Trouble after the game

Post by Targetman » Sun Sep 24, 2023 12:11 am

There was fighting taking place outside Aldi on Todmorden Road just a few minutes after the final whistle.
I have parked around there for many years and have never seen any trouble in that area before.

It was going on in the road itself with traffic in both directions halted because of it. There was no sign of any police at all and from what I saw when making my way back to my car it did seem to be quite serious.

It happens at most games. You only have to follow certain accounts to see it's an issue pretty much everywhere every week, just because people might not see it themselves it usually ends up online. Since Covid footy related trouble is through the roof.

Can police be everywhere? I hope they made their way there if bad.

We walked down Tod Road, probably some 20 minutes after the game ended and there was firstly 3 horses heading back towards the turf and further down was about 7or 8 police men and women also heading back towards the ground. We wondered what was or had been happening but there was no sign of anything untowards.

Thought it was strange though.

No police can't be everywhere, and like I mentioned, I've never seen trouble in that area before so thats probably why there was a lack of any police prescence.

I'm sure that the police would have arrived eventually because the violence did seem to be escalating.
It was just so unusual seeing it so far down Todmorden Road almost at the entrance to Towneley Park.

Used to see it quite often when i lived round there in 70s and 80s when football violence was rife.

We walked past there about 10 minutes after the final whistle, no trouble at all, either it ended very quickly, or it hadn't happened yet.

Police were all on the scoreboard corner yet scuffles happened down near the brickies/110 club

Well neither of those things are correct actually.

When the final whistle goes it takes me around 4 or 5 minutes to get from my seat to where I always park at the side of Aldi.

I was around 50 yards from the traffic lights/pelican crossing on Todmorden Road at the corner of Aldi when I became aware of car horns continually pipping.
As I got closer I could hear women screaming and then men shouting and there was a large group of men running along the middle of Todmorden Road fighting.

All this was happening immediatley outside the entrance to the Aldi car park. Traffic was unable to pass in either direction because of what was going on in the road.

The fighting was still going on after I reached my car and drove off along Parliament Street.

There was a large amount of bellends last night. Walking to the turf a bloke with his misses bumped into someone which prompted the bloke to lose his **** at him and try to fight him. On the turf people around us off their faces not interested in the game. Walking back there were a gobby United fans exchanging verbals but it had an atmosphere of trouble not being far away, police walking with both fans exchanging verbals along Yorkshire street which reached a point of us having to walk back on ourselves to get to the tk max traffic lights as the police had cornered a section of United fans rendering us unable to pass. Once crossed over there were fans exchanging verbals with the police before one dickhead started offering another random fan out calling him all the names under the sun because he thought he had been pushed into.

It’s a really sad state of affairs.

It was starting to get a bit out of hand under the culvert, so we swiftly rerouted and headed to The Loom (what a great venue btw)

A friend of mine said a guy in Range Rover was trying to run four people down near Aldi. I saw four guys, Mancs on Tod Road and they looked ready for something.

Police came haring down Parliament st in that direction about 10-15 mins after the game. We'd walked past that junction just a few mins earlier and it was quiet.

6 or 7 police on horses came galloping past us towards the Aldi followed by a couple of cars with sirens on. Didn’t see any trouble mind.

I was passing Aldi when it kicked off between the rival factions. Fizzled out before police got there. More handbags TBH.

So had we, and it was quiet, but apparently I was wrong in what I saw according to targetman

Also looks like a Burnley fan racially abusing man United fans in the stand last night is doing the rounds on social media.

Not a great look for the club

This is simply not true and you should do better.

Clearly saying plastics on that video.

Really shows social media at its worst.

Not sure how you can ‘hear’ given the low sound.

I know the guy and he said plastics.

In fact now you will see most people on social media sticking up for him.

Well no it doesn’t, given the sheer amount of people saying he said plastics. In fact it’s only that United fan account and some scrote followers saying otherwise, if I was him I would consider slander/libel claims so we will see.

I think I’ve been white lioned (where someone says don’t think about a white lion and it’s all you can think about).

I’m just taking RV by his word. The video does look suss but if RV says he didn’t then fair enough.

Very poor that by the United account, really hate trial by social media and how many people are happy to just smear someone off little evidence.

No idea the sounds too poor.

He could have said plastics, I’m tending to lean towards that. As I doubt the fans around him would be so fine if it was anything else.

If you watch it back again the fans around him don’t react at all.

Some folk just cannot wait to criticise and condemn Burnley fans, as if what is witnessed during and after games doesnt go on at every other ground in the country.

I didn't say what you saw was wrong, I said those comments above were incorrect.

You said you were there 10 minutes after the game and maybe it hadn't happened yet or it ended very quickly.

I was there 3 or 4 minutes after the final whistle and it was going on then, according to the bloke parked at the side of me it had started a couple of minutes earlier.

When I set off in my car along Parliament Street the fighting was still taking place and the trouble had been ongoing for around 5 minutes.

Surely that would mean it didn't end very quickly?

When I set off in my car along Parliament Street the fighting was still taking place and the trouble had been ongoing for around 5 minutes.

Surely that would mean it didn't end very quickly?
I am not the only one saying nothing was happening 10 mins after game... If it was happening 5 minutes after, as you say, and I am not disputing what you say...and nothing was happening 4 minutes later...it was over pretty quickly.

Not sure you understand what you’re saying. Maybe it’s your age.
I am saying you were calling people on this very board racist, and continued to do so even when it was pointed out to you several times, by many posters that nothing racist had been said....and now you're critical of people doing similar?
Oh...and don't jump to conclusions about age...it refers to when something was built

It was racist though. Dress it up how you want, I don’t care. Just old people looking out for each other it seems.
