stand
Ahh, now you see, you've failed at the first hurdle there. If you were a proper fan (TM), you'd understand that there are no valid excuses for leaving early.

In fairness it was possibly after conceding 5 on the bounce and an almost total capitulation that led him to believe we may have made tactical errors . I personally thought Spurs were very good indeed , though , yes our 1st goal was quality .Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:02 pmYou didn't understand the tactics from the first minute?

Re: Cricket field stand
Hi Nori, doesn't matter if you are from Accrington or not. Nori is still a good Accrington name due to the Nori brickwork factory there. A large Accringtkn employer, so no I didn't get it wrong.
As for your meal/ function I'm glad the 25 minutes or maybe a little less helped you get there in time. I assumed you would have been leaving a few minutes early anyway to beat the traffic. So, alls well that ends well as they say. It was indeed meant to raise a smile but not from you obviously. I thought we were all fair game on here but if you were offended I'm more than happy to apologise. Didn't realise I would have touched a nerve, that wasn't the intention.

I come up from concourse around 10 mins into the first half, get another beer whilst it’s quiet, then go down around the 40 min mark and come back around 55/60 mins.
Always have and always will. Nothing usually happens.

Re: Cricket field stand
I stayed to the end as usual because I feel bad seeing the ground empty and want to do my bit to try and maintain morale amongst the players (yes, I realise my presence makes no difference at all as just one occupied seat but it’s how I feel). I do find it odd that people generally are quick to judge the loyalty of other fans and scoff at “ **** support” but then seem quite happy to leave early when their own team are struggling.

If as I assume you are referring to 1967.
The game was away at WBA, which is a bit different to a home game - in terms of leaving early.
My main memory of that game is that we went 1-0 up!
Re: Cricket field stand
When we're winning away and the home end starts emptying, it's a wonderful sight. When the 4th goal went in at Sunderland last season, it seemed the whole ground started leaving. Supporters pay their money and are entitled to vote with their feet.

If supporters were being paid to be there then there would be a strong case for staying until the end, but seeing as we pay to be there frankly anyone has the right to do whatever they like with regards to staying or going
