Trafford 7 - probably his best game with his feet, not too confident at corners, good hands from shots
Roberts 7 - worked really hard to constantly create passing angles
Al-Dakhil 7 - coped quite well with their physical forwards
Beyer 8 - after a shaky first 20 I thought he was really good
Taylor 8 - top performance, used the ball well and gave us grit we’ve perhaps missed
Cullen 7 - his best showing of the season, ran most of the second half
Brownhill 7 - like CT, brought more grit and energy to the team, great ball for Koleosho with the first goal
JBG 6 - good robust option from the start, struggled to create much though
Koleosho 8 - had their right side on toast first half, he’s raw but so much fun to watch
Amdouni 8* - what a lovely player he is
Foster 7 - minus one for a silly red, thought he led the line well again, good in tight spaces and should have his 3rd goal of the season

Berge 7 - really positive performance from him, those powerful drives in that right channel are exactly where he excels
Tresor - not on long enough but he looked quality, very excited to see more
Zaroury 6 - wasted a decent chance and never quite made a telling contribution

Gutted it wasn’t all 3 there, shame on the VAR and Jones, although it didn’t surprise me with Darren England and him, they couldn’t wait to give it, did Jones even watch the replay properly? Embarrassing.

Trafford 6
Roberts 7
Al Dakhil 7
Beyer 7
Taylor 7
Cullen 5 Largely marked out the game 1st half whilst we were in possession but then had a hand in our goal. Looked like Forest nullified him and maybe a bit off his usual pace.
Brownhill 6
Koleosho 6 Great running with the ball. Ultimately turned possession over often. Gets me off the seat of my pants though.
Zeki 7 Good goal. Good strike early low towards the corner. Great feet and awareness. Looks a player.
Gudmundson 5
Foster 7 (-1 for daft red, was head and shoulders our best player aside from that)
Zadoury 5 Missed a decent chance.
Berge 6 V unlucky not to have assisted the winner.
Tresor - Promising cameo.

Trafford 6 - shot stopping is really good but he doesn’t come off his line at all. Doesn’t relieve pressure for the rest of the team and is a lot slower than Aro in posession.

That wasn’t a flawless performance but it was a very decent performance that showed a template for the future. Lots to work on but clearly very, very unlucky that an exceptionally poor decision denied us the opportunity for a first win.

Trafford – 6 – Absolutely no chance with the goal, a couple of decent saves and generally pretty assured with his feet, but his lack of command from set plays was a repeat concern.

Roberts – 7 – Neat and tidy and whilst he occasionally allowed Hudson Odoi a little too much space, he did well enough defensively.

Taylor – 9 – That might be one of his best all round performances for Burnley. Hugely impressive defensively, and some of his distribution demonstrated he’s learned a few things from working under Kompany for 14 months. Makes his absence for the first 3 games all the more bizarre.

Al-Dakhil – 7 – thought he stood up to a robust examination pretty well – particularly given the tough spell he endured just before the international break.

Beyer – 7 – generally showed his class and composure, but three times he was pickpocketed trying to drive into midfield with the ball, and that needs to stop.

Cullen – 8 – welcome back Josh. Terrific riposte to those who doubted his ability to perform at this level. Knitted it all together.

Brownhill – 7 – A few untidy moments but his familiarity with Cullen and the system added cohesion, and he generally kept the ball moving intelligently and pragmatically, including in the build up for the goal. His scrapping was important in helping us hang in there for the first quarter of the game.

Amdouni – 7 – lovely finish for the goal and unlucky with a couple of other efforts from range, but a little peripheral for long periods. Will presumably get a go at centre forward in Foster’s absence for the next two league games.

JBG – 6 – did the basics of protecting the ball tidily enough, and worked back diligently, without ever being especially threatening.

Koleosho – 7 – Loads of pace, loads of threat. Plenty of wrong options, but he terrifies defenders and his contribution for the goal was absolutely superb.

Foster – 7 – utterly daft for the red card and can have no complaints – that isn’t acceptable. Otherwise another masterclass of complete centre forward play. We’ll miss him massively for the next 2 league games.

Berge – 8 – a really impressive cameo, should have had a terrific assist and showed how he can compliment Brownhill and Cullen in a midfield 3.

Zaroury – 6 – some nice touches and created space, but snatched at the ball around the box when it came to him – too keen to make an impression after missing 3 games.

Tresor – an interesting cameo.

I have no explanation for the disallowed goal, and with 2 really tough league games next up and now without Foster, that may yet prove really costly in the long run as the wait for a win extends (although had it stood, no doubt Forest would have thrown everything at us and there's no guarantees we'd have seen it out). But lots to be positive about and the extra solidity and resilience that Brownhill and Taylor added another dimension to this team. It was a bit naïve at times, and I still think we probably started with one too many players deployed ahead of the ball when we were defending (and I thought our most convincing period was when Berge came on and all of a sudden that midfield area looked really strong). But the balance was much better tonight and we competed well with a Forest team who look pretty well equipped themselves.

Trafford 6 - Still prefer Muric. As a young keeper, he’s getting swamped by towering forwards on corners. Then again, the defence need to break that up better.
Roberts 7 - An impressive “new” long throw
Al Dakhil 6 Better than of late
Beyer 7 - Good after first 20 minutes
Taylor 8 - Welcome back Charlie; you’ve been missed
Cullen 7 - Better today
Brownhill 7 - Energy bunny of the side
Koleosho 8 MoM this lad is talented
Zeki 7- Great strike
Gudmundson 6 - May have done better on Odoi’ goal
Foster 6 (-1 for being idiotic)
Zaroury 6 -Not quite at it
Berge 7 - Unlucky with “Goal”

Trafford 6 - thought his distribution was good and he swept up well at times, gave us control of the game. He looked a little nervous on balls into the box however.
Roberts 7 - solid game and tucked into midfield.nicely at times.
Al Dhakil 6 - good on the ball but some poor decision making defensively and one headed clearance that could have proven costly. He's learning though.
Beyer 7 - swept across the back line really well and made some good tackles. Needs to learn when is the correct time to release the ball when bringing it out of defence. He's been dispossessed more times this season already than he was for the whole of last year.
Taylor 7 - some excellent blocks and tackles and generally very solid. A couple of nice clips to Koleosho, good to see him start. One really nice switch also.
Gudmundson 6 - a little quiet but worked hard and also played a couple of nice switches which helped us stretch play and gave Forest something else to think about.
Amdouni 8* - I really like the look of him, glides with the ball at times and an excellent finish.
Cullen 7 - he's not as dominant at this level but picked up some good positions to make important interceptions.
Brownhill 7 - pleasing to see him start and his zip and physicality in the middle of the park really makes a real difference.
Koleosho 8 - gave their right back a torrid time. Needs to work on his distribution but he's a huge threat and a real outlet for us.
Foster 7 - he looks so strong this year, completely outmuscling Forest players on a number of occasions. A little sloppy in posession at times and silly for the sending off but he will learn. We will miss him but it provides an opportunity for someone else.

Berge 7 - caused them a lot of problems with his physicality, the disallowed goal was farcical, VAR overstepping and misinterpreting the rules of the game.
Zaroury 6 - looked a little nervy, another one learning at this level but he's got the ability to adapt. Maybe should have done better with his chance.

Tresor, clearly has ability, wouldn't surprise me to see him start on Saturday with Amdouni playing as centre forward.

Trafford 6 no chance goal -ok
Roberts 6 decent long throws
Al Dakhil 6 - touches of class but wobbly too
Beyer 7- clearly top player but his rubs are risky
Taylor 8- excellent from him, defended well passed well
Cullen 6 - not his best but never stopped.
Brownhill 6- lively but scrappy
Koleosho 7- suberb work for goal , an unpolished gem
Amdouni 7 well struck goal
Gudmundson 6- we need better
Foster 6 lively but silly red card

Zahoury 6- needs confidence back
Berge 7- shook it up a bit late

A lively if pretty poor quality ( for a neutral ) game . We were unlucky but it’s a starting point, literally

Trafford 7 - composed and solid enough but worrying that he doesn’t command his 6 yard box on crosses.

Roberts 7 - put in a great shift. Passing was crisp.
Taylor 8 - finally a bit of balance. Defended superbly but also contributed going forward.
Al Dakhil 7 - handles their forward reasonably well. Composed on the ball.
Beyer 7 - better last 65 mins after a shaky first 25. Needs to have a plan to release the ball when he brings it out because if he gets caught with the ball it’s trouble at this level.

Cullen 7 - overrun a little in the first half but ran the show in the last half hour.
Brownhill 7 - brought the bite and energy required.

JBG 6 - tidy enough but not much of a threat.
Koleosho 8 - can’t work him out - sometimes unplayable other times needlessly gives the ball away. One things for certain, he’s making a name for himself in the top league.
Amdouni 8 - what a lovely footballer. Love the way he twists and turns with his low centre of gravity. What a finish too!
Foster 8 - I actually thought he was excellent again despite his red card. Lead the line brilliantly. Was strong, quick, aggressive and generally a real handful. He’ll have to learn from the red card quickly.

Berge 8 - said all along I wanted to see him running that inside right channel. Great impact on the game.
Zaroury 7 - good to see him back. Some neat runs and touches.
Tresor n/a - looked very bright….
Delcroix n/a - comfortable on the ball and slotted in well.

Let’s face it, we were robbed. Clearly the best team in the second half. Played some excellent stuff and looked dangerous. Sloppy first 25/30 mins though where we struggled to retain the ball as well.

All the money in football and they can't employ anyone of the required standard to referee games. Absolutely robbed tonight, that handball decision is one of the worst you'll see but it's made by two blokes who have read the laws but never played the game; that is football's biggest problem.

Despite that, amazing what adding a bit of experience and putting players in their proper positions does for a team.

Trafford - 6 no chance with the goal but he's not quite convincing so far

Roberts - 7 looked back at home at right back

Al-Dakhil - 7 learning by the game

Beyer - 7 a few risky forays into midfield where he found he doesn't have as much taken and space as he got in the championship

Taylor - 8 excellent

Cullen - 6 much better second half, he was way off it first

Brownhill - 8 gave us loads of energy, organised and motivated on the pitch and was involved in a lot of our good play

Gudmundsson - 6

Koleosho - 7 still showing the rawness and probably staying on a bit longer than he should but they couldn't live with him for a long time in the first half and when he adds to his pace with a few other attributes, he'll be some player.

Amdouni - 7 fantastic controlled finish, a top strike earlier on, he found some food spaces and has good quick feet. But he also drifted in and out (not really a winger) and was far too casual at times.

Foster - 8 the red card was stupid and borne of frustration but it didn't affect the result so not marking him down for that. He was superb otherwise, his running, strength, hold up play and movement was all superb and he finished off a perfectly good goal very nicely indeed.

Berge - 8 tipped the balance in our favour and looked much more at home in a 3, as we knew he would

Zaroury - 6 big step up and he's finding it so.

Good game this and one we deserved to win. Bringing back Taylor and Brownhill immediately made us look more balanced and cohesive, and after riding out a rough first 20 mins, we looked the better side for lost of the game.

Robbed by incompetence yet again. Howard will be needing Vincent's phone number this week.

It's absolutely mad that pretty much every Burnley fan said Berge was best suited to a three in midfield and it's taken the best part of a month for him to have played there.

Trafford 6 he's been beaten by some crackers, but I'd still play Muric.
Roberts 7
Al-Dakhil 6 very sloppy with his passing, but ok defensively.
Beyer 7 grew into it after his time out, looks like he may be out again
Taylor 8
Cullen 7
Brownhill 7 much more aggression with him in midfield
Gudmundsson 6 should be taking the free kicks instead of Brownhill
Koleosho 8 outstanding talent, still work to do on his delivery, but already getting better at it. MOM
Amdouni 8 quality player
Foster 7 great game marred by one silly reckless moment, but it's a lesson he'll learn

Zaroury 6 wasted a great chance
Berge 7 good cameo

Trafford 7 - not much to do but was tidy
Roberts 7 - made us feel more solid
Al-Dakhil 7 - much better at CB and hope that helps his confidence
Beyer 7 - a bit of a struggle, the mess where they nearly scored was because he was on his wrong foot, but knuckled down
Taylor 8 - big error by Vinny to leave him out, astonished he was playing
Cullen 7 - didn’t look exposed at all which bodes really well
Brownhill 8 - a deeper role and did it very well
Gudmundsson 7 - key role
Koleosho 9 MOM - this kid had them on toast, there was fear in the eyes, one of those where you had to be there to see it. His end product is improving and that was an assist in all but name. Signing of the season. Not for us. For the world. £2.5m.
Amdouni 9 - this lad is also going to be a huge star, I can sense it. Natural finisher but was also busy including in his own area. A top signing but by God we have made so many
Foster 7 - strong again and unfortunate for the goal then the red, could have been a pen.

Zaroury 7 - looked good, interesting to see how the lack of raw pace affects him compared to peers
Berge 8 - improved us when he came on, I like JBG but Berge is twice the player, he has to start
Tresor - no mark but I liked him, showed a bit of pace, skill, trickery and passing

Well that was a fantastic evening. It was all I wanted and more. We can excuse the result as being bad luck, whether the officials were right or not. We can also excuse minor mistakes like Koleosho giving it away for their goal. I posted before the game when telling Newcastle off for negativity that we would finish about 12th, level with Forest as we are similar quality sides. I didn’t see anything tonight to convince me I was wrong. We’ll be fine. We can see that now. But playing a proper defence helps Vinny, take note.

Trafford 6 (once again he couldn't do anything about the goal, but his command of his 6 yard box isn't inspiring and his distribution is rather ponderous and at times rather scary!)
Roberts 7
Al Dakil 7
Beyer 8
Taylor 8
Cullen 8
Brownhill 8
JBG 6 (poor from him imo)
Amdouni 7
Foster 8 (mom)
Koleosho 8 (brilliant first half, but faded second half unfortunately)

Berge 8 (having thought for 3 games he's not all that, I was extremely impressed with his cameo last night. More of the same please!)
Zaroury 5 (-1 for blazing over an extremely presentable chance!)

After a shaky opening 20 minutes when we were constantly bringing unnecessary pressure on ourselves with loose balls and poor decision making, we suddenly exploded into the game and looked a really good side. Offensively we've already shown potential this season and last night we really showed how dangerous we can be going forward. We're still not the finished article defensively and better teams might have made us pay, but we were certainly better all round last night and it's probably no coincidence that Taylor and Brownhill got starts. Ultimately we can feel aggrieved we didn't bag the win. F**k VAR!

At last somebody has seen our terrible set up at corners. 5 players surrounding Trafford and nobody from our players did anything about it, even the commentators said they had never seen anything like it, yet the Muric lovers on here complaining that Trafford didn't come and collect those balls.

Trafford 7 Looked much more comfortable
Roberts 7 Solid, reliable, involved. Love Connor
Al-Dakhil 7 Improving every week
Beyer 8 Making the step up to Prem standard very easily.
Taylor 8 Welcome back Charlie, missed you more than you know.
Cullen 7 able to play with Browny legs doing so much work.
Brownhill 7 really allows the rest of the team to play, he does so much dirty work.
Gudmundsson 6 fine
Koleosho 8 what a talent he is. Wow
Amdouni 7 Looks a real star in the making.
Foster 7 Just a good player. What will he be worth by next summer?

Zaroury 5 Miles off it, needs to have a chat with Foster
Berge 7 Really affected the game when he came on, will be a battle between him and Tresor to replace Foster on Saturday.
Tresor Might have a top player there. Looks excellent.

VAR 0 Typically embarrassing. Literally hate VAR. What is the purpose?? It just seems to make things worse.

Trafford 6 One decent save but dominates his 6 yard box at corners even less than Muric at his most reticent

Roberts 8 Solid performance
Al Dakhil 8 Very good performance. Handled Awoniyi well
Beyer 7 Decent but got caught twice trying to stroll forward with the ball which could have cost us.
Taylor 8 MOM A fine return for CT, doing what he does best

Gudmundsson 5 Never up with the pace of the game
Cullen 8 Grew into the game and dominated midfield in a very good second half.
Brownhill 7 Like Cullen grew into the game and grew in confidence with the rest of the team after an anonymous first 20 minutes.

Amdouni 8 A superb first 45 minutes. Not sure if he was stopped from playing in the second half or just ran out of steam.
Foster 7 Not everything came off for him but his work-rate was outstanding. He'll be missed for the next 3 games.
Koleosho 8 Once he manages to add a final ball to his obvious pace and trickery this lad will be a talent.

Berge 8 Our most influential player after he came on.
Zaroury 6 Tidy enough but didn't have many opportunities to run at defenders
Tresor 7 Looks to have a very good touch

All in all a very heartening display that probably deserved more than we got.

An enjoyable watch despite the officiating as we got the balance right between forward intent and solidity. No way is it a handball from Berge but, on reflection Foster's sending off is the thing that has frustrated me most. Not the decision but the impact of losing him for 2 PL games. On the plus side, it gives us a chance to see more of our creative talent on Saturday and...it's only Man U.

Awful first 20 mins. Much better after the break and mute controlled and calm on the ball. Dreadful refereeing ( as expected with Jones) and a buffoon on VAR. Robbed of a good goal. At least have some consistency.

Trafford 6 wanted Muric in but could do nothing about goal.
Roberts 7
Al Dakhil 6
Beyer 7
Taylor 7 wanted him back in. Played well and we looked more balanced.
Cullen 7
Brownhill 7 wanted him in but get him off free kicks
JBG 6
Amdouni 7 great strike
Koleosho 8 mom raw but rapid and great work for goal
Foster 7 played well again. Robbed of goal and probably frustrated.

Subs
Zaroury 6
Berge 7 looks much better further up pitch

Plenty to work with here.

Trafford 7 - A few good saves, made himself available to receive passes. No chance with their goal.
Roberts 7 - Lively, energetic and integral to how we play when stepping into the midfield.
Al Dakhil 6 - Didn't look very assured on the ball early on and thought he was struggling when up against the physical Awoniyi.
Beyer 7 - Caught in possession early on, from which they nearly scored, but played well the rest of the night
Taylor 8 - A round peg in a round hole, did the job defensively that provided Koleosho with the freedom to attack.
Cullen 6 - Struggled early on in the game, passing sloppy and not finding much space to influence the game from. Got better as the game went on.
Brownhill 7 - So much energy and drive. Played the ball through to Koleosho to set up the goal too. Him and Taylor on the left really do let Koleosho off the lease.
Koleosho 8 - Quick and direct, had their full back on toast. Great set up for the goal. Tired later on, which to be expected for someone so young.
Zeki 8 - Still no sure where he actually plays, like a roaming AM tonight. very deep at times, even for his goal where you would expect an attacker to be slightly further forward. Interesting player.
Gudmundson 7 - Intelligent play from him tonight, good at winning freekicks and getting us up the pitch.
Foster 5 - Clearly frustrated by the disallowed goal, but you can't get away with elbowing a defender. silly and now misses 3 games.

Zahoury 6 - Suffering from a lack of game time (from his own red card it is worth adding). should have done better with one particular chance he had.
Berge 7 - Looks good in more advanced role. Getting up to speed off the bench.
Tresor - Looked lively. Interested to see what he could offer with more minutes on the pitch.

Trafford 7 Would prefer him to be a bit more commanding in his box but he is learning.
Roberts 6 Battled well and his long throw is another weapon
Al Dakhil 6 It's a steep learning curve stepping into the PL
Beyer 7 Steady game with mixed results on his runs through midfield
Taylor 8 Good to have him back
JBG 5 Very quiet
Cullen 7 Mr consistent
Brownhill 7 We need his energy every game
Koleosho 8* I said elsewhere, this boy gets you off your seat!
Amdouni 8 Quality strike and a quality player
Foster 6 Unlucky not to score but stupid for the Red card

Berge 7 Frightened them with his strength
Zaroury 5 Not firing yet for some reason

No point whining about decisions, it changes nothing. We are on the board and starting to create chances but need to use the ball better under pressure.

Told you Berges best position was inside right and not CDM.

Trafford - 6
So far his best game, although he didn't have much to do. Some nice saves and passing was good once again but as many have noted, he needs to work on box organisation during set-pieces.

Taylor - 7
Can't believe he wasn''t even in the squad for the first three games. It's obvious that he is not the most tehnical player we have but his defensive reactions have been really good. It's nice to see last ditch tackles like he used to have when Dyche was our manager.

Beyer - 7
Struggled at first and lost the ball in a dangerous position but really grew into game. Was more solid on the ball and had a few famous runs in the opposition half. Hopefully it was just a cramp and not another injury.

AAD - 7
Had a few good blocks in the box.

Roberts - 7
Also had a tough 15-20 minutes but improved as the game went on.

Brownhill - 7
It's very useful to have his enegry and leadership.

Cullen - 7
More like Cullen from last season.

Koleosho - 8 MOTM
Unplayable in first half but faded later. Just needs to work on this decision making because I think he tries to hard at times but still looks unreal for his age and number of senior appearances.

JBG - 6
Useful off ball but not sure he offers much going forward. Don't get me wrong. Can't see him starting in the long run.

Amdouni - 7
Brilliant finish for the goal. One thing I noticed is that he was a lot more involved than in the previous games.

Foster - 7
I think he would have been my MOTM once again if it wasn't for the stupid red card. He is very strong, tehnical, presses well and was a threat all evening. Unlucky not to score again.

Subs:

Berge - 7
Very impressive cameo.

Zaroury - 6
Not bad but lost the ball a few times.

Tresor - 7
Nice touches, looks like a class player.

Kompany - 8
Learns quickly regarding formation and squad picking.
