I still believe
I think our back 5 are looking solid.
Cullen Brownhill Berge is a solid midfield.
Koleosho and Odobert look like superb talents
We just Foster to lead the line. We massively lack any cover up top. Goals don't look likely atm, but they will come.
I think we have 2 of best centre backs in the country right now. They are so good.
It'll be fine.

Re: I still believe
Before a ball was kicked bookies priced it up as Newcastle 2/7 and Burnley 8/1. Yet Burnley fans seem gutted that we lost the match 2-0. We managed 2 shots on target which was 1 more than Wolves who got lucky this afternoon. It’s PL football and surprise results are part of the package.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:14 pmWith you on this.

I’m yet to be convinced that Cullen, Brownhill and Berge is a solid midfield (at this level).
Every relegation we have had, our Achilles heel has been midfield. Massengo, a new signing in January, Cork, whatever or whoever it is, it must improve.

Still believe in the quality of this squad, just praying that they have their own belief now going into a run of games that they simply have to pick up points in.
Foster being back is massive - we desperately need something prepared for January in that position when he goes to AFCON. Missed him terribly today IMO.

Fully agree, I've been thinking of Dyche's first season with us in the top flight when we had Jones and Marney, when we clearly needed better quality. We are too weak in the middle of the park at the moment, fingers crossed we improveDCWat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:24 pmI still believe, I’m still confident that we can and probably will stay up.

Re: I still believe
I think the future is bright but the defence is not good enough and central midfield not good enough ...both goalkeepers are a step down from most Premiership goalkeepers we have some nice wingers but we can only pick 2 of them and we are short of a striker
However this is the best collection players for 50 years ...
I would suggest enjoy the good moments we have this season and we should do better in the championship next year
I would say about 6 of the players are going to be really good players in about 2 years time
I like what we are doing and I am not giving up....but realistically I cannot see a third team after Luton and Sheff U who we can finish above

I get this season is going to be a struggle and out start isn’t good but come on we have played a few of the divisions top teams that we were never likely to get anything against. Let’s see where we are in November before making comments like this.

We conceded a penalty and a wonder goal. If foster had played we could well have scored at the start. I'm confident we would have gotten something out of the United game as well with him.
Last couple of weeks have shown we're in trouble without him, he's the only person we don't have cover for

Re: I still believe
Never doubted.
I said before the season that I thought we'd finish midtable. I still do.
I didn't believe then, or now, that we'd finish above City, Villa, Spurs, Man U or Newcastle.
We're still making mistakes, it's to be expected. I was never happy with yesterday's starting XI, we didn't look strong enough to cause them problems in attack, so going behind was always going to be a problem. They're obviously a good side, and on form playing with confidence.
Luton is a big game now, I don't think their result at Everton affects our game plan, and so long as we don't give away cheap free kicks, it should be straightforward.
We have to set up to attack, it's our best form of defence.

Re: I still believe
I wasn't worried about winning our first few games and don't really expect anything drastic to change until the end of October, beginning of November, we have plenty of talent in the squad but it's obvious they are not yet gelled.
We have had worse starts than this before and fully expect it to turn around before Christmas

I think some fans are really huffing ‘copium’.
You can keep telling yourself that we’re gonna get better but as it stands there’s no tangible data that shows it.
10 minute spells here and there mean absolutely nothing.
Things have got to change quickly because it’s getting a bit like Groundhog Day.
Yes we’ve played some good teams and yes we should have gotten three points at Forest but we didn’t and we’re still expected to get a result off a top 8 side from time to time.
Under 0 metrics did we perform well against Newcastle. We got thumped.

We also absolutely had to rebuild due to losing a lot of players and accepting that we were going in a different direction.
For some bizarre reason this year we’ve decided to build another squad, bench players for others that are no better and just magically expect that results are going to change?
The PL is no place at all to experiment and write games off. It’s just a non starter.
Kompany didn’t want to play Chaz but had his hand forced, Brownhill the same.. how long till Anass is starting regularly again and then Benson is getting more minutes?
Then we can finally agree that we’ve thrown games away to start the season.

For some bizarre reason this year we’ve decided to build another squad................is that serious ?
The fact you believe we have the god given right to just turn up and automatically compete with the sides we've played is mental, the one side we could be expected to compete with we did. Having read what you've put I'm wondering when you will go full 'Kompany out' on us ?

We have spent over 100m this summer (top ten spend in world football I believe). If we can’t compete against the teams towards the top end of the table after spending that not sure we ever will.

Yes it is serious, we have had a massive turnover of players and I can’t figure out why - especially when so many of them play in the same position!
What’s this nonsense about a god given right to compete?
If you want to stay in this division you absolutely have to pickup the odd result at home against a team in the top 6/7/8.
I absolutely expect any team in this division to give the top teams a hard game at home even if they do ultimately lose - every now and then picking up a result. Certainly not rolling over and giving them a relatively easy game.
The next 5 fixtures are absolutely crucial, starting with Luton.. we simply cannot lose.

We will pick up the odd result against top teams - also, define 'top team'
If it's so easy why didn't we beat Blackpool, Stoke, Luton etc etc at home last season in a much weaker league when we were the absolute powerhouse in that division ? If it's so easy why haven't every promoted team beaten top teams yet ?
You can 'expect' all you want but it shows a complete lack of understanding of the surroundings we are competing in especially at this time on our journey.

We've spent nearly 100 million on how many players ?
The teams we've played spend that on 1-2
The money we spent this summer after annihilating the championship, we should at least be competitive against teams in this league

We didn’t beat them because they didn’t roll over and make it easy for us? The exact thing that I’m wanting us to do right now?Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:49 pmSo you know why Taylor and Brownhill didn't play ? (clearly you don't)
No idea what you’re on about for your last paragraph in all honesty.
The simple fact of the matter is we have been heavily thumped in all but one game and performances simply have to improve otherwise we will be relegated (that’s fine, I’m not normally arsed) BUT we have spent an awful lot of money and speculated on young players hoping that we can develop them and turn them into prized assets…
That’s good and all but it won’t happen if we continue to perform poorly.

I'm seeing realities not excuses, had you paid attention to Southampton last season you would have foreseen our start. I'll stick with the guy who manages in the PL who actually knows what he is doingNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:50 pmYou’re just finding excuses.
