Re: Charlie Taylor
Played well tonight but might be an idea to give him a few more games before hailing him as the next Maldini.
What does “he’s never let us down” even mean ? His form in the last couple of years under Dyche was not great. His assist and goal record is the poorest amongst any of our full backs in the last ten years - including Erik Pieters.
That doesn’t mean he’s ever let us down btw - as you can never question his commitment.
But he was an important player for us last season and hopefully he can be again this year.

Huge relief to see CT back last night. He had an excellent game and gave us the balance so obviously missing in the previous 3 games.

I actually thought he turned into one of our better performers under Dyche and seemed to get better the more he played.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 3:08 amPlayed well tonight but might be an idea to give him a few more games before hailing him as the next Maldini.

He did well last night defensively and seemed to move the ball faster than previously. I think VK should let him keep his spot and see how he goes.
Re: Charlie Taylor
For all his flaws going forwards he is a very good 1v 1 defender and that is what we need on transition when we get broke on

Great to see him back, and even more impressive that Kompany is humble enough to show when he's made an error and can change things.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Brownhill certainly wasn't comfortable on the left for at least the first 20mins, but grew into it and he's tenacity at times broke up the start of their attacks, but was assured that Taylor was always behind him, something we've missed desperately since he's been left out, as I've said already Charlie's shirt to lose, possibly we can play a more attacking system in a handful of games but in the majority we need him in that left back spot doing what he does best, well done chaz.burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 8:55 amwe looked so much more solid with Taylor and Browny. Re: Charlie Taylor
I can still see why VK doesn't fancy him.
He is great in the tackle and defensively, but he gets caught dithering when he's on the ball.
He had a good game last night, and there isn't a lot of competition for the spot. Utd are crap at the press, so Saturday should be in his favour.

I don’t think he dithered on the ball last night, he played the simple passes and played koleosho in over the top a few times. It’s the most solid back 4 has looked toColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 9:18 amI can still see why VK doesn't fancy him.

Re: Charlie Taylor
The bottom line is that we had to change our defensive line-up and bring Charlie Taylor into the side.
We had zero chance of surviving with the defence that we saw in the first 3 games.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Step backwards for me similar to when people were calling to play him at left back last year and for Lowton to play right back at times when we looked a bit fragile at the back.
If its a short term fix whilst VK works on how he can fit in someone like Delcroix into a flexible defence then fine but one of VK biggest strengths for me is that he is forward thinking, brave and skilled enough to sacrifice some short term gains for long term improvements and progression.
I suspect Taylor is going to be a starter in the short term so hopefully he proves me wrong and this draw is a kick start to Burnley starting to show themselves as a more than competent Premier League team

Re: Charlie Taylor
The problem wasn't with the players VK picked, but in the way they were set up, with the high line and slow reaction to the balls over the top.
Charlie had a good game, but we didn't press so high, and Brownhill playing deeper with his tackling, contributed just as much to the improvement as CT did.
If we want to play the style VK wants us to, then CT isn't the long term solution, although I'd definitely start him against utd.

Re: Charlie Taylor
I thought Taylor was excellent last night. I'm sure he's had more dogged, eye-catching defensive performances in the past, perhaps in some of our more heroic backs-to-the-wall rearguard actions - but I thought last night was as mature and complete a performance as we've seen from Charlie in a Burnley shirt. His passing was thoughtful and well measured, he received the ball under pressure and dealt with it well, he defended 1v1 really well (particularly given that for all Koleosho was excellent for the hour he was on the left wing, he didn't give Charlie loads of help), and managed the game really well in some of the trickier moments.
I don't know why he was left out earlier in the season, but it does seem odd and certainly we'd have stood a better chance in all 3 of our opening fixtures had we lined up with Roberts and Taylor in the full back roles. He should certainly start for the foreseeable.

Worth noting Taylor is a proven experienced decent quality Premier league left back . Many of new squad members have been playing their trade against taxi drivers and security guards .

Aye but this time last year Spijed was telling us we had no chance of promotion with our dodgy defence whilst you was calling for VK to be more pragmatic and play Taylor and Lowton at full backCoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 8:39 pmZero, and if we return to those suicide tactics then the result will be the same.
Thankfully VK didn't have the pair of you as his special advisors last season
CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:47 pmIt’s getting rather repetitive
For me -and I’ve been saying it for the past five-seven games or so, we need to be more pragmatic.
Swap Cullen for a striker(or play Tella dedicated striker and Zaroury on the left) with Brownhill dropping into midfield & Chaz to left back with Lowton coming back in at right back.
Lowts-THB-Beyer-Taylor
———Cork-Brownhill
All of a sudden we won’t look small in both boxes and have a bit more know now in now to see off games.

I think I said that precisely once and I don’t know which specific thread you decided to pull that up from but I bet it was one of the first few weeks of the season - certainly not later on. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was after Preston away after conceding to a set piece.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 8:47 pmAye but this time last year Spijed was telling us we had no chance of promotion with our dodgy defence whilst you was calling for VK to be more pragmatic and play Taylor and Lowton at full back

Roberts was absolutely toss at the beginning of last season as well there’s no denying that. He even admitted that himself as much.
I think I called for Lowts once and was happy with Maatsen (one of his biggest fans) after we did start cutting out a few mistakes and looked a bit more organised.. not for once suggesting that it’s set and forget more evolve into a more expansive system rather than throw the chance of points in some games away.
Just to add:
Do you actually want to try and offer any opinion and do anything of note or just be a forum cock? Very boring
Re: Charlie Taylor
Yes, I thought Taylor was terrific last night at both ends of the pitch. So important to have at least some premier league experience in the team and he along with Brownhill made a real difference last night. Hope he stays fit all season.

You've spent the last few months nit picking at almost everything and then get defensive and nasty if you get called out on it.
Personally I'll be disappointed if Taylor ends up as a regular first teamer as it'll feel like a step backwards but if thats where we are Im sure VK will work and get the best out of the situation

Re: Charlie Taylor
I think suggesting that we need a bit of steel in after we just conceded 11 goals in 3 games at home is anything but knee jerk - anyhow low and behold with Chaz and Browny back in (albeit playing a ‘lesser’ side) we all of a sudden looked a lot less susceptible to the counter - go figure.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 9:05 pmI've offered my opinion on the subject but just noting how plenty of people were sniping about our attacking style last season and making knee jerk reactions similar to those this season.

I have ‘nit picked’ some of our business and set up at home against very good counter attacking sides.
Not sure how that’s almost everything but whatever
Edit - not to mention Brighton are cool playing 30 yr old Dubk and a 37 yr old Milner, and a 35 yr old Lallana.
A bit of experience in this league can help tremendously

I wrote him off too soon playing 'in this system'. On reflection he fits very nicely with what we need this year. Still stand by the opinion that he didn't offer as much as Maatsen did last season when he did play. But we need solidity this year. Charlie seems to fit the bill.
Great to see him back.

Re: Charlie Taylor
It’s easy to forget what an excellent old school LB Taylor is , his tackling and taking players to the byline is quality . He didn’t offer as much as Maatsen did in the champ, though more to do with IM’s forward ability being excellent and not a lot of games under the cosh .
Re: Charlie Taylor
He gives us some much needed height at the back as well, won a lot of headers the other night. Part of his game often unnoticed.

Re: Charlie Taylor
I think his passing was actually really good against Forest - definitely seems to have improved on that front.
Certainly didn’t look laboured and switched play numerous times with a few cross field balls.
His 1vs1 defending is easily the best that we have in the side right now, I think it’s needed coming up against some of the wingers/wing backs that have ran us ragged or will look to in our games. He really did keep Elanga quiet.
