Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
There is no escaping the fact that a small number of people have not helped the club’s reputation in recent weeks, with the lighter thrown, fan entering the playing area and the Aston Villa bus struck, but…
Inside Turf Moor, the other 99.9% of fans have behaved impeccably, and have got behind the team.
So is it right that the screen is used throughout the entire match to promote negative (that’s what they are) messages about behaviour in the stadium?
The messages were played on a loop before the game, during half time and throughout the 90 minutes.
At half time, all of these adverts were read out, as well as continued to be shown on the screen.
Not got them all are shown below as there was at least one more about Hate Crime.
I love that our club is trying to get the cleanest image possible and that it is clear on its zero tolerance approach but I’m not sure what such continued displays of negativity will achieve.
Fans already know all of this…I just sense this is not actually for us, more for the watching world.

Can’t say it really bothers me to be honest, but hopefully they won’t be necessary when 100% of our fans behave themselves.
On the pyros, I love a flare/smoke bomb. Just wish there was “safe” way for them to be allowed.

I was going to run onto the pitch until I saw the message.

It’s quite possible, given recent events, that that we’ve been asked to display these repeated messages by the PL or even the Police.
In any event, other than for the occasional glance at the time, I can’t say I pay much notice the the scoreboards or PA system.

Must’ve done its job then? Did you feel that you needed to see that message 10-20 times, in order for you to decide not to carry out the act?

That would be fair enough but it felt like overkill.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 8:46 amIt’s quite possible, given recent events, that that we’ve been asked to display these repeated messages by the PL or even the Police.

Not fussed, though I suppose it is to demonstrate that the club takes such issues seriously.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
The club were slapped on the wrist after Man City game by the Premier League. There were numerous incidents and the club didn't communicate any appropriate safety messages to the fans.
Against Villa, fans in the James Hargreaves threw missiles onto the pitch after they scored so messages spoeared on the screens and reminder was announced over the PA system.
Last night a kid entered the pitch from the Bob Lord stand at full time.

More importantly why did the font and layout on the big screen change part way through the match, half time maybe?

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
I would guess, following the recent incidents from a tiny minority, that the club had to demonstrate to the FA, PL and/or police that they have an action plan in place to mitigate the risk of them happening again, and that this is one of the actions - not that I think the messages will make any difference to whether a thick supporter decides to throw objects, invade the pitch etc.

Hells teeth, I didn’t think the game was that bad that people would be taking multiple photos of a scoreboard message whilst the game was going on.
Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
Doesn’t bother me in the slightest, and if it stops just one cretin from even contemplating doing those things then it’s job done.

There was plenty of time to look around whilst Trafford/Beyer/ Al Dakhil were prodding the ball to each other.
Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
I find it quite odd that they don't put the teams up during the game at all.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
I saw the teams on there once near the end of the game. I thought it was poor that we didn’t announce their line up directly before kick off either. Had to take a picture of their 15 and zoom in to recall it was that odious chap Reguillon.
Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
The last picture makes the assumption that your mobile will work at the Turf, no chance on the O2 network.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
The half time interval felt like being back at school as the PA went on a 3 minute monologue about what I wasn’t allowed to do. Enter the pitch, throw objects, be antisemitic etc. It reminds me of my local park where there is a sign on the gate as you enter saying ‘dog walkers we are watching you, pick up your mess’ with a big brother style eye.
As said by others though, probably a box ticking exercise and hopefully a one off.

John, I'm more concerned by you inventing words! Kind've?
Seriously though, I noticed it when I got to my seat, but not after that really. As people have said, it shows the PL that we're being 'proactive' now, I suppose.

These messages don't annoy me as much as the actions of the morons that brought them about.
Hopefully, they'll not need to be a permanent feature.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
The club has been told by the PL to have an action plan to try and stop certain behaviours displayed by our fans this season. Specifically throwing objects at players and entering the pitch. Apparently the person that entered the pitch against city was a young lad dared by his mates to do so. A message such as the one in the OP might just do the job to make the next young lad think twice.
I'm not sure why there's a question of 'do you approve'. Of course I do. Why wouldn't you?

Say if I go to the cinema, I would expect to pay my money, then perhaps to be told once not to be respectful to other paying customers by not talking or using a phone during the film and also to not make recordings of the film being played. I would be ok with that. If I was told about these rules 10-20 times throughout the film and if I were approached by an usher who verbally told me during an intermission, I would feel this far too much.
By the way, I agree with much of your response. Cheers for your thoughts.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
Not sure why your post has been deleted jdrobbo. But I'm replying to that.
Were you approached by a steward telling you how to behave yesterday?
Would you be okay with a sign on the wall in the cinema asking people to not talk or use their phone during the film?
If the club did nothing and disruptive behaviour continued, let's say another fan ran on the pitch yesterday, people would be asking why the club isn't doing more. I honestly don't see what the problem is.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
It's reminiscent of the digi-electonic scoreboards of the 80's, when match disorder was at its Zenith. There's no need for these now. People know you're not meant to enter the playing area. I'd rather they just showed the line-ups. It's all adverts, highlights and behavioural control.

Sadly that one is just out of sight for me. The one across the pitch is of no value, with the names so small. The clret and blue colours don't help that aspect.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 6:45 pmI'm ok If I crane my neck to look at the board between the JHU and the JMU, otherwise I agree.

That screen is a joke, like looking through someone's letterbox.
Not that I'm in the habit of doing that.

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
That would be a step in the right direction. I find some people's behaviour in the cinema to be very distracting and irritating..... and it's not just children and teenagers. A lot of people just behave as though they are watching the tv at home, and have no consideration at all for others who have spent good money for a night out.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 12:31 pm

Re: Do you approve of these in-stadium messages?
The messages will not make an iota of difference to the idiots who practice anti social behaviour in the ground, they do however, fulfil an obligation to the Premier League and that’s what it’s all about. Got to be seen to be doing the right thing.
