Weghorst's been good since he came on. Nice finish.

We’ll see. But it’ll take longer than this to work out that’s for sure.

High end championship . Needs the system to settle with us to prove himself at a higher level. There’s a lot of pressure on hik to deliver in both our team and international team. Both sides he’s relied on heavily with lesser players around him

Re: Cullen
To think when I suggested a midfield 3 of lokonga Vranckx and ward prowse, I was asked where would you play Cullen!
Don’t get me wrong I really rate Cullen, but he will need to be improved on eventually

Re: Cullen
I really like Cullen, but I have a feeling he might just be a bit too lightweight, a bit too slow and a bit too small for the Premier League.

Re: Cullen
It’s not rocket science with Cullen, when you play at premier league level every single player he will come up against is stronger and quicker than him.
He’s a good player but I do worry about him this season. Especially if we keep playing this formation/style as it doesn’t compliment him at all

Re: Cullen
Cracking neat and tidy player is Cullen but we need somebody beside him doing the donkey work, he is no where near the level required to play on his own in Midfield.
I even think Rodri would of struggled in our opening 3 games with the system we used

Re: Cullen
He’s had a tough start to the season but if we’d have played a sensible system he’d at least have had a chance of stepping up.
The whole team, not just Cullen, needs to drop 20 yards when we don’t have the ball and focus on being compact rather than chasing down like headless chickens.

Good to see some sections of our fanbase happy to dig out the fans and players’ player of the year last season after three games.

Spelling out the obvious shouldn't be a dig he served his purpose last season that doesn't appear to be in dispute, this sh1t is another level & I think a rude awakening call could be needed.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:41 pmGood to see some sections of our fanbase happy to dig out the fans and players’ player of the year last season after three games.

No need for blasphemy. I thought this disrespect for Christian Burnley supporters had gone the same way as racial and homophobic comments on here.
Obviously not.

Writing someone off who was absolutely magnificent last season already is incredible.I’m sorry but I’m more sure than any other player from last year that he’s the one more capable than any of stepping up to that level. I think the manager as got the system and team selection wrong but I also support him to get it right.

Re: Cullen
I was dipping between this match and the rugby but what I saw he gave his usual Ireland performance, no less than a 7. Always shows for the ball, plays it quick if simple, never carries the ball, gets his tackles in. Of course he hasn’t settled in the PL, have you forgot who we have been up against?

Jeezus. Religions are totally up there for people to take the pee out of. I will defend your right to believe in what you will but reserve the right to think you're crazy too. And accept that you may feel sorry/ashamed/annoyed/a.n.other for me for not being religious.

Re: Cullen
in the first 3 games he's played a completely different role for us, I don't remember him dropping into the back line to pick the ball up once and start play, he did that in every single game last season. The tweak isn't his fault.

Re: Cullen
Even Jesus doesn't fancy him anymore
It was obvious last year that we lacked height, pace and strength in central midfield
We got away with it then but the Premier League sorts the men from the boys
Cullen is no worse than anyone else we have - but they are just not up to the level required

I think everyone recognised how good he was at championship level. But ultimately there’s a reason his first season at this level has come at 27 years old, he’s going to struggle this year and physically he’s at a disadvantage to every team we will play.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:41 pmGood to see some sections of our fanbase happy to dig out the fans and players’ player of the year last season after three games.

Re: Cullen
He has been left high and dry by how we have chosen to play so far this season in completely emptying the midfield.
Id like too see us ‘start’ the rest of the season by going back to what we know and evolving it from there. With a bit more discipline around Cullen I think we’ll start to see his top level capabilities.

Re: Cullen
He's a player that thrives in teams that dominate possession. I don't think he's played a game this season where that was ever going to be the case:
Man City
Aston Villa
Tottenham
France
Netherlands
Let's wait and see how he (and the rest of our players) looks after we've played everyone in this league at least once.
It's also worth mentioning that Cullen didn't really have a pre-season. He didn't seem to feature in any of the friendlies. Maybe that's a contributing factor as to why he's looking slightly off the pace.

However Jesus Wept seemed to pass the moderators test where as my original thought of “For ******* **** sake, give it ******* time you bunch of complete ******* *******” didn’t.
Re: Cullen
Well said. Not to forget many players are believers as well. Take Foster for example, always gives thanks to our saviour at every occasion. Some basic respect (no mockery) is the least you can do as a supporter.

Re: Cullen
On Cullen I think it's unfair to judge him after 3 games against world class opponents. Premier League is another big step up for him. He's not a natural talent but a guy that works hard and does his job for the team. Give him some time to adjust to the higher level. Knowing him he'll be alright.
From now on the games look more doable and for Cullen and Berge a chance to show what they're made of. I do think they could be very complementary. Berge was best with Ndidi next to him at Genk, Cullen backed up by Roberts can fill that role. Otherwise Brownhill and Massengo will get a chance to do better.

Re: Cullen
You must struggle in the real world. People say such things commonly whether you like it or not. If you don't like it then ask the mods what they think.
Why don't you just tolerate others. Toleration is part of a good religion isn't it?

Re: Cullen
You could say the same about them all, they was all oven ready for the championship hence the cakewalk, pointing out how poorly some of them seem to be performing now isn't detracting from the performances in the championship, we are where we are currently in this present league & harping on about something earlier isn't relevant to the PL.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 6:08 amI think everyone recognised how good he was at championship level. Re: Cullen
We need a midfield of three and to specifically include a physical and atlhetic defensive/holding midfield player, then you would hopefully see the best from Josh Cullen

Re: Cullen
I am not sure if this is a joke or not?
Are you really comparing playing the occasional game against a decent international team to playing week in and week out against the best football teams on the planet?
Take the claret tinted specs off. Cullen is a great player but ultimately he’s looked massively out of his depth
Re: Cullen
Cullen has had no midfield support this season.Of course he will come good
Re: Cullen
“Jesus wept” is a direct quote from that book of ancient stories you lot seem to set so much store by. Is the bible blasphemous, too, now?
Re: Cullen
Are you seriously suggesting that he never played against bigger, stronger, faster opponents in the championship week in week out or are all the players in the championship smaller, weaker and slower than Cullen and that's why he was the fans and players POS.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 1:18 pmI am not sure if this is a joke or not?

Are you suggesting that championship players are not big enough, strong or fast enough to play in the Premier league or to have ever played in the premier league? Have you seen some of the units that play in the Championship? Cullen's size and speed is not the problem here...!

Anyone with eyes can see that. The championship quality is also considerably worse.
Cullen will have never come up against such athletes in his career week in and week out

What makes you think that? Just because you’re scared of all Muslims doesn’t mean we all have to be. Watch....
The Qur’an is just a book of ancient stories which some folk seem to set a lot of store by for some reason.
Re: Cullen
I have to say that you only tend to be prolific on here around transfer window time or early in the season giving your insights and opinions on the team, players and all things football (which of course you are entitled to do). Then you kind of disappear bit by bit when, as the season goes on, a lot of your foresightedness proves to be far off the mark.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 2:58 pmProbably the same thing that attracted you to it?
