Yes, the 5000th game was against Man Utd and it was the remembrance game for clarets who passed in the previous 12 months. My dad is listed in the program.

Yes, beat them to 5000 just like we seem to beat them at everything nowadays!
Only 6 clubs have achieved this, that lot will be no 7

Strange that we have played so many more league games than Rovers. Founder members of FL so same number of seasons. Guess they have played more seasons in leagues with fewer games

It’s probably because they’ve been in Premier League more so have played less games in those seasons.

Don’t tell them that though!

How many of those are without a benefactor ? They were buying cups and leagues from their inception.

Notts County would apparently have been the first to 5000 but for relegation to the National league and will pass 5000 when they play game 14 this season
They were in the National League from 19-20 to 22-23 season
Suspect Accrington and then Everton followed by Villa of the original 12 will have the fewest played

Whether we like it or not, we clearly have played more games than Blackburn have. We spent more seasons in the bottom two divisions when they played more games than what is now the Championship and they've also had more Premier League seasons than us too which is another run of less games.

Accrington by a country mile. It left the Football League in 1896 and never returned. When Stanley came in it was a totally different club.

Even allowing the games of both to count there will be a country mile

You can't count them both. Two totally different clubs who were both in existence at the same time.

Let's hope Boro spoil the party and grab their first win of the season at Deadwood.
Michael Carrick surely under a bit of pressure there.

That must apply to MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon ?
Which club won the FA Cup? Which one was in the Premier League what is now MK Dons or what is now Wimbledon?
AFC Bournemouth and Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic?
Intriguing. Or I think it is.
So many clubs have disappeared to reappear
Hereford, Darlington, Macclesfield Aldershot Bury
Not sure about some of the others.
Of present day clubs there is Leeds Utd previously Leeds City and
maybe Leicester City prev Leicester Fosse

MK & Wimbledon is nothing like the same. MK confirm that they were formed in 2004 and therefore have not won the FA Cup or played in the Premier League. Those honours now belong to AFC Wimbledon.

Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic was no more than a name change to AFC Bournemouth. Same with Leicester Fosse to Leicester City. Leeds United were set up when Leeds City went out of business.

The others you mention are all phoenix clubs.

Am a bit thick CT
Does a phoenix club keep the past history
In other words can the phoenix Bury keep the old Bury FA C up record?

I wondered this because Darlington 1883 are now just Darlington again as if nothing happened.

I think Bury still existed but didn't play and now they've merged with the phoenix team so it continues as normal but Darlington definitely ended and restarted new.

Middlesbrough didn't look too shabby last season. Still early days, but I didn't expect them to be sitting at the foot of the table after six games.

For Gods sake, don’t get him started on MK Dons and Wimbledon.
