Hard to see where a goal will come from or even a win at this rate

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
God Ramsey hasn’t kept the ball yet. Berge is class but we do slightly lack the ability needed to play this way against the top top sides.
Think we need more of a winger on the left side as everything so far has been Amdouni and Koleosho. Now they are getting doubled up on, get a winger out on the left. Odobert for me.

Worth remembering 4 of the first 5 games have come against teams likely to finish in the top 8 if not the top 6. I'll judge where we are when we've played at least 5 or 6 games against the bottom 10-12 clubs and if we're still looking like a bottom 3 side then I'll start to worry

Said before the game Brownhill needed to have a good game today and he's gone missing in the first half. I'd be tempted to bring Cork on.

Many thanks.
Ha! Ha! Thought so. Last name begins with, let me think... B?
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Looking at the goal replay, what is Taylor doing? Pretty poor defending for someone so experienced.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
I thought at the time Tripps caught him with a great challenge that has always been fine .... but these days are often given as fouls.
I think we are too lightweight like someone else has said. As usual, our style has given them their goal. I just can't see us scoring, as has become routine.
They are diving all over the place and getting a lot of bookings against us for fairly soft challenges.
Worth noting that they haven't looked anywhere near as dangerous as they looked against Sheff U. I hope I don't regret saying that.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Over the years with Taylor he has been great at stopping the byline ball but less good stopping the winger cutting onto his left a la Benson.
Assuming that was the goal today but haven’t seen it yet.

All the team look a yard slower than the Saudis ,it’s not physically it’s just their reaction timing .

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
That's all good & well & you may well be right but the way things are going we'll need to beat them or at least draw more of them because we ain't getting anything from the top sides, an odd draw here or there would make the must wins & not loses less pressurised.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:54 pmWorth remembering 4 of the first 5 games have come against teams likely to finish in the top 8 if not the top 6. Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
A lot can change - and it needs to - but at the moment we're looking like Norwich do/did when they're in the Prem. Keep the ball well but soft, small, score too few goals and concede too many too easily.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
For all his footballing intelligence Cork is ponderous and would be eaten alive by Newcastle's pace in midfield. If we had to change the centre the only viable option would be Gudmundsson, or playing Tresor deeper which I'm not sure he can do.
Ramsey's been anonymous. I'd consider Zaroury or Brun Larsen after midweek, or again, Tresor.
Not sure how we get back into this regardless but we need something. We're outran and outmuscled constantly, too slow and not nearly enough bite or physicality, just can't get play going nearly enough.
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
We’re going to have to beat the sides around if we’ve any chance of keeping pace because the sides above those are completely out of reach for us.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:50 pmThe key areas weren’t sorted.
My hope is that we can keep pace until January and then address the problem areas - central midfield and full backs, another striker and possibly another centre half.
That we appear quite so short in various areas, despite what we have spent and how many we have brought in, isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of the business we did over the summer.
It’s been a very hard start which we have to take into consideration but by God our midfield looks weak and lacking on the ball.
Luton on Tuesday is absolutely huge.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Don’t think it’s controversial at all, he’s struggling to figure out his best team that’s for certain and tactics wise who knows but against trippier and burn, 2 good defenders but not blessed with pace, 2 out and out wingers would of made more sense then Ramsey out wideNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:00 pmMy controversial take so far, is VK is struggling considerably more than I expected him to.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
I agree with you mate. The tactics appear to be wrong.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:53 pmNo controversy I am just really struggling with our tactics today.
Really not sure what VK is expecting from Trafford with the ball at his feet today. They are pressing our defence into mistakes so he is having to go long, but up top we literally have the three smallest players on the pitch.
I personally think Jay has got to come on just to give us an out ball
As that half went on, I start to think about the intensity of our training. Are the lads actually being put in pressured situations, or are they typically just knocking it about and scoring wonder goals. I don’t feel like there’s any grit or fight in us. We go one down, get hurried on the ball and then start making daft fouls and picking up bookings.
Amdouni playing up front is a waste of a position in a game like this, he likes to make that last minute run or linger around the edge of the box. We need a striker and it’s become ever more apparent whilst Foster has been out.
I’m hoping for a turn around second half but not holding my breath.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
I just don't understand how he seemingly thinks we can pass our way through sides as easily as we did last season. I was enthusiastic in the summer, and I still am. But like you I didn't expect us to struggle quite as much as we are doing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:00 pmMy controversial take so far, is VK is struggling considerably more than I expected him to.

A game's never over at 1-0, even against another top PL side, away from home. This was never going to be anything other than a very difficult game today.

Lots of little wide men but very few, if any, players who will push and shove to organise and demand discipline.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Too many small, light-weight, naive players throughout the team. Trafford has made some good saves but his distribution is poor to say the least, backfour doing ok but no protection, Berge playing well but Cullen and Brownhill being overrun, Ramsey totally naive to lose the ball for their goal, Kolo and Amdouni powder puff against strong PL defenders. Need changes at half time.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Luton might be must win but this team is less suited to getting a result at Kenilworth Road than the one we had last season. We’re a pretty team, we don’t have fighters and I worry for how the atmosphere there would affect a young side.
Newcastle corner.
Newcastle corner.
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
The bench is full of the same sort of players as the ones on the pitch.
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Steep learning curve for Ramsey, he is showing his inexperience.
Got away with losing the ball in his own half a few times last week despite having a good game overall cos man utd were too poor to capitalise on it, you’re usually going to get punished at this level.
It’s hard cos he looks like he’s going to be a gud’un and you don’t want him to lose the positivity/creativity from his game but he needs to learn quickly when and where to take risks.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
If you have to kick it long you need someone who can hold the ball up. JRod is the only one who has the strength and height to give them problems. Cork might be a good sub with his experience. He can calm it down and move people around where they should be. Young players learn by playing with experienced ones talking them through games.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Seriously think we miss Ekdal's size & physicality and Muric's passing out (although Trafford's made a few good saves today including 1 stunner).
Tella had pace like Koleosho but was a bit stronger and with a sharp finish, felt the asking prace was excessive at the time but I'm now wishing we'd got him over Ramsey.
Also on this, we also miss Barnes' physicality up front. Amdouni isn't working as a central striker.
We look like what we mostly are- a team of youngsters who can be bullied and a few lads like Brownhill/Cullen who never quite cut it at this level previously.

Playing out from the back is a real skill and today watching Brighton v Villa they were caught out on a number of ocassions, all nearly leading to goals. Work for the coaches
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
He's 6ft1, tall but not necessarily tall for a centre half in the Premier League. He never stands out to me as being imposing.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Cork for Ramsey and pushing Koleosho to the left/Berge to the right as a narrow right sided midfielder might be helpful. Granted, it won’t help us claw back the deficit…
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
Some daft tackles going in. We've lost it since they've scored.
