Baseball in Toronto

Post by CaptJohn » Sun Sep 10, 2023 1:28 pm

Went to the Blue Jays v Kansas City Royals game yesterday. It was great fun and not knowing too much about the game I learned a lot. My wife and I walked from the centre of Toronto to the Rogers Centre near the Skydome. The fans were really friendly and not a sign of any bother. Easy access into the stadium and good range of food and beverage on offer inside. Good seats near the 1st base. Saw three home runs and some really slick pitching from the Jays pitcher. Jays went on to win 5-1 so it was a happy crowd leaving the stadium. All in all a very enjoyable experience and if you ever find yourself in Toronto I'd give it a go.

Toronto fans love all 3 of their major league teams. Soccer, Baseball and Ice Hockey.

They’ve developed the area brilliantly in recent times and the walk from Toronto FC’s ground do the Skydome has some great bars and places to eat.

Luckily I’ve managed to visit a few times through work, but I always catch a Blue Jays game if I can when I’m there.

Love the Skydome. Let's go Blue Jays - still hanging in for the wildcard spot after the usual decent start, fall away.

Went to Skydome on silver wedding tour. Landed in Toronto with Blue Jays happily in the playoff shout. Two weeks later they were out and them and the Cleveland Indians were playing for fun. 13-8 with what seemed like a never ending rotation of pitchers.
Highlight of the night was a shot at $1m if you could strike a pitch into a barrel about 50yds away. One poor guy hit the rim but it bounced off, instead of in.
I'm a fan of baseball anyway but it never drags as it can watching on tv.

Highly recommend all of South Ontario. We did an unforgettable tour.
Kingston, Ottawa, Algonquin NP, Midland, Penetanguishene, Wasaga Bay, Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake and Toronto.

My wife and I have had two weeks over in Ontario. Two nights in Niagra Falls, one night in Niagra on the Lake which is beautiful followed by eight nights in Tiverton near Kincardine on the banks of Lake Huron. We're now in Toronto for three nights and fly home tomorrow. We've been to Canada many times and really love it. We did spend a month over here back in the seventies when we travelled east coast to west coast by train stopping off in Winnipeg and Calgary. It's a lovely country with friendly people.

So did I !!!
I’m over visiting family and 13 of us went yesterday. We picked a good game.
I’ve been a few times before on previous visits. Last time on 2018 I was unfortunate enough to attend one of the longest games in history - 23 innings I think it went too. We left after about 16 innings and went home - which takes a couple of hours - turned the TV on they were still playing !!

I also went back in the 90s when they had their greatest ever team in the year they won the World Series - that was a fantastic atmosphere. If you noticed the names around the stadium stands like Joe Carter etc they were all from that World Series winning team.

Sport is massive in Toronto. They are the only team outside of America to have won the NBA, the baseball and the soccer. The national sport is ice hockey though and the Maple Leafs are massive - getting tickets for home games is virtually impossible as a tourist. It’s the one sport I’ve never been able to get a ticket since I first went 35 years ago.

We had a 6hr lay over in Toronto recently so headed down to the water front for a nosey. The Blue Jays were playing and the area was alive with fans in all the pubs/bars.

What a country 😎

I saw the New York Mets at Citi Field last June, what an experience!

The ticket was only about £15. Such an amazing atmosphere, the Americans know what they’re doing when it comes to sports that’s for sure.

A huge quartet of games coming up against the Texas Rangers. If the Blue Jays come out on top of that series a wild card place looks much more secure.
Over the last 10 games the Blue Jays have won 7 so hopefully the good form continues.

This was our visit to Yankee Stadium, Bronx, in 2019 just a few months before COVID hit.
New York Yankees v Los Angeles Angels, paid $32 for a ticket.
Great experience, 2 minute video here.

Toronto is a great city possibly my favourite one I've ever visited. Niagra however, possibly the most disappointing place I've ever been. Niagra on the lake is lovely however

Inreally enjoyed the aquarium at Toronto which we did before a BlueJays game. Must admit baseball left me cold. Was funny though with my aunt and grandma decked out in all the hats and t-shirts declaring they didn't have a clue what was going on 😂

I wonder how many Burnley fans were at that game on Friday in Toronto!
My youngest daughter has just moved to Toronto from Vancouver and my son was over there last week visiting. They all went to the game. He's now deliberating whether to move over there and was trying to encourage the wife and I to move out there too. Too far away from 'Turf though for me.

I must admit one thing I love about football is the need to separate fans in the stadium. Would feel soulless if fans were mixed together.

Can remember being taken to a Braves v Dodgers game in 1984 and being told that it was their equivalent of an English “soccer” derby even though the teams were thousands of miles apart so we should treat it as such. We started up a rendition of F…. Off Dodgers which didn’t go down well and were obliged to make our own way home after the match!

We looked into moving over after our holiday. Unless you have a work skill they need it’s a points based system. They aren’t short on firefighters and couldn’t get near the points between us. C’est la vie as they say in Quebec.

Went to watch the Blue Jays at the Skydome back in 1993 and loved it. A great City Toronto and for some reason I remember the particularly delicious hot dogs being sold from street carts there.

We're retired Tricky Trevor so we could do it either utilising my daughters permanent visa or through an investment route.

I live an hour and a half from Niagara on the Lake. The place is a real gem. Def worth the trip up from the Falls. Couple of nice pubs there too.

Yer was in the skydome as well about 27 years ago , now can't recall who the Jays were playing as would have to look it up but i loved it when the closed the dome in the evening when it got to dusk . It took it's time to close but it was a massive yoke .
