The pitch

Post by Funkydrummer » Mon Sep 25, 2023 10:17 pm

Not seen it mentioned on here but it was the consensus of opinion
in the Bob Lord on Saturday, for those around us, that the pitch had been
narrowed. The width of the pitch side "runway" was quite a bit wider than normal.

Given our use of wingers on both flanks, we found this at odds with what we were thinking. Maybe it was to try to nullify the threat of Rashford and Co.

Anyone else notice this ?

Are you suggesting that the width was less than in the previous game? Id be amazed if a club is allowed to change the dimensions of the pitch mid-season.

105 by 68 metres (114.8 yd × 74.4 yd)

Can't be altered during the season from this.

I think the days of managers widening and narrowing are in the past. It used to be a weekly note to Roy Oldfield, all clubs did it to suit them rather than the opposition. But I’d be surprised anything more than extra watering is ‘allowed’ these days.

Pitch is a standard size in the Premier League. Only clubs unable to fit in the standard size are permitted to have it smaller.

Me too. I'll have another look next time. Could be the track is wider but has been
expanded towards the stand rather than towards the pitch ???

Any idea why Forest are allowed to have a pitch larger than the standard size?

Not that I'm complaining, that extra 20 cms in length they have would have been the difference between Koleosho being able to set up Amdouni's goal and the ball going out for a goal kick.

Weird that they are micromanaging the width of the pitch and not the surrounds? Example: Roberts came with that long throw reputation but in front of the Longside he has to run uphill for 3 yards. At Forest it’s flat he was fair pinging them in.

It also would of mean Hudson-Odoi's goal went sailing over the bar 😮
