Man Utd Away Fans
I know how much people hate them but you have got admit Uniteds away fans are the best in the country and have been for years, basically forever ?
Loudest
Most songs
Take the most
Obviously they will sell out everywhere being the biggest club in the world, but one thing is that Man Utds away sections are usually full of proper Mancs, they never lost there identity and celebrate a goal against Burnley like they would a goal against Liverpool.
Always the best set of fans to come to the Turf. No matter where they are in the league.

Live next door to two brothers who follow them religiously (must be in their 50's now, been following since they were kids). They'll be due back from Munich today. Two top blokes and both do loads in the community round here for grass roots football. I don't hate them in the slightest!

Very good OP. Id say Man Utd are the only away fans in England who top Leeds away support although its a close one

As much as I generally dislike the club, I have to say in my opinion Arsenal are right up there with any team in the country for away support.
Always sell out in the league games, and take big numbers to European games too without having the global appeal that a Manchester United, or Liverpool has for example.

Really fantastic vocal away support, Hooe they are spewed off on Saturday though.

The ones who call 606 and a high proportion of the ones online are morons. Funny how the weird ones are usually the ones who aren't from Manchester. As if they're compensating for something.

Agree with the OP United away fans are class.
Should be a good atmosphere on Saturday night.

I guess it's easy to be a brilliant supporter when you're following one of (arguably) the most successful clubs in Europe over the past 50 years. Personally I find myself admiring the 28,000 who turn up to watch Derby every week (for example) a little bit more.

Sadly against Utd the atmosphere for the majority of games against them is quite 1 sided. Always has the feeling of our section of the cricket field watching Utd fans (possibly wondering why they are all singing at a very similar pace and the same son as each other) and from the Longside si all you can normally hear. The Villa game was very similar too.

I suppose it depends on where you are in the ground. Where I am in CFS near to the Longside you certainly don't hear away fans all that loudly. But Utd are probably the best, not hard though is it when you've had decades of success.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: Sadly against Utd the atmosphere for the majority of games against them is quite 1 sided. And as I said earlier, you very rarely hear them at Old Trafford, on my visits there with the Clarets it was us singing pretty much all game and 70,000 Utd fans in almost silence.

I know you’re joking but it makes me laugh when I hear that, the difference in accent between a Geordie & someone from Hartlepool or Middlesbrough is like someone from Burnley and someone from Leeds. I think you need to spend a bit of time around the area to pick it up, but they’re nothing like each other.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:46 pmHe's thinking of Boro fans, easily done as they all sound the same.

Most of the list have grown their fan base in recent times but it helps limiting away ends to 3k or less.
Re: Man Utd Away Fans
Easy to support a club like that. Perhaps that's why Eric Cantona is usually elected their "best player ever" by their fans.

It was in the Premier league. First time we had played them for ages and I was surprised they didn't sell out. Leeds didn't sell all their tickets either one year when they had whole of Cricket Field. Think it was a Sunday match.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:22 pmNot all that long ago when we played Newcastle in a Championship night game they nowhere near sold out at the Turf..

I was at that game. Good performance. It followed the midweek 5-0 FA Cup quarter final replay defeat at Hillsborough as far as I remember. 41,000 at Hillsborough and a bit of a nightmare for the Clarets. I think it was a stooping header from Donovan.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:48 pmAnd it was a Saturday game. Won 1-0 with a Terry Donovan goal. Re: Man Utd Away Fans
While a club the size of Man Utd should always fill their end , they are certainly a top away following , as for many (esp cups etc ) it’s only chance a large group of proper fans can see their club . There’s none of that happy clappy Disney esque everyone wearing colours in their away following either ,slightly ironic for a corporate machine like MU.
Re: Man Utd Away Fans
I know this isn't really what this thread is about but had to settle for watching the game in a pub quite far away from Burnley tonight... surrounded by numpty after numpty saying things like "Rah, man like Rarshy has these wastemen on lock"... They couldn't point to Manchester on a map, and they're a large reason why I'd prefer Burnley to always remain a little bit crap so we don't attract too many of that sort.

United away are largely excellent for songs. Unusually subdued by their standards tonight after a day on the pop. The anti Glazer songs stopped after the first goal.

Not many teams can shut them up but our young team did just that. There was a period in the 1st half when they were absolutely silent as we passed the ball around and through Man Utd.
Fernades Worldy ripped them out of their stupor and it was business as usual after that with their unmatchable catalouge of songs being sung by everyone using the same words and at a sustainable speed.

Not sure about that. I think if you asked a random group of Clarets (and probably other clubs) then Leeds would come out on top.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 12:29 amThe most revolting club and set of fans on the planet.

I dislike Utd fans, but it's more the glory hunters who pop up with derogatory comments when they sneak a 1-0 against us and disappear under a rock for a week when their team loses that do it for me
I'd add Brighton to your list too...

Probably quiet because seemingly they'd (some) been out on the lash that day & some would have got up mega early tanked up & got back in the early hours the following day after, nothing do with us shutting them up the late kick off & early start & alcohol probably would have done the trick alone, snoozing on the coaches back in a zombified like state.JohnMac wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 1:18 pmNot many teams can shut them up but our young team did just that. Pete Boyle is his name. Drinks in The Peveril of the Peak in Manchester quite often, very creative song / chant writer to be fair to him, a poet to some extent.
