Team v Forest
Team v Forest
Internationals finally over…
I’ve tried picking a bench too, not easy.
—————————Trafford
Roberts——O’Shea———Beyer——Delcroix
———————Berge———Cullen
Koleosho————Brownhill—————Tresor
——————————Foster
Muric, Al-Dakhil, Cork, Amdouni, Benson, Zaroury, Larsen, JBG, Ramsey
I’ve put Brownhill there more for the pressing qualities higher up. Had to leave Redmond, Vitinho, Rodriguez and Massengo (not sure he’ll be ready yet anyway?) out of the squad.

Re: Team v Forest
This would be my starting 11 except I'd give Berge the more forward role of the 3 and ask Brownhill to do a lot of the leg work to support Berge and CullenRVclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 10:11 amInternationals finally over…

Tresor or Koleosho is a fine margin call for me, but Zaroury deserves to come back in given his performances last season and the big advantage of this team is that it integrates 7 players who were here last season so know what we're about. Zaroury and Brownhill also strengthen our press.
I'd take the logic a step further and go for Al Dakhil over O'Shea, but I'd be worried over Al Dakhil's confidence after the Spurs game and I also think OShea may be a more vocal leader.

The only changes i want to see are Taylor and Brownhill in to give us a proper shape and be more solid and Tresor, Benson, to come off the bench when needed.

We haven't got a clue who Kompany will pick - certainly based on the first three games
Doubt very much Kompany will pick Taylor
And if some are seriously contemplating JBG at LB I'll have a pint of what they are on

That's why I asked the question really. It isn't like when Dyche was manager and everyone knew exactly who'd play and how. Sometimes felt pointless opposition teams coming to scout us.

VK’s man management skills are going to be extremely important a lot of players are going to be unhappy if they don’t get much game time.

Re: Team v Forest
This is a recurring topic, but I don't agree with this re: Berge, for several reasons. Firstly, his best performance this season was probably his first, against City, when the natural shape of the game (they had the ball in our half for long spells) meant he was playing deeper and as an orthodox central midfield. That was in stark contrast to the Villa game when he was noticeably higher and looked a little lost for it. Secondly, he's generally looked better to my mind stepping onto the ball from deeper - his contribution for the goal in the cup tie at Forest was an example of that (picked it up deeper and drove with it), and whilst he played higher against Spurs than against City, he was behind the ball more than he was against Villa and that gave him more opportunity in that first half hour to influence the game on the ball.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 4:20 pmNot sure Berge has shown anything to say he could play defensive midfield with Cullen.
And whatever formation/tactics we play, getting Cullen running the game has to be our no.1 priority.
Thirdly, that deeper role is where he made his reputation in Belgium.
So all in all, I think he may prove the best option alongside Cullen. I take the point that Cork improved us against Spurs, but we were 4 goals down by then and that was at least as relevant - and equally, the first 25 minutes or so was very good, and Berge was influential in that from a position broadly alongside Cullen. With Brownhill playing a more dynamic role further forward - supporting the break, providing a running option to the creative players and to Foster, leading the press, able to cover Berge should he venture forwards - that feels a fairly well balanced midfield 3 to me which although not spectacular at this level is capable of holding its own.
Re: Team v Forest
I just want to see Charlie at LB. We need to get our first point and Charlie will help bolster our defence. Suspect it won't happen though.

Re: Team v Forest
I hope we're not going to be quoting the Forest goal in support of Berge in January.
Re: Team v Forest
Think so too but I guess he would put left footed Delcroix as LCB. Though I do see the upside of the speed and work rate of Vitinho. It would be a good choice to protect Al Dakhil who's not playing at his best lately and let the more experienced defenders do their thing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 5:14 pmTrafford

Koleosho Amdouni Tresor Foster is a pretty decent front line and with Benson Zaroury Odobert Larsen Gudmondsson Jay Rod and Redmond on the bench...
Interesting to see how this squad will develop under VK. Very talented hard working intelligent young bunch. Good mix of speed strength and technical capabilities. Tresor hopefully will bring alot of creativity to put the others in dangerous positions.

It's not funny. Foster and Trafford are not wingers. Other than that it's hilarious. Makes a great point about our lack of a left back.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 7:56 pmI suppose that at some point, this joke will be funny.
