(The Top of the Pops crowd looked a bit underwhelmed!)

Always laugh when he sang "Durham Town" ...

When he was a boy he "used to spend his time, sittin on the banks of the river Tyne" ... Durhams on the River Wear 🤣...

RIP Roger Whittaker

A pretty eclectic music career, ended up being the king of German 'schlager' music in his later years.

RIP

I didn't know of his German fame but I did spot that his death was covered earlier and more widely in the German press than in the UK. As you say- he crossed several genres and appealed to audiences in various countries with his music. Very versatile and a very soothing voice (I believe he had many interests outside music too). RIP Mr Whittaker.

Roger lived in Ireland for many years. He moved to France as his wife was suffering with Arthritis and the weather there ,would be a lot better for her. RIP Roger.

The "Last farewell" is a favourite of mine and one I have selected for my funeral. A bit morbid but it has special meaning for me.
RIP Roger.
