Our Set Piece Coach
Our Set Piece Coach
Has anyone noticed an improvement ? I think free kicks and corners have been pretty poor overall.

Stick Ekdal in the box on the end of Tresor set pieces please when available .
Not sure why Bronwhill takes set pieces as he very rarely gets one right.

Same paradox as VAR. it’s still the same human beings executing the tasks, so they can be as fancy as they like - if the corner doesn’t beat the first man, is overhit, or is put on a plate for the keeper to claim then it doesn’t matter what master plan you’ve cooked up
Re: Our Set Piece Coach
Was thinking that myself ,how many goals have we scored or conceded since our super set piece coach arrived?
Re: Our Set Piece Coach
I'm more concerned about ho vulnerable we are at defending set pieces, look like we could concede every one.
Attacking wise tho we aren't trying anything new

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
As long as he tells Brownhill to stay well away from our free kicks then I’m happy

For me we seem vulnerable at our own corners when it breaks down we get hit on the counter

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
I’m assuming this is Richard bredice who walks past me a lot on the longside and I’m dying to ask him wtf is going on with them.
I don’t mind some variety (think we got a bit stale under dyche - some variety was needed) but we seem incapable of whipping a decent ball in to the box that beats the first man and our short corners routines invariably amount to noting or the ball back at Trafford’s feet.
I think we’re doing brilliantly but goodness me, ck’s and GK’s are woeful.

We used to get a good return from corners under the boring Dyche era with Tarks and others but not any more unfortunately
Re: Our Set Piece Coach
No-one has ever had the amount of confidence Josh Brownhill has ten seconds before he fires his sixth set-piece into the first man.

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
They'd obviously worked on that corner routine. I still haven't got a clue what they were trying to do, and I'm not sure they do either.
Re: Our Set Piece Coach
Do we need to start a petition or protest 🪧 outside the ground with pitchforks etc stating that Brownhill must not ever take a free kick again!

We never managed to get a cross over from a corner until the last ten minutes.

Two of our corners ended up with the ball at Trafford’s feet.
Was that the aim of the set-piece?

This post SHOULD make the record for “likes”.
Love Brownhill, his energy and work rate is most excellent, but dead balls? Should be after me on the list….

My lad played U15 this morning. FK outside box, top left corner. Next contribution was a corner straight onto a lad's head and in. Even he joked tonight he should go down and take the set pieces.

I can’t for the life of me understand how a professional footballer cannot beat the first man on a corner.
It’s criminal.

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
But the idea of that type of flat corner is to just miss the first man, so it’s only natural that a good proportion won’t do so. That said it’s very frustrating and we were so wasteful from corners last night. It doesn’t help that we don’t seem to pose a threat even when the corner makes it into the box. Some creative thinking required.

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
They try and whip it to just beat the first man so it’s coming in hot and harder to defend.
They could float it every time but they don’t want the ball in the air for a long time. It’s hard to pull off like.
Westwood was a master at corners, totally under appreciated for his ability at whipping them in.
That being said, Brownhill is really poor on set pieces

I think he’s the guy who comes to the edge of the technical area whenever we get a FK or corner. I have to say, I’ve seen no evidence whatsoever that he’s done anything to improve our set pieces, they’re worse than ever!scouseclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 12:53 amDo we actually have a set piece coach???

And as for throw ins - we’re static and on at least 2 occasions last night we were guilty of foul throws. I really do have to ask what on earth he’s doing!

That's one thing I definitely agree with Vincent Kompany on - we don't need a Weghorst type.

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
They worked a short corner 2nd half near BL & JM stand which resulted in Brownhill receiving the ball in a "Benson" position requiring a left foot centre and of course he rarely uses his left foot. Think they passed back and then lost possession. Improvement needed.

by type I assume you mean someone who actually uses those attributes? It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 11:10 amNeed a Weghorst type forward in the box .....we desperately lack height and muscle.
Re: Our Set Piece Coach
I thought the corners short were an improvement, it clear the lack of height when Berge isn't playing, so just throwing it in the middle from a corner is never going to be that productive Given its the first time I've seen them employ this gives me room for hope on an actual goal resulting from a set piece ! However, this "expert" needs to be brave and tell Brownhill where to be in regard to be involved in the receiving part of the set piece and preferably in a defense role should it immediately come out with the opposition attacking, but nowhere near the actual taking of any set piece. Just in my opinion of course

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
If we’re going to keep trying the hard and flat, other teams seem to have a man run to the void in front of the first defender. That way if it’s too low that player can flick it up and on.

Re: Our Set Piece Coach
Watching a lot of NFL I’ve expected a lot of teams to follow their lead and make timing runs.
With all the holding that goes on in the box you could start all your players outside and then depending on the call the designated players make their runs with others staying out for the clearances or to stop fast breaks.
I was disgusted to see a picture of their disallowed goal, from the Longside, between our 6yd line and the edge of the pen area we had 4 players marking fresh air. They’d call it zonal marking, I’d call it anal marking as it is sh1te.
