Burnley Penalties
It was often said that we didn't get many penalties under Sean Dyche because of the style of play and not getting into the opposition box often enough. Maybe that was the case but .....
Apart from two handballs (Norwich & Luton) we have now played 50 league and cup games since we were last awarded a penalty for a foul, that in the game at West Brom last season when their goalkeeper wiped out Nathan Tella.

If VAR did its job we would have had one for Yates grabbing Foster

Re: Burnley Penalties
We're still not liked, I thought it could change with the high profile management at the club, but that's still not evident, and was apparent in the match commentary on Monday. Nobody's asking for any preferential, just to be on a level playing field at the start of play, but can't see it happening anytime soon unfortunately.

Re: Burnley Penalties
I agree, didn’t look to be any holding to me.
Also thought Fosters reaction was something Barnesy has done 100’s of times and got away with but is a red if caught.
I am pleased that Foster is putting himself about and being more imposing. Just needs to perfect the darker arts.

Can’t think of many we haven’t got that we shoulda had. If Foster was given that, we’d have 10 penalties per game.

Probably more Don Goodman than the actual commentator.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:18 amWe're still not liked, I thought it could change with the high profile management at the club, but that's still not evident, and was apparent in the match commentary on Monday. Don't remember who in particular but maybe, but it was very obvious, forest forest forest, until just before we got the goal you'd have thought we'd no threat at all on the pitch and no chance of winning the game.dougcollins wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:23 amProbably more Don Goodman than the actual commentator.

Re: Burnley Penalties
Even though we’ve had Benson, Zaroury, Tella and now Koleosho running at players in the box I can’t remember jumping up screaming PEN at all.
The holding that goes on in the area drives me mad and I was hoping VAR would see pens awarded and bring and end to it but just as pros lie to themselves about needing to elbow somebody in the face to make a header they accept holding as being part of the game. It shouldn’t be.

So just that one really (which half the posters in this thread think probably wasn’t a penalty anyway)?

Re: Burnley Penalties
Has anyone got an inkling who the current pen taker would be? In the squad J Rod and possibly Redmond I think have taken pens but they are not regulars at present, an obvious candidate doesn't jump out

Re: Burnley Penalties
Interesting one - only Jay Rod remains at the club who has taken one for us.
Re: Burnley Penalties
If arms round a player stopping him from moving forward is a foul then it was a penalty. If it is allowed then why do players always get a yellow card for stopping a run in midfield by holding. Foster was trying to move to where he thought the ball was going and was clearly stopped by Yates. Sadly he decided to take the law into his own elbow instead of collapsing as if shot which would almost certainly have resulted in a penalty and a red for Yates. Please note Yates collapsed like a Mike Tyson opponent which contributed to the red for Foster
I guess the moral of this story is He who dives best Wins !!

Re: Burnley Penalties
In the very few we've had, we seem to have an extremely good record. I think Cornet in 21/22 at West Ham was the last to miss?
No idea who the last one prior to that was. Barnes, Wood and Jay always put them away.

Re: Burnley Penalties
Should have had one first game of season but apparently you can grab shirts on the go as long as its not too long according to commentators

You could be right. Was that when they were messing with the penalty spot?

Re: Burnley Penalties
I know they don't count but just as a matter of interest Brownhill and Taylor have both taken them in shootouts for us. Brownhill scored 1 missed 1 and Taylor scored 1.

I have been wondering all season but needn't lose too much sleep really It is useful for the Prediction Leagues to know who would step up though.

I'm not sure why I'm helping you out, or why you are still hanging around a rival clubs forum though

VAR looks at our badge and says NO!
