All we need to change is one thing, Trafford for Muric.

Muric creates chances with spotting precision long balls to bypass midfield. Trafford doesn't his distribution is woeful.

Yes and so was our football. With Foster in or another capable striker I think we coukd have done them. What a player young Al Dakhil is.
He has lots of potential, but I wouldn't go so far as to say what a player he is. David Jones, undeservedly, used to get pelters for playing it sideways and backwards, only twice in the whole game can I remember Al D playing it forward.

VK's brilliant for us , the only question I'd like to ask him is why he switched Koleosho after the full back had already got a booking . Onwards and upwards .

I lost count in the first half when Al Dakhill got the ball with loads of space to move forwards but instead turned and passed it back to Trafford.

For my part you can see we are improving game by game, you can also see that we need at times a bit more tempo.. i would at moment play muric ahead of Trafford exactly for that tempo, but Trafford has got quicker as games have gone on. Crosses he looks vulnerable at but no more than muric at start..

Finishing as ever in this league will be deciding factor and we were well worth a point if not more today. Utd do not look like the utd of old but still have players who can change a game with a bit of virtuoso skill. Thought vinny got subs right today though probably could have brought benny on 10 mins earlier.

Will not be a dull season

It wasn’t his passing tonight that was imperious, it was his defending.

Bottom third teams like Luton, Sheff Utd, Bournemouth, Wolves, Forest, Fulham at home.

Played some great stuff tonight but the outcome is the same as an ugly defending game under Dyche where we lose 0-1. The positive is these players will get better and some will be worth more individually but I don’t see where the wins are coming from and there is a very good chance we will be relegated.

What a depressing write off of a season this is already shaping up to be after the magnificent highs of last season which are slowly being expunged from the memory bank.

I really don't understand what we're up to. All that money spent. Frightening times.

Can't be long before we're cut adrift.

Robbed against forest , and probably deserved a point if not three tonight against man United . Lots of positives again, more learning curves too. I think we win that game easily if foster plays

What a weird post.

I’m happy with the performance tonight. I thought we played really well, but we’re possibly missing Foster. We’re actually missing a Haaland to be honest, but we seem to be a lacking a real number 9?

Despite that the rest of the game we played well. It’s coming tighter.

Football is a simple game really - and “IF” is a big word but IF Foster played in that game tonight - we win SIMPLE !

When do questions need to be asked ???? Simply an outrageous question. We are a young, up and coming, brilliant team that will only get better. And like last season when we click, and we will, we will be awesome - I’ve seen enough.

We have just outplayed Man UTD - think about that !

The issue of not investing in a goalscorer coming home to roost now. We've known since March we were going up but a goalscorer seems to have not been sought.

Thought we played well. I have several questions.

What the hell was the marking about for the disallowed goal ?

Why was LK switched to the right when he had Dalot on a booking?

Why did it take so long to bring Benson on, especially when Lindelof when to full back?

Why are people having a go at Trafford? He's done nothing wrong. He can't pass like Muric, no keeper can.

kompany is spot on with his assessment of the games so far.
Its him seeing progress, knowing what is required, and eventually implementing the changes to get points.
its a brand new and very young team playing at the highest level in club football.
today was a fine performance, just a whisker away from drawing with a top side.
some of our play was fantastic to watch. I was very satisfied with the standard, and have no doubt we will pick up points very soon.

Bizarre OP. We look stronger, more dangerous and balanced each game we play the 3 pts won't be long - we've been done hy 2 worldies in the last 2 games.

I never thought we'd play Utd and doninate as much as we did tonight.

So MANY positives

Answer: never.

Even if we get relegated - just as it was in 2014 with Dyche. This is a really young team, and manager. There’s a lot of naivety but also a lot of energy and massive talent. We are going to be right in this relegation mix all year but we need to back them. They’ll keep getting better.
This, this season is a free hit and a learning experience for all in my eyes, if we go down I expect us to come back up better prepared.

Why is there no leader on the pitch. All forever looking towards VK?
Anyone know if Sky are doing a Mission to Burnley 2 this season? Some poster mentioned that they were still filming at the very start of this season. Noticed a few hand held cameras around the pitch and dugout tonight. Who knows Sky could have suggested to the PL that a challenging series of opening fixtures could result in good TV showing tensions within the club not to mention the boardroom, and their request was acceded to. I cannot recall other clubs over the years in the PL having such a tough series of opening fixtures.

If you cast your mind back as far as last week, you might remember Newcastle's first five fixtures this season were against teams finishing 1-5-6-7-9 last year. Ours were 1-3-7-8-16.

Do you think BT/TNT would be happy about Sky Sports cameras filming one of their matches? I think the reason there were more cameras than usual was probably because it was televised live.

There are some of the most insane negative posts I’ve ever seen on this thread tonight! Luckily it’s from a minority, some I don’t believe are Burnley fans.
We played exceptionally well tonight! A world class move and finish by one of the premierships best players. We nullified Rashford, and limited Man Utd and their superstars to very little. Trafford made a quality save early on and didn’t have a chance with the goal.
At least give our players and manager time to adapt to a level way above anything they have played at.
We are improving every game!

Let's wait until we play the teams around us and we have a settled team at the moment we get picked off by counter attacking teams who are clinical in front goal . All i will say he should have left the wingers as they were as utd full back was on a yellow.

I just don’t know where goals are gonna come from. It’s fine signing players or not signing players when getting promoted but the simple fact is, our starting 11 is missing 28 goals from last season. Spunking so much on a GK that hasn’t improved us when it could have be used is other areas is alarming. Benson for me has to start. He at least had 2 efforts last night (1 way over, 1 comfortably saved) but that was closer than we were ever getting without him. He also won so many points with his world class strikes last season, many, many games in the Championship we failed to walk the ball in and it was down to him to do something special time and time again. So why we think we can just walk the ball in against world class opposition I’m not understanding.

I don't get why we always end up with several threads discussing the same thing after each game. You can just keep it to the match thread. Even if a thread is made asking something different, the discussion moves to the same thing every time anyway.

Problem with Benson is that he rarely lasts for longer than an hour and lacks off ball contribution. Roberts was isolated and heavily targeted against Villa, the only game Benson started so far.

Just read this on the United forum:

All I kept thinking was: How is it that a team with a fraction of our spending power and generally 2nd tier talent can have better patterns of play, superior technical quality, smarter decisions, and bravery?”

About right I thought.

Stupid question and more than likely insincere.

The fixture list has either been unkind or kind to us.

Unkind because we will have the description 'basement club' attached to us which irritates.

Kind because there is no better way to assess and learn than from the best teams and it has given Kompany breathing space to develop the team early on without criticism.

We would likely have been beaten anyway against these clubs at home such is the gulf in class so nothing has been lost.

I know that last bit will stick in some throats

Stats are good…
Noticeable that we have 2/3rds possession yet utd only have 1 shot less and same amount on target as we have. Although I'd expect this won't or shouldn't happen when we play the team's around us.

Its valid feedback, but what hurts is that PL clubs, to quote Sean Dyche , will find a way to win, even though they may on the day not be as good as you. A draw last night would I feel have been a fair result but Utd found a way to beat us

We need to be patient for while yet at least.
I think it will take at least another 5 or 6 games before
VK will know what our best starting 11 is or will be.
And even then it’s a squad game so we’re talking
about our best 14 or 15.
Look at Forest last year. They managed to turn it around
but it took them some time.
I think we can do it but we need to keep the faith.
I'd suggest he's close to that now.

Yes they did, but the atmosphere isn't great really. I guess our slower build up doesn't always help that but it certainly isn't "hell" like VK wanted.
Maybe lots of people too busy trying to filter their own idea's of what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong. We absolutely smashed the championship last season and were just permanently on a high. Even though we were only out of the Premier league for 1 season it seems to have moved up a level, and I think lot's are just a little bit shocked by it. But I agree, not the hell that vk wanted

Questions will start to be asked on a night when we don't outplay Manchester United, I think.
Totally agree with this.

I’ve said each game that there are players in the opposition who have played more games at Turf Moor than some of our players.

It’s a big step up from Championship to Premier League so players and manager need time to settle.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would question VK. Really!!! I've watched Burnley for 62 years and I was only thinking at half time how incredible we were. Our movement and tempo was on another planet. Yes can The reality is that Tbe naive and look vulnerable at times, but this is an emerging side and needs time. It's part of the learning process. You can't just waive a magic wand. Perhaps it's part of modern society where everything has to be instant.
The reality is that we may struggle this season with the inevitable consequence but I for one hope VK's there to bring us back stronger. He is the most important signing we've made, possibly ever.

The only question I’d be asking is when can we get him to sign an extended contract. Even if the unthinkable happens and we don’t survive I’d still be 100% behind him. My view is that we’re very lucky to have him and long may it continue.

I definitely missed us outplaying them I think it was an even game decided by a brilliant piece of skill, but I think overall a draw would have been a fairer result in representing the effort applied.

I thought we were great last night but we wasted two really good chances. It's an unforgiving league if you don't take those kind of chances.

Not City, United, Spurs or Villa.
He asked which games we should expect to win, not lose.

So again, for all you "we don't stand a chance / write it off / free hit" types... who SHOULD we be allowed to be thinking about beating?

I don't recall this attitude in 2009/10 or any season going forward until about 2018 when Dyche was in full Dyche mode...
